That was great, just sent that to a few of my friends who just bought Ibooks because "PCs are too unreliable"

As a friend once told me, macs are just expensive doorstops.

Hah, the guy is lying. That or someone deliberately screwed his system. Seriously, I'm using an *old* iBook at college, running OS X, which it really isn't fit for, and it hasn't crashed once, despite all the games, surfing, etc. that I do on it.
I'll grant that PCs have a wider selection of games, and that is why I choose a PC for gaming, but for anything else, I would use my Mac.

Ah, the memories of youth.
I had that at school, but at home it was Atari Asteroids/Missle Command/Raiders of the Lost Ark, or Commador64 Kung Fu Master/Super Huey II.

the reason that MAC users defend MACs so readily is because they are in denial over the fact that their $2000 piece of crap is a piece of crap so they tell everyone that its not. lol.
but those were the days when ur greatest worries were wiether or not u should go hunting for food or wait till u got to the next fort. sigh..........
now its weither to get the "Holy Battle Armor of Super Duper Slaying" for its anti-disbufferment spells or the "Evil Killing Armor That The Devil Himself Once Wore And Thats Why Its Red" for its awsome bad guy spanking abbilities. o well

stuman89, thats great.
My dad loves Macs, I mean, its embarassing, when I'm at his house, and I stay downstairs playing on my laptop (pc games wooh), I go upstairs to make a midnight snack, and I find him playing around with his laptop (OSX). Its funny, because I remember when I was little, everytime I asked him why he used macs, and none of my games would work with it, is because he said Windows always crashes. A few years ago I asked him why he didn't use windows again, but this time I pointed out that his mac froze about twice a day. He told me that this was different, and that it hadn't frozen in the last year. I subtly told him that it had been broken for at least 9 months. This is where he told me to stop bothering my old man, and to go to bed.

Windows XP is a large step forward in stability. It crashes much less than any other Windows, about as much as System 9 did for Mac, which is very little. OS X is still more stable, though.
And, please, let's not do the blind bashing thing, let's give some solid reasons, so it doesn't turn into a flame war or anything.

Ah, we are talking about apples right?I prefer Red Delicoius, myself -- unless we're talking about apple pie. Yum!
Speaking of apple pies, someone told me about these (http://www.thpc.net) apple pies last Christmas season. Talk about YUM!!! (Unfortunately, though, they only told me about the site instead of sending me one. :()

Speaking of apple pies, where did the phrase "American as apple pie" come from? I'm pretty sure the French and the English had apple pies long before the first colonies.
Ciarin
12-03-2003, 02:19 PM
Because apple pie is a typical dessert that Americans have.
The English's typical dessert is probably something like bread pudding or crumpets or something.
Frenchy's dessert has a wide range though...creme brulee, or eclairs, or something.
Besides it fits since our colonies were made of a bunch of europeans. And I don't think American Indians ate apple pie.

The History of Apple Pie
The origin of most customs and foods in America can be traced to Europe. The same is true of American Apple Pie. Not to upset the founding fathers, but apple pie, is not really American at all. Fourteenth century English often enjoyed meat pies. Fruits such as apples were substituted in traditional meat pies and served as dessert. Apple pie was a favorite dessert during the reign of Elizabeth I. During the mid 1600s, Oliver Cromwell banned many pleasures throughout the Commonwealth, including pie. Fortunately under the reign of King Charles II in 1660 England enjoyed a more pleasant lifestyle, as the King allowed them many pleasures previously denied by Cromwell, among them pie. Although the old style English cuisine is hardly considered gourmet, we are grateful that the colonials passed on the English "American" apple pie, and we are thankful for the thousands of bakers who have helped perfect the apple pie throughout time.
Heh, apple pie was once banned in England? If they tried anything of the sort today, there would be a revolt! :)

This must be old. I work as an engineer at a local nbc aff. and Avid is really pushing for all their customers to upgrade to their PC based editors on win2000.
We went with the upgrade (to PC) and it has worked out very nicely. We now have a storage server so all the Avids can share their video/audio/effect files. So you can login and start where you left off on any Avid.
I do like macintosh's operating system. I think if mac released OSX for x86 it would give Microsoft some good competition.

Hay guys, here's a couple of links that you might want to check out. I know this is a mac bashing session, and my favorite wat to bash mac's is via a 36 inch gravity calibration. I just thought some of you might get a kick out of these links. Its from a krew called Three Dead Trolls in a Baggie. Their site is www.deadtroll.com

I used to have mac when I was in college 1993-94 because that was what was supported on campus. After I left school there was little or no support for my computer. No softeware, or a small out of date selection. The only game I found was WarCraft (thank you Blizzard) Now I am a PC user, but I believe that Mac was very integral part of where our computer technology is today. Here is a little story that I saw on the internet, that fits this topic and this time of year when "It's a Wonderful Life" starts showing on TV. It may not be completely accurate, but it does make some valid points.

Pies were the most efficient way of carting food around back in the 1600's (and before?), when in the summertime there really wasn't a great way of preserving food, beyond salting meats or drying and sugaring fruits (and not everybody could afford salt or sugar). You could garuntee that a meat pie that was insulated with a crust wouldn't go bad for at least a day. Everything used to be baked into a kind of pie. Great travelling food.

I have to say that I will almost always choose a mac over a PC for graphical editing programs. An iMac with 128 mb of ram and a 500 mhz processor and I can have 18+ layers of text, graphics, you name it, and it runs smooth as silk. However, on my 1 gHz laptop with 1024 MB of RAM, the second I drop that text cursor on to the photoshop document and start typing I've got two-three seconds of lag between every letter.
The one button mouse kills me though. I've never gotten used to it.
It does seem that Mac users are more sensitive to ridicule, probably because instead of fun being poked at the topic of mac use in general, their choice is often called directly into question.
Windows humor is funny, even to myself, an avid windows user (EQ won't run reliably on Linux :P ) I would say this thread has a lot of potential for locks/bans though.
*shrugs* All platforms have their uses. If they didn't they wouldn't be around anymore.
The fish hate swimming between the pixels in my old monochrome Apple IIc monitor though. (just kidding)

That's odd, FuzzyBear. I've had 20-30 layers, and never lag. Same amount of RAM, but it's a 2ghz processor. I also have one of my hard drives set as a scratch disk for it.
People that like Macs too much are amusing because anyone who likes anything too much can be irrational.

This guy clearly has used windows for a while and was recently "forced" to switch to a mac. I had to do that once. They take a little getting used to, but they're pretty ok.
One thing that I didn't like about using a mac was that the particular computer I got so I could take my work home with me . . . didn't have a floppy drive. That's right, just a CD-Rom . . . not even a burner . . . so I could do work at home, sure, I just couldn't take it back to work with me.
