If you have seen the serise you know you have to see it.

If you haven't, you should see it anyway. Joss gives a rollicking good movie that pulls at the heartstrings and makes you care, while telling an story full of action and suspence.

Its one of those movies where you will laugh, cry, thinking about and quote for a long time.

And then curse the Fox executives as some of the dumbest beings on the planet for killing this back in 03.

Do you have to have seen the series to understand the movie? I never got a chance to see the TV show.

Saw an interview with Joss Whedon... with no shame whatsoever he admitted that he had made a movie for both the fans and newcomers at the same time. Without watering down the plot, which is how that kind of thing usually ends up when a director does that. And he didn't water it down.

I think the old-time fans willl like it more and get more out of it but it's by no means confusing to the newcomer. It's a fantastically done storyline that stands alone as well as adds so much to the original series.

Erm, Lirren, in a one-word answer to your question: "No." :)

I never watched the original series as it ran against something I was deeply hooked on at the time. That being said I am going to pick-up the DVD set and watch it next week so I can see all the inside stuff I missed about the movie.
It was truly awesome and I hope there is more of Serenity in the future.
