Alright, I'm a tiny bit knowledgable about sound systems and how speakers work (comes from studying music in school) but I have no idea what is causing this.

My speakers are "hitting" about three times a second. Sounds like a muffled drum tap and continues right up until power is no longer supplied to them. They're brand spanking new speakers, only had them for a few months.

My supposition: Perhaps the magentics in the speakers are being interefered with somehow by my moniter, causing this "hit." But it remains when I turn off my moniter and I've never had this problem with any other speakers. The subwoofer doesn't seem to be hitting the same way though, so I have no idea what it could be.

As a side note, I'm using my motherboards built on sound card and i'm spliting the output to the speakers into a headset with a mic so I can use Teamspeak. I haven't tried disconnecting the headset yet, though this problem did not manifest until mid February.

I've never blown a speaker set out either, maybe that's what this is? If that is the case I have some heads to pound since I can't stand listening to extremely loud music and I don't turn anything up above the smallest settings usually.

Any comments and/or ideas on this?

Does it sound like a part inside the speaker is physically hitting something it shouldn't be? If so, then I doubt it's monitor interference. Sounds to me like something inside the speakers is broken.

If it's both speakers, then I think it's unlikely that both would break unless they were turned up really loud... unless they're cheap speakers.

Sorry, but I can't really be any more help... I'm not very knowledgeable about speakers, I just understand the basics of how they work, that's all. *shrug*

It sounds like feedback you'd get from tapping on a mic over and over again. Both speakers are doing it and they weren't cheap.

Thanks Nulien.

Ah... well, in that case, I don't have a clue. :(

Sound like it could be some sort of radio signal interferrng with the magnitic systems of your speakers. Do you have any equipment in the near vicinity of your speakers that radiates radiosignals, (Mobilephones, cordless mouse/keyboard, etc.) or strong magnetic fields (an older CRT monitor, Power Suply, etc.)?
Those would be my first guess as a cause for you problem..

Figured it out on Monday.

The Sub is NOT magnetically sheilded. I also had the sub up on the top part of my desk next to a game cube next to a stero speaker.

Upplug the sub for about an hour and hook it back up under the desk and the problem is solved.

The lesson learned is thus: Always read ALL the data about your new equipment instead of assuming. (most speakers and devices that use magnets are sheilded from letting out and in interference).

After a power serge the annoying tap is back! Grr... this time it's replacement possibility instead of just waiting for it to go away.

The thing is I've got my whole computer hooked up through a pretty hefty surge protector and yet this still happened. Grr...
