I'm 16. I'm a healthy, male, getting decent grades as a junior in high school.
So, I'm sitting in 4th block (last class of the day), when I sniffle really weird. I put the back of my hand to my nose to make sure it wasn't blood, but it was. I was excused to the bathroom where I proceeded to put a million and a half tissues to my nose. After about 10 minutes of fighting my own blood, I notice a giant red thing up in there. I rub it with a tissue, and a clot thing comes out. More of a deep red membrane thing. It had to have been at least 5 inches long. After that came out, the bleeding stopped, and now everything is better.
My parents said if it happened again, I was supposed to go into surgery. I've never been surgerized before, and I'm kinda worried. Should I be? I know that sounds pretty lame, but I never go to the doctor for anything more than checkups. :(

O.o
Doctor. Now.
may be nothing critical, but NEVER mess with anything in the sinus or nasal cavity, as so much as a bug fart of an infection can RAPIDLY get dangerous.

Coincidence? A similar thing happened to me today.
I was in Adv English (2nd period) and then all of a sudden something runs down my face, i check, sure enough it be blood. Then it just gushes. the poor guy sitting next to me goes, "Uhhh, sir, we got a problem." The teacher looks over his shoulder then goes, "GO! GO GO!! BATHROOM THAT WAY!!!!" (He's a football coach) so then i sit in the bathroom for the next 10 minutes bleeding my brains out. Apparently i had left a trail, cause the local friendly custodian came in and found me. then i was led to the office after he cleaned and i managed to stop the bleeding. Went and sat in the office for an hour and a half and ended up going home because i got a cold...
No clot, but still a bad way to start a weekend (we only have 4 day weeks)

see a doctor, have blood work done.
specifically have them check for low iron.

Talk to a doctor. Might be iron. Might be sinuses. Might be allergies.
Not good for you to guess. *shakes her head*

There was a small defect with the programable perception bio filters we were implanting about 15 years ago. You should've already gone to the doctor to have it replaced. I guess your watcher is slacking on the job.
No worries, just go hit up the doctor and he'll fix you up with a newer model

Ahhhhh... bloody noses. There are so many little veins in your nose that sit right at the surface of the skin. Rubbing, sniffling, even just dry air can cause the surface of the skin to crack and the blood vessels to leak.
The clot isn't much to worry about... your sinuses are connected to your airways, esophagus and mouth.
By putting tissue in your nose, the blood pooled as it over soaked the tissue. Once coagulated it clotted up in your nose. Pooling blood does this much faster than just a drop of blood. The strands kind of latch on to one another and instantly form a gooey rubbery substance.
What you pulled out of your schnozzle is just a long chain of coagulated blood.
If you have major problems with lots of bloody noses you may just want to get the blood vessels cauterized in your nose. But, if it happens only occasionally, I'd say you're free from having to worry about surgery.
Honestly, I'd say you don't have anything to worry about.

I think that's what the noseologist said earlier. Something about dry skin getting ruptured?
Anyways, my parents are checking the insurance company tomorow, to see if it's covered. If not...it's going to be a looong rest of my life, knowing that my nose could explode into a bloody gore-filled messed at any given moment.

Im pretty sure mine was dry air (Mom left the stove going all night)
Its the only explanation. I was just sitting then class then, "Sir, uhhh, problem."
And apparently i left quite the trail.
On monday when i go back and people ask me about im going to say, "That guy may have sucker-punched me, but i won the fight"

my son used to get nose bleeds all the time. one treatment we were told to do was to get some saline nasal solution..it's just water with some salt in it (i have an aversion to using meds so this was ideal to me)..use it every day, at least twice a day and it should help the tissues stay saturated and stop the problems.
now, if you really have a deviated septum, believe me you'd know, it hurts ALOT. not alot of treatment for that unless you want surgery. my mom had that problem years ago. i think she just got some pain meds for it but i can't be too sure because i was a kid at the time.

I used to get nosebleeds a lot when I was a teen. The doctor I saw finally cauterized it in his office. Can't rememember exactly what chemical he used but I think silver iodide? Silver something. It stung a little at the time and my nose felt strange for a few days but I haven't had a nosebleed since. Only took a minute to do it.

Silver Nitrate. The doctor applied some to my son's navel after the umbilical cord fell off and his navel was still bleeding. :P

That very thing you've described to me has happened to me a dozen times now. I believe what Takara said was accurate, as I've been okay since then (2, 3 years ago).
Heck, the reasons my nosebleeds would bleed for hours was because the blood coagulated and kept it from clotting properly, so I'd just semi-blow my nose and it'd stop a few minutes later.
A solution that's a bit superstitious, wear a fishing weight around your neck for a week. It worked for a friend of mine, and I haven't had a nosebleed (outta nowhere, hitting stuff still causes one) since.

That's funny. I had that done about a year ago, giant Q-Tip type probe thing up my nose, rubbed some stuff on it, and I thought my troubles were going to be over forever.
So, that didn't work apparently. I've got a bunch of spray medicines too, but those just give me headaches.
