View Full Version : GU Gen 2 is a Boy.

After the comic was done today, we had to rush off for an appointment with the sonographer. The short and simple of it is that it's a boy. Please hold your congratulations, we went through all that when the baby was first announced. Where I appreciate your intentions, we already know how you feel. To answer some of the other innevitable questions:
No, there will not be a lot of sonograph pictures posted showing the kids doodle. He's entitled to his privacy.
No, we have not picked a name yet. Suggestions of "Ted" have already been dismissed. Real life and the comic has to have a points of disconnect. This is one of them. (Name suggestions will be deleted.)
Yes, we will eventually have a baby registry and will probably have a virtual baby shower. To include all of those who are interested. No, we haven't set a date for that yet.
Finally... please don't offer unsolicited pregnancy advice. We're pretty smart, educated people. There's very little that could be suggested that we or our immediate families do not know or have not already discussed. (Unsolicited advice will be deleted.)
Thanks again for hopes, wishes, and initial kind words. I promise to keep you all updated.

Did the two of you feel different after the sonograph?
Woody

Not really no.

I am happier, but after every appointment when I get to hear the heartbeat or just get to talk about the baby, I feel that way.. So different... No.
Happy, yes!

Neato :)
So has he started the whole kicking thing yet?

Oh yeah. We're raising a NFL kicker or a soccer star or something.

LoL I guess the word different wasn't the best one to use. To me it was like more real and definitely I was happier.

I can only imagine what it will be like when you two get to start baby proofing your house. Oh good times ahead!

Twyll: I know what you mean, but it's always seemed very very real. Getting to see anatomy on a TV is pretty cool. I do feel more connected in a way, even though the little face I see on the screen is only 2D.

Has the kid begun scratching his heel on your ribs or doing summersaults yet? These are just a few of the accusations I've heard from my mother... :)
My favorite one though was supposedly how I used to drag my heel from one end of her belly to the other. It looked like something out of Alien was ready to pop out. LOL!

That's a really good sonogram. I know everytime we had one done with Ian, we were getting the top of his head or he wanted to moon us.

It was a veritable ballet the sonographer played with GU Jr. getting him to move, turn, etc. Though this kid may be born with a dent in his head now.

She was for sure a talented sonogropher. I got up once to use the restroom and let him shift around so we could get better pictures of the heart. He seemed to be pretty cooperative, but getting smooshed on didn't feel good to me, I can imagine as the lil' one in there getting his nice cushy swimming pool invaded wasn't fun.

That's how every single one of my ultrasounds were with Brendan! When he got bigger he got to the point where he was actually hitting or kicking back at the sonographer.
Your little one has such an adorable profile. :)

the person doing the sonograph actually told you ? or was there a picture that clearly showed it was a boy ?.
up here they refuse to tell people, unless its plainly obvius and even then its a "well i cant say for sure, but you can see that it is most likely a boy.. but i didnt tell you" sort of thing.
seen pictures these days now of 3d sonographs, they look really cool, you can see a fairly well detailed image of the full face and body of the baby. my GF wants to get that done when she goes in a couple more months.

It was obvious in the sonogram.
Our medical insurance doesn't cover 3D sonograms.

Ah...Yeah, they don't tell you up here, makes sense though. Right up into my sister was born everyone insisted she was a boy.

When we had our sonogram for Andrew, I was purposely looking for the package. I wanted to know. Then it flashed on the screen, and I said, "is that what I think it is?" and she says "yeah, looks like it. Don't bet the farm, though." Whatever. I was doing a victory dance.

Hee!
He was not shy in showing the sonographer proudly that he was indeed packing. I think she thought it was kind of funny, because in our print outs we have about 6 pictures of it in various angles.
Hello to your future porn career, kiddo.

Wow, that's one of the best sonograms I've ever seen (though admittedly, I haven't seen THAT many *grin*). Still, very nice & very exciting! :D

Here's one other (http://www.flickr.com/photos/pickleberries/741618793/).
Good strong chin!
... and while shortly after she snapped this one, she thought he waved, Woody and I both think he flipped us the bird.

a good friend had her first child 6 months ago, but while in the womb, she and her husband played games with the baby. they'd tap a spot on her belly and the baby would punch/kick back. i thought it was a joke until i played myself! it's amazing really. i'm looking forward to it =)

*chuckles* Cute kid. When I had one done of my son, he decided to plant his butt into full view, so we pretty much knew he was a boyo. My daughter was fairly shy of showing until the lab tech wiggled around just right and said, "Looks like you have a girl. You told me your son showed his "bits" right off the bat."
*grins* Was fun to watch my son blush right to his ears when he heard that =). I will say this much, getting to know which gender for both kids made it a heck of a lot easier to buy gear for them. Especially cloths...

lol, at least your doc didn't do a sonogram and say "oh shit..." i went through about a million horrifying scenario's only to find out that our girl was acutally 2. we were greatly relieved and then immediately set into another group of horrifying scenarios. i now own a shotgun and have a bat by my front door...
seriously though, grats to you guys, thanks for sharing such an intimate and exciting part of your lives with us!

The 3d version costs around $250. My wife is angling to get it done this time around (she's 9 weeks preg right now).
However, you have to have it done before 20 weeks or there isn't enough fluid/free space to get a good picture, so you wouldn't qualify for it anyway.

I had every opportunity to have one, but I'd much rather spend that $250 on baby clothing, toys or bedding, new maternity clothing or ... pretty much anything else.
Everyone has their priorities... I'll know what the little bugger looks like in 4 months... that's good enough for me!
