Ok, I bought a graphics card over the weekend. Its a Radeon 7000 64MB PCI DDR. It worked when I first put it in (It installed through windows as soon as I logged on safe mode). So I'm happy and just booting it up, till I come across a problem. I opened DAoC and the buildings, characters, land, etc was all red and green. So I don't know what happened and I was kinda made, since I spent $60 on this. So I took the CD I got with it, and installed it. Restarted it. BAM! New problem. Everything is in colored lines and such when I start my computer up, which means I can't log into windows when that happens. I had to take it out to use my internet and stuff again. Can someone please help me??? Here's a Link to It on Newegg.com:

PS: I got this at a store in my local mall, not off newegg.com. And I'm asking for help to fix the color stuff and the messed up graphics :D

Download the latest drivers from ATI (http://www.ati.com) - Install them, then also make sure your using the latest version of Direct X.

Then try DAOC again.

Hmm, open pc and press hard on the card as it seems like it's not fully in the slot.

i'd test making sure the card is properly seated first too, then make sure i have all the latest drivers, but considering the nature of the problem.. i'd say there's a fair chance that the card itself is broken and you need to go exchange it.

Problem is I can't download the drivers because when I put the Radeon 7000 in my pc, it shows the messed up graphics, and I can't log on windows then...

EDIT: Edited the first message to fully explain the problem (Computer starting up with messed up graphics and not being able to log on windows)

you should get a better card anyway, I've got a Radeon 9800 and it seems to be good enough for any game these days. Although there was the melting incident but that was the 9700 and worked out to my benefit really.

Can you download the drivers when the card is not installed? The download should work fine, with or without the card installed.

Barring that, do you have Windows XP? If so, you can roll back to an earlier, stable build and try the install again.

Your graphics problem with DAoC sounds like either a driver problem (including DX) or that the card, itself, wasn't seated properly on the board and worked loose after the first use. It's scary, but snapping the card firmly into the slot is the only way to get it to work properly.

It's a pain but when you can not use your card's native driver, you should be able to use the old 640x480 driver that comes with windows, simply go into safe mode and uninstall the old driver and then use the windows standard VGA driver to download the newer ATI driver. I do this all the time when building new computer systems.

I can't run safemode while the card's in there or install the drivers. I'm gonna mess with it after school, hopefully I can get it working... Any more info would be greatly appreciated :D

Ahh what I meant to say was to use safe mode to uninstall the ATI driver and switch to the standard VGA driver (prolly in 16 color mode and 640x480) then boot back up into standard mode to download and install the new ATI driver.

If you are still having problems, something may have happened to the card. Are you able to install your old vid card back in and then try to uninstall the ATI vid drivers?

Okdokie, I got safemode running with the graphics card inside. Problem is: Green and Pink Lines everywhere! The display is decent, but not normal. When I move my mouse the lines flicker. I'm really confused on what to do, and I can't install the drivers for some stupid reason. Help!

I bought a Radeon 9800 once, and was having problems similar to yours... messed up graphics in my games, and some lines on my Windows desktop. I finally gave up and took it back to the store... unfortunately, they didn't have any other 9800s in at the time, so I settled for a 9600, and had no problems with it.

Interestingly, it changed a couple of my desktop icons for some odd reason... my Quicktime player had an Internet Explorer icon all of a sudden. I can't really explain that one...

If the place you bought it from has a return policy, maybe you could take it back and get another one. If you have the same problem, then at least you'll know it wasn't the video card that was the problem.

I gave up on it. I'm guessing its the way the yellowish edges are. My PCI slots in my computer have one lil gap in the slot. The card I have has 2. I'm guessing this was the problem all along...Hopefully I can return it :(

Some cards are supposed to have more slots than certain PCI or AGP slots have, so that they can fit in more than one type of slot, so I don't think that's your problem.

Now I was told something about the refresh rate just now. Its on 75mhz. What should it be on?

Change it to 60mhz, it will run better.

That should depend on what your monitor can handle and at what resolution, the higher the resolution the lower the refresh rate (usually on older monitors) Hopefully Windows recognized your monitor and what refresh rate/resolution it can handle.

well in that case, put your old card in, log into windows, download the newest drivers, uninstall your current ones (dont reboot), install your new ones (or unpack them somewhere), shutdown, install the new card, startup..

after windows finishes loading it should work.

now, 99% of all cards work fine (albeit uglyly (what a word)) with windows builtin vga-standard drivers. so you SHOULD be able to get into windows with your new card, even if you dont have the right drivers.

if you cannot boot to windows with the new card, it's either not seated properly or broken. simple as that.

Is your bootup screen garbled as well (colored blocks, strange lines, etc.)?
I think the card's meory is busted. Return it for a new card.

Honestly, couldn't you get a better card for 60$ than a Radeon 7000? That one's not so much better than your onboard graphic chip...
