Post Character Bios, Maps and OOC comments in this thread. Blah blah blah you know the drill
Skill Point System
Every Character gets 5 skill points to spend.
A person attempting a difficult task they are unskilled for will take several times as long, has a high chance of failure and/or will have much poorer end results.
Combat Skills:
Basic: Poor accuracy with common small arms. Poor ability for melee. Unable to use exotic weapons of either type.
1 point
Small Arms: Allows reasonable accuracy with the use of small arms such as pistols, riffles, shotguns, bows and assualt riffles. Also allows for field maintainance of said weapons.
Exotic Firearm (specific): Allows the use of uncommon small arms such as shoulder mortars, heavy machine guns, repeating crossbows and other unique or very rare weapons. Also allows for field maintainance of said weapons.
Marksman: High accuracy boost at long range (requires: Small arms or Exotic Firearm (specific) Only works for weapons covered by the pre-req)
Martial Arts: Training in unarmed combat. Includes wrestling, boxing and karate-like skills.
Melee Weapons: Trained in the use of common melee weapons such as Swords, shields, blunt weapons and two handed weapons.
Exotic Melee Weapons: Allows the use of uncommon melee weapons such as spiked chains, whips, energy swords and other unique or very rare weapons.
Armored Combat: Removes accuracy and evasion penalties when using armor heavier than heavy leather/light studded.
Driving/Riding skills:
Basic: Can operate most motor vehicles such as cars, trucks and jeeps at safe speeds over non-extreme terrain. Can ride trained horses or other similar trained riding animals over non-extreme terrain.
1 point
Exotic Vehicle (specific): Allows driving exotic vehicles such as hovercraft. Counts as having Advanced Driving for rough terrain or difficult driving conditions.
Dragon Riding: Allows player to ride and control a dragon for travel or combat. (Requires: Animal Handling AND Beast Training)
Advanced Riding: Allows "trick" riding, advanced speeds in dangerous terrain and other situations where a skilled animal/beast rider is required.
Advanced Driving: Allows "trick" driving, advanced speeds in dangerous terrain and other situations where a skilled vehicle driver is required.
Misc skills:
1 point
First Aid: Allows field medical treatment including field sutures and setting broken bones.
Advanced Medical Treatment: Allows for simple surgery in field conditions, such as removing bullets or other projectiles from areas such as the stomach where it could be deadly for one untrained to do so. Allows for more advanced medical procedures in non-field conditions. (Requires: First Aid)
Medical Specialist (specific): Brain surgeon, Heart surgeon etc. In hospital conditions allows for advanced procedures for surgery and treatment of specialised areas. (Requires: First Aid AND Advanced Medical Treatment)
Animal Handling: Able to deal with out of control, untrained or poorly trained animals. Allows training of non-magical animals within reason. Some animals are inherently untrainable.
Beast Training: Allows handling and training of magical animals within reason. Some magical animals are inherently untrainable. (Requires: Animal Handling)
Jack of Trades: Slight ability in all skills (not including skills with pre-reqs). Can bind a wound but cannot set a bone, can jury-rig a fan belt from another material but it will not last long or be effective, slightly increased ability with weapons.
Acrobatics: Much more athletic than most, you can perform feats of agility that others simply cannot. Some very difficult or dangerous feats require other skills, for example jumping from a vehicle you are driving to a horse at speed over rough terrain requires Advanced Horsemanship and/or Advanced Driving to have reasonable chance of sucess.
Strength: Allows greater than normal strength. Higher damage with melee/unarmed and can carry more as well as being able to take more punishment. (large races such as ogres/trolls get this free)
Speechcraft: Improved negotiation abilities and bargaining skills.
Stealth: Improved ability to hide oneself whether the terrain is favorable or not. Improves ability to move unnoticed if not directly observed.

Name: Barod Hajjock
Race: Human.
Age: early 30's.
Occupation: currently Bounty Hunter for the Trade Alliance (a high-ranking business)
Appearence: Usually never seen without his helmet on. It covers his whole face witha black visor covering the t-shaped area over his eyes nose and mouth (think jango-fett from starwars) He wears a suit which includes plating on his chest, arms, abdomen, thighs, shins, forearm, and a protective collar around his neck. A renowned rutheless killer, does what he's paid to do to the letter. His roughneck tactics have earned him a harsh reputation.
Weapons: Semi-auto rifle. He uses it for shooting down his targets at either close or long range. He carries two high-powered pistols on both thighs for close range combat. He has a single knife at his belt which is a little over six inches, some say it is forever stained in blood.
Personality: Bad-ass character. When he walks into a room everybody knows he means business. Able to hold his own in a fist fight if necessary. He began working for the Trade Alliance when they were having trouble with renegades and outlaws raiding their supply trains. They highered him because of his reputation on a previous job. He speaks in a rough voice, rarely kindly to anybody. He is viewed as a rutheless killer. Some idolize him for his strength and toughness.
EDIT: I can't find my skill stats!!!!

Inside the arms of this cross is a rack carrying 6 loaded .45 cal 1911 pistols and spare ammo clips. The main body of the cross is a shoulder mortar with 6 rounds stored.

*On exotic weapons for firearms, it's specific, does the same go for melee?
**Inclined to strike critical areas more despite the lack of defensiveness. Side effects include sadistic nature(?). (Just an idea, if'n you don't like, tell me and it shall be gone.)
Kurik didn't know much of his past, or anything for that matter. All he did know was that he was currently enslaved by a nomadic tribe. The collar around his neck looked naught more than a simple platinum band, but whenever he disobeyed the tribesmen, it would constrict his throat.
Whenever the tribesmen got bored, however, they would make him fight other creatures for sport. On occassion, it's even another tribesman.

