It's been awhile, eh? Yeah. Anywho, I was just wondering if I might use "The Warriors from Baldaris"'s history and such for my games? I don't think you would mind, but I thought it'd be best to ask anyway.

Also, if anyone's interested in starting something up again, I'm finally game.

I was thinking of starting up another rpt, maybe even one with actual dice rolling since I found a program that will allow secure rolling for forum rpgs.
Probably would be set in "Age of Frost" or "Tainted Visage", the second being a few stories with many of the elements I twisted to add to the original Baldaris story (races and such).

Yep, thats fine with me Gondi, don't know how many of the others will check in, but you have my approval anyway. Hopefully we didnt have too much of a changing history in there haha. But i think there were some aspects that had a bit of alteration. I think the later things were the most widely accepted since we didn't really get into too much history until about half-way through i believe.

I may have some time coming up soon and may be able to join up again. But only time will tell. So you can put me down as a maybe. I sure enjoy these during those dismal summers :)

Heh, wierd, I was actually thinking of posting somewhat of a revivial thread these past few days. Anyway, I'm game to try and get back into something (and no suicidal drow gone good this time, I despise that stuff looking back on it), since summer approaches and enrolling in classes during that time of the year is a no-no in my book. I'm willing to give just about anything a shot, and the dice-rolling thing sounds like fun, the added interactivity (bleh, I'm sleepy, I don't care if it's a word or not) would bring a new element to the story.

Well it's been too long since we did one of these. Let's see if there is enough interest for a game to be started up.
If interested, post which setting and system you would prefer to be set up. I am willing to play the role of a Game master with no vested interest in the outcome of the game (I would not play any major characters). If I missed an option you would like, please post that too.

Settings:
High fantasy (everything from Lord of the Rings style to superheros)
Low Fantasy (Fantasy with very little or no magic/fantastic creatures)
Sci-Fi (Near future to Star Wars level)
Historic-Modern (Maybe something like Rise of Nations where each player rules a country)

Systems:
Freeform (Few "hard" rules. Will require good judgement to prevent godmoding)
Structured (Hard rules (with or without dice servers) and/or non-participating game master oversight to keep everything sane.)

Edited: Forgot something -_-

I'd be happy to jump in on a new one of your games $tormin, though I don't think I'd know how to do a Rise of Nations sort of thing.

Not a big fan of the structured idea. I've never really liked the whole "You've got a good character, but you only rolled a 1, so you take damage" sort of thing. Plus for me this is more of a collaborative novel. Warriors from Baldaris was basically a story that we all wrote together, and that was fun.
When people create together it makes it fun for the participants. The rules were pretty much guidelines for how to contribute to the story and make it understandable to everyone else.
To add restrictions like "dice" to it or saying you can't do that because your characters "stats" aren't high enough is somewhat sac-religious to me. So if its more of a "free-form" I'm all for it, but I doubt I'll actually play a "structured" style. I'd probably stop in and judge later whether i wanted to participate, but for now, that's my opinions.
Hopefully we can get something fun together for the summer.

yeah i agree with rookie even though i didnt contribute as much or as frequently as i would have liked it was still real fun

How many people here are familiar with the game Rise of Legends or the web comic Girl Genius? I was thinking of setting a game in a similar "heavy metal fantasy" steampunk world.
Would a semi-freeform game system of distributed points (such as Tacharis and Low Fantasy RPT) set in such a world be of any interest?

Btw, I noticed that only people who have participated in previous games have been speaking. Anyone the least bit interested in joining any future games should feel free to join in this discussion.

Haven't heard of Girl Genius, but Rise of Legends sounds vaguely familiar.

The Tacharis and Low Fantasy point distribution worked out all right. It gave each player just enough restriction to prevent them from being super-invincible characters. Just maybe have a little more ability per "skill" or more points to distribute? That way we wouldn't have to concern ourselves with "well you did this, so you should get more points now." makes it easier to have more solid characters.
I could get behind another system similar to Tacharis and Low-Fantasy. A couple of things to work out, but it could work.

Not familiar with either of those, but that's a simple Wikipedia search away I'm sure.

I dont know Rise of Legends but Girl Genius is a steampunk universe, 17th or 18th era with zeppelin, mechanical clockwork spider, steam engine, etc...

Rise of legends is pretty much the same thing.

Here is the intro to the game (http://youtube.com/watch?v=dRh1niAmrkc)

Sorry, someone is going to have to explain it to me, i can't do Youtube because of my internet connection or any sort of video. Could someone tell me what it is or give me a link to an explanation?

Basically? Two nations, one that uses Steam tech and another that use magic and fantastic animals at war.

Pretty much yeah. Robots that are steam or clockwork powered, zeppelins etc. Think Sci-Fi from a 18th century perspective.
