This is a scabbard for a 15th century German backsword I am making.

Scabbard one (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/scabbard1.jpg), overall pic
Scabbard two (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/scabbard2.jpg), chape and upper applique
Scabbard three (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/scabbard3.jpg), middle appliques
Scabbard four (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/scabbard4.jpg), lower appliques
Scabbard five (http://ciarraide.org/temp/pics/scabbard5.jpg), overall unsheathed

Tomorrow night, provided the Four Horsemen aren't at my door demanding that I finally submit to Darwinism, Jim and I will be working on a swordbelt and three-fork hanger (http://www.museumreplicas.com/imagelib/0200308_L_000.jpg) for it, which will be fancy and match the scabbard :-)

what style belt do you intend to make for it?

For my Clamore I used a double thick waxed and oiled belt leather (cemented and center joined) with a double wrap, mercenary/crusader style (about 9 feet in lenght) with a single steel ring for a knot clasp.

nice hanger, though it will cover rather alot of your fancy fittings.

to me the important parts of a that is the blade itself, and the belt. the hilt, the scabbard and all the fancy fittngs are just well, fancy fittings, the blade is important when your killing but the belt is usefull all the time, its a rope when you need one, its a emergency strap, it keeps your cloths bloused nicely and holds your smaller stuff. if you knew how many times I had to stop some new member from buying a $10.00 saddle leather strap and calling it a belt you'd be shocked.

It's a hobby, hence why I have been poking at it for ten years :-)
