Ok heres what I've got..

AMD 64 Socket 939 3000
Asus A8V Deluxe Motherboard
2 x 512 corsair PC 3200 DDR ram
Antec 430W powersupply

Problem -

After doing my upgrade I am getting intermittenet CPU not Detected errors. Most times the PC will boot with no problems at all and it runs smooth and stable even after being on for great lengths of time and using some very intense programs. When its running its solid as a rock. However every now and then it powers up, the monitor does not power on, and the keyboard lights do not flash, and the audio POST message is, "System failed CPU check. System failed CPU check". Usually the remedy to this is powering off and back on a couple times. I've also found that when it boots after the first failiure it ignores all mouse input.

What is causing this? Is it my CPU? Mobo? Power supply? Power button?

The first thing you should check if the processor sits firmly in its socket. I doubt that's the problem, but it can't hurt to check.
Maybe ASUS has a BIOS update for your board. Please compare the BIOS version from the download page (http://www.asus.com/support/download/item.aspx?ModelName=A8V%20Deluxe) against the version the post screen shows. Maybe the board needs some finetuning to initialize the CPU on startup. A BIOS update might help with that.

edit: I just read the text files to the bios updates and version 1009 says "fixed problem with CPU initializing sequence"

Sweet! I'll download that when I get home and give it a shot. I really hope thats what it is. Seems to make sense.

I had my wife check the bios at home. Its VERY back rev. 1003. No wonder I'm running into problems, the CPU I have wasn't fully supported until 1009. Going to have to flash that tonight and see if that fixes everything. I have a feeling it will.

Just be careful when flashing a bios. If you do something wrong you end up with a board that won't run at all and needs to be sent back to the factory to get fixed. And if something happens, like losing power, during the write process, you are SOL. Not that either of these are likely to happen, just be aware.

Not in this case. This ASUS motherboard has a recovery method to restore a BIOS if the flashing fails (as do many modern motherboards). Some motherboards even have dual BIOSes for this very purpose. In the A8V's case, the system will look for a BIOS image on the floppy or CD if the BIOS checksum is bad. My MSI motherboard has similar capabilities.

If it still happens, I had the same problem with a friends system after we built it. It turned out that the 3.3v output on the power supply was to low to initialize the CPU sometimes. Got a good PS and never seen it again.

I didn't get a chance to do the flash last night, but I hope its not the power supply, it was a fairly expensive Antec.
