Anyone in FFXI have a summoner?

I was just wondering, i've been on many boards, and they are always continuely argueing about wether to have white mage or black mage as a sub job for summoner.

Well, you guys seem to know your games pretty well and i was wondering what your opinion was on it. I plan on being a summoner and am a black mage currently, but only lvl 10. So if white mage is honestly better (hope not because my EQ character was a cleric) i'll switch.

Anyway, any opinions would be nice :) Thanks

Go with whatever you want is what I say, the norm is white mage, but black mage will work also.
The reason most go with white mage is because summoners attack via their avatar, and sit back and heal etc.
Red mage would work also...

The Reason EQ Classes are unbalanced is because everyone goes by a Cookie Cutter Mold, breaking away from this is one of the methods of balance between a Class (Like in Diablo, a Barbarian that only uses Warcries is just as effective as a Cookie Cutter Zoomancer), dont go with "well most choose this class because of this and this" try new things, different play techniques, dont restrict yourself to one person's method of thinking by being a Cookie Cutter Character

Me, I'd say sub with Red Mage, and get best of both worlds! ^^ Thenagain, I have a real soft spot for Red Mages, hehe. ^^;

I'd have to agree, it's more fun to choose whatever subjob appeals to you and be (perhaps) something different for once.

I personally am one quest item away from being an 18 White Mage/7 Thief, and if it doesn't work out? I'll change it. Because if I see one more White Mage/Black Mage ( their motto: "I chose this sub because everybody said to") I will hurl.

Hehe im going for Monk/Ninja, dont think it will work but it will be a monk using two clubs, havent seen ANY people doing this so i might stand out :D
