One of my favorite movies ever, so I figured I'd write a review.
Now, the first thing to consider is that this isn't a traditional zombie movie. In fact they aren't even "zombies". The survivors refer to them as "infected", a very fitting name considering the frenzied state is spread by... you guessed it! An infection!
The movie starts out with a guerilla team of what you're to assume are animal rights activists in the near future. Scientists at Cambridge have been experimenting on chimps and they have been infected with what one scientist refers to simply as rage. After a short discussion one of the activists releases a chimp and it jumps her. Infection spreads and 28 days later, you meet Jim, the currently naked hero of the story. I love how they developed mood here. You see, during daytime the infected stay out of sight, so Jim finds himself wandering the streets of London all by himself, and the only evidence of humanity is the reckage and litter left behind. The music fits perfectly and gradually speeds up as he begins to realize what has happened. I love this scene, it's brilliant and sets the mood perfectly.
The movie is full of mood changes that you would think to be out of place but actually fit quite well. Jim's character changes drastically throughout the movie but once again, it is fitting and not out of place. He goes from the confused and frantic nutter just trying to survive to the efficient and almost sadistic warrior.
This movie is very emotional and in many scenes you feel very immersed. One example is when one of the survivors (won't say who) get's infected and she brutally murders him with a machete. (Very graphic)
When Frank died I almost felt like crying, because he died in such a tragic way.
And the ending is... very very very odd. VERY.
This is, in my opinion, the greatest horror movie ever made, and my favorite of all time.
It get's a 9.8/10 from me.

I loved 28 Days Later... gave me nightmares for a week (it's the red-eyedness and the sound they made). And even besides that, it was an awesome flick.

I sometimes feel like I'm the only person who hated this movie, I really, really do.
I was never scared, I never jumped, I never felt uneasy, the biggest reason is because I'm spoiled by classic horror and zombie films. The other reason is because the ''zombies'' or rather, infested victims, ran, and the running just ruined it for me, I sometimes feel I'm the only one unaffected by crappy ''shock'' thrillers.
The only thing that stands out in this movie is the plane in the sky when the main character is on his back, that was very interesting, I liked that quite a bit.
Other than that I never understood why this was so well liked, then again I hated both ''Ring'' movies as well, and people love those.
Ah well, at least I still have Land Of The Dead.

I think the reason it was so liked was because it wasn't just another Dawn Of The Dead clone. It explained the infection and took the zombies in an entirely different direction. I wouldn't call this a thriller either, it's more psychological. I just found it so ironic that the entire time they were running from the zombies, their worst enemies were the soldiers they were trying to get to.
P.S. The Ring 1 and 2 sucked both my balls.
The Ring one was sucking this one while the Ring 2 was sucking the other.

28 Days Later came out before the Remake, which was a fast paced Zombie movie, now if you're referring to the original, steppin' off might be a good idea, though I believe you're referring to thriller-blood-soaked movies, which is a fine comparison.
This is obviously a thriller, at least in my eyes, it was designed with the masses in mind with a few very quick tidbits which somehow made it more than just another blood-soaker, the constant flashing of the ''Zombies'' ruined their scariness for me. The thing is this was designed for theaters, it wasn't designed to be a superb film, it was designed for big speakers, and large groups of people, the story holds together, but that's not why it sold.
Same reason with the Dawn of the Dead remake, it didn't sell because it had a great story, solid characters, or political and social satire, all of which were absent, people went because it was a thriller, because bimbos love to be scared while their boyfriends look on in content at being clinged to. This is the formula that makes all thriller movies drown in suck, the only ones that get anywhere are the ones that have fun with it, like Freddy vs Jason for instance, not a serious film, but a classic thriller.
Right with the Ring sucking though, both are typical americanized c***holsters.

i liked the movie but since i have low tolerance for horror movies i had to watch it through my fingers and i never watched it through the end. I got to the part where they got to the soldiers and thats it. what happened after that?

I think the ending...
You know, I don't think about the ending.
I mean....
What was with it?
It's still one of my favorite movies ever, but I wish the ending would have been...for lack of better word...better.

I agree the ending lacked.. I am also a bit sick of movies showing soldiers that way.. dang.. they aren't all bloody thirsty, psycho sexual paths..
also.. Concerning frank..
(when they meet him...he is dressed in full riot gear.. why did he not keep that protection when leaving... so is completley open when he gets infected..)
D'oh I know not everyone is smart in movies.. but geez..

I loved this movie for its simplicity and creative story line. Im not a fan of fast zombies but it worked in this movie.
the ending was a little odd being all enemies are both undead and alive.
The effects were great, really well done in the cgi of Cillian Murphy's manlyhood.
Id say it is one of the best zombie movies.

I finally rented this..it wasn't bad but was a bit confusing. Are the 'Infected' zombies or just virused maniacs? And why would they starve; they were surrounded by food, namely each other. They should have been attacking each other in a shark-like frenzy until only the strongest were left.
The drop of fluid from a corpse still containing live virus was questionable. Blood separates pretty fast when the body dies.
I never could get the recce pilot's message clear on my TV (bad VHS tape). Did he say "No survivors found?" And I thought on the radio overplay early in the movie they said "Panic in New York" indicating it had indeed spread globally?

they weren't zombies, merely humans that had been driven mad with virally-induced rage. They were so wrapped up in their rage that they didn't eat or really drink, thus they starved to death. As for the global spread, they mentioned that it did spread, but it looks like it got smacked flat elsewhere before it could get out of hand (with a thirty-second incubation period, this is easy to do with a well-armed quarantine blockade. Simply lock the area down and kill everything in it. Brutal, but effective, as no carrier of the virus would be dormant long enough to slip past). As for the recon pilot, it's been awhile since I have seen it, but I think he said something about finding survivors when he flies over their sign.
