Thought I'd throw a drawing up here that I've been working on.

This one is of my night elf, priest, Aysel. For the record, I hate cloth, fabric, clothes... and at this point I'm in the belief that they exist for the soul purpose of taunting me. The end of her skirt is not how I wanted it to look. After erasing and redrawing it so many times, I figured I had better just draw something and call it quits before I throw the picture in the trash. Also, apparently Aysel and the panda were not getting along and I ended up drawing the panda first and then Aysel on another page. My intention from the start was to have them together so when I finish inking and coloring they'll be on the same page. In this picture I've cropped the panda and pasted it with Aysel.

For those of you that don't know, Tati's artwork is officially GU ranked as: Awesome.

Very nice.... I love the panda and well just everything. Oh and the panda kinda reminds me of those robot bears in the old Battlestar Galatica for some odd reason. No huge resemblance maybe just the posture..... Ah well, very beautiful. :)

Aww Woody, you are always too kind to me!

Tuluz, unfortunately I've never seen battlestar galactica, but I'll ask my husband about that. I'm sure he's watched it. I'm really curious now... robot bears? hehe

Aysel ink (http://julirama.homestead.com/files/wow/aysel_ink.jpg)

Inking always shows me what I probly dont want to see while drawing. I can see now that her raised hand is too big, that same arm is too long, her right hand is probly too small, and well... i still dont like her skirt. Oh well. I suppose I can always go back and fix it.
When I ink my drawings I usually do it on tracing paper. Someone from one of GU's forums had mentioned doing that and I've been doing it since. The reason I do that is because my hands shake pretty bad when i'm inking. If i really screw up a line i can toss the tracing paper and start again. For anyone else with shakey hands, I'd suggest trying that and seeing how that works out for you.

actully i didn't notice anything till you point it out, but really i just think the raised arm is a tad large, and it caused the hand to be large, otherwise i think it is rather porportionate.

hmmm tracing paper... might need to look into that before i start inking my drawings(i'd hate to lose my originals)... i have done pencil alot and get in the bad habit of shadeing my drawings, but with my wacom and scanner it forces me to A) change drawing style, B) clean up my pics, or C) not color them... so tracing paper is kinda thin, what kinda pens do you use for inking, or recomend?
i don't have horribly shaky hands but i tend to be heavy handed, that's probably just as bad and leads to dark beginer lines which with my luck... even if i switch to blue lead it would still show up on the scanner lol.

I took some art classes at college, one of the few things i remember is a trick to take whatever drawing you do and watch it on a mirror. You most likely will notice errors you did not before because, if i recall the teacher correctly, you suddenly are not looking really at your own work, and will be less forgiving since everyone tends to be sort of a little more forgiving to teir own work than other's (at least at the moment you are doing it, because if you come back at it days or weeks later you will also notice the errors).

Even so, i think it is very good!

Also i ask the same as DogEye, what do you use to ink?

Oh and a trick i used once was to scan a drawing into the pc and print out a light blue copy and inked that. Then scaned it as line art, the scanner ignores the blue if it is light enough.

I used to use radiograph, but too many times buying a new one because i forgot to clean out the pen after I was done got to be expensive. I use Staedtler which comes in a package of 4, with sizes 01, 03, 05, and 07. I think you can buy them individually. I also use Pigma Micron because they have a size 005 (0.20mm) which i think is dandy. Both Micron and Staedtler I bought at Michaels.

I use staedtler and pigma micron as well for most of my tribal art. But for most of my realistic sketches I use a good old black Bic ballpoint. I prefer pens to pencils, I get better contrast and shading that way.

DogEye

ack Bic! i hated those, they tend to roll away from me and i could never get a straght line let alone smooth, i'm the type that really needs that little bit of drag Bic never gave me. lol guess that is why i enjoy pencil.

Aysel colored (http://julirama.homestead.com/files/wow/aysel.jpg)
This (http://julirama.homestead.com/files/wow/aysel_color.jpg) one is a larger file, but I felt like I lost some detail with the other picture. I'm not terribly happy with the way this came out. I had a hard time with the shading and I was becoming frustrated with it. I guess ya get some good ones and some bad ones. *shrugs*

Its just a hobby for me. ;) So no commissions for me, although, if something interesting comes up, I usually do it for free.

You know, none of that stuff is really noticable unless you point it out. I think you may be overly critical of your own work, because until you said something about it I could see nothing wrong with the picture.

Dionysian (http://julirama.homestead.com/files/everquest/dionysian.jpg) is a gift I just finished tonight... or maybe tomorrow night as tend to go back and touch up alot. For comparison, Dion's sig (http://julirama.homestead.com/files/sigs/dionysian_tag.gif) is the original I had done a couple years ago. Some things came up and I wanted to redo it. I wanted to to have the same feel as the original so the pose is the same. On the original, its very simplistic because I had just started playing with color on the computer and more detailed drawings made it more difficult to color.

Overall... I'm pleased with the revised version of Dionysian.

.......... I will never draw again.......

;-)

Seriously, I envy people that can actually draw well, especially people. Machines I can kinda do, but people? feh, out of my league. Good work :-)

Breandan I use to be the same way. theres a art book called "how to draw comics the marvel way" it hads a very good section on how to draw people. after about a year of trying I finaly got a style down that I like. there is a example of my work here on this forum, nowere near as good as Tati but good non the less.

Now back on subject. I may have to try the traceing paper technique you mentioned Tati. I cant wait to see the inked and colored stages of your latest project.

Tati

Thanks Breandan. I doubt I could do machines. I have such a hard time with metalic objects, especially when it involves alot of long straight lines. I can hide mistakes behind curves and what-not.

Wizard magazine used to have a "How to draw..." section in the middle of it, and I believe they're compiling what they've had in the magazine into a book. For me though, I have Human Anatomy for Artists by my side. It has all the bone and muscle structure you could ever need.

I think the inked and colored stages of this project may be a long ways off, if I even color it. I know exactly how I want it colored, but I'm not terribly comfortable with coloring yet.... especially on a detailed piece like this one.