Yes for all exotic weapons. What it pretty much means is that that weapon requires special training to use. Someone good with a sword or a club can use many styles of swords or maces but they would be useless with a spiked chain.
Someone trained with assualt riffles is useless with a shoulder mortar. etc

Name: Cesan Obarneithich
Occupation: Ecologist, musician (singing, piper (nothing like elvish bagpipes)), and mercenary
Race: 3/4 Sand elf, 1/4 human
Appearance: Stands at roughly 1.7 meters tall, shoulder length auburn hair, with just the tips of his pointed ears showing. Bright yellow eyes gleam from above an aquiline nose, set in a lean face with hollowed cheeks and a sharp chin. Build is more heavily muscled than that of a typical sand elf. Wears earth-toned clothes that blend with the sand. Looks to be in mid 20's but it's hard to tell with elves...
As a Sand elf he has very thick skin the colour of the dunes. His biology is adapted to lose as little moisture as possible while still regulating temperature.
Weapons: Carries a pistol, a long bow, rifle, rapier, and a dirk. (Both sword and dagger are family heirlooms. He can use them, but prefers his (new) bow)
Bio: Raised in the deep desert by his tribe. Knows the ways of the desert and can survive for days in the wilderness. For company and transportation he has a horse bred by his people specifically for the harsh arid climates of this world.
Stats:
Str. 14
Dex. 17

Who should the mysterious gaurds be?
How long should it take to get through the pass?
What should the other side be like?

Um...Cyrilus, the oil barons already took over the area. They wouldn't sell drilling rights ;P
They used the bandits to take over the town then moved in with the private army (tan uniformed soldiers are the military of that particular baron)

Last word on Oasis city (not including my post, of course) was:
[quote="Coffee"]
Cesan knew why the bandits had left; he'd made mental contact with Artair many hours ago (possible due to the close proximity and their relation.) The inhabitants of the town had brought reinforcements from the outlying communities.
quote]
You said something about soldiers setting up a blockade by the breached gate, but nothing about them taking over the city. I figured all the attackers were repelled when the reinforcements arrived.
If you really want I can go back and edit the offending line, but unless it's messing up a plot twist of yours, it's probably easier just to leave the minor details as they are.

08-16-2005, 04:13 AM
As for the disagreement over the oil drilling thing, those are two different towns. Oasis city is the town that was under seige, the other was a town before the oasis and I don't remember if we named it. The latter was under the control of the fuels folks, but I'm pretty sure Novib was in the former.
$tormin
08-16-2005, 03:52 PM
Novib was in the same town we were in when we left, we even bought stuff from him directly.
Somewhere buried in the original ooc thread it was said that the raiders were just there to capture the town before the company moved in. I am not surprised that it was missed, it would probably take me a bit to find it myself and I wasn't away when it was happening ;)
The company probably does a lot of contracting out, they wouldn't be able to handle everything in the area themselves quite yet so Novib could have gotten ahold of some of the contracts, though it wouldn't be the extraction itself but maybe something closely involved with it.
I was going to do a shortish thing where Errard tries to negotiate a better deal between the townsfolk and the company (so they are not screwed too harshly) but I saw everyone was getting bored with there so I decided not to.
Speaking of boredom, maybe we should move the time up by atleast a few days. Every few posts seem to be spotting raider tribes (or whatever) and though there is some action in the area, they can't be all that thick ;). Just pop us out to quite close to the destination? Before someone does it though, should wait to see if anyone has any objections to that. I don't know if anyone has any plans between here and there.
Pay more attention silly.
Those two weapons are standard. Falcion and pistol are covered under the standard, broad skills. If it was an oddball magic boomerang falction then it would require a special set of skills (meaning exotic weapon  )

Rookie
08-16-2005, 08:22 PM
Well, there is logic behind that. You see, if Errard is dead, he cant fix the bike as well. If he does not particularly like Borad, he will not fix the bike as well, probably rig it to blow up under him. So as i see it, keep Errard happy with you and alive, and he can help fix your trike when it gets broken down.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't certain weapons basically de facto elf equipable, no matter the class? Longsword, rapier, and bow come to mind. I think it's in the 3.5 edition, but I'll have to check my books when I get back to Korea. (I'm home on leave right now.)

I thought falchions were two handed to begin with?

I knew them elves couldn't do two handers.

But mine's not your typical human falchion. Elves get creative and make bigger weapons such as the Elven Falchion, which is larger, and two handed.

Somehow, I see an Orc doing that instead of an elf.

I just dislike elves. Too hoighty toighty and plotty schemey.

Ah, that explains the sudden decrease in elf populations.

Quick roll call for Swarfy and Living Dead Guy.
If either / both of you are still in this thread, would you mind me borrowing your characters for a post or two? I figured I might as well rally up all the other stragglers stuck in Oasis City and sally forth back into the wilderness.

Okay, I will probably have a bit more time now that RvR is dying again and leveling my blademaster is getting boring ;)
I will catch up and post either later today or tomorrow.

Ummm, we've kinda not been posing as much. As i like to do, i will use an analogy:
We're in a lowrider that just tried to go over a log in the woods.
ideas?

Well.. Who is this guy? Is he an elf, or an outside source?

Nah. If he was an elf Gondi would have killed him in 12 different ways already.
