It seems that anytime someone in my family uses the phone I either experience extreme lag or a disconnect. This has been happening ever since I got a new wireless-g card from Linksys. Is there any way to change maybe the frequency, or channel, or something like that, so that I don't experience a disconnect? The card is much faster than my old wireless-b card, but if its not connected it doesn't matter how fast it is.

I am going to take a guess and say that you have a 2.4 Ghz wireless phone. Unfortunatly that means that the wlan-g card and the phone are useing the same frequency. And with the way wlan operates it will always disconnect.
You could try setting the wireless router and card to the either end of the channels like 1 or 11 but even then it probably will not work. Another route to try would be moving the phone and base to another room or floor.
Finally if either of those sugestions do not work you might have to replace either your wireless g with a wireless-a network (expensive) or get a 5.8 Ghz cordless phone ( Much cheaper). Hope that helps

Use the Linksys software installer.

When I setup my wireless network, I was having disconnection problems and also thought it had to do with my 2.4 GHz phone. I'd set everything up myself, being the tech savvy person that I am, so I was twiddling all kinds of stuff trying to get the periodic disconnections to stop.

What finally fixed it? I hit the hard resets and broke down and installed the Linksys stuff the "real" way, using the disks they included. I don't know what it did that I didn't do, but everything works now. I've heard that from other people, too: when messing with Linksys stuff, you might as well run their installer, even if you're pretty sure you know what you're doing.

I had a Panasonic 2.8Ghz cordless phone that interfered with my 802.11b network. If I had the handset on right next to my computer, I couldn't get any packets through the wireless network. With the phone and computers in different rooms, things tended to work fine.

Many people will change the channel on the wireless to 1 or 11, just to avoid interference with other base stations or wireless devices on channel 6. You could also drop the bitrate on the wireless network - the slower it is, the more it can tolerate interference.

I switched to a Motorola 5.8Ghz phone, just to avoid interference with my wireless network and baby monitor. It seems that I didn't pick the best phone, it still broadcasts something on the 2.4Ghz band - I can tell because the baby monitor picks it up. However, I don't seem to have much interference with the wireless network anymore.
