Yes, it IS a manga, The manga is somewhere between the Anime and the actual game, the characters are drawn in a more mature style, but withhold their original looks (ie; dont look like something a cat coughed up) and the story itself takes a side path of what happens in the game.
Dont worry, Laharl isnt going to wake up in some garbage pit with an angel holding a rocket launcher and get attacked immediatly by a dragon and cut it down in half a second, Etna wakes his lazy butt up, and from there the anime makes references to the game itself "Huh, thought we forgot something Hahaha" Laharl's worthless entorage of Vassels are still sticking around since his father's, in no way recent, death, but i suppose the plot makes neccesary deviations because...well you dont have 20-30 minutes to fight out a battle, so instead of having to fight through Mid-Boss' house to score some cash, he will be holding a "Take over the Throne" show in the middle of friggin nowhere, and get promptly beat to a pulp after some exchanges.
I would have to say it is just about, and maybe more funny than Disgaea was, i only lament that the appearance of the Prism Rangers didn't happen, but to be fair, a set of possible challangers just as entertaining showed up.
