I just found out today that there's an Æon Flux movie coming out soon. (Yes, I have in fact been living under a rock for the past year.) It looks like the plot will be different than the animated series but as long it has the same style and feel I'm OK with that. The plot didn't really make a lot of sense anyway. It was just an excuse to have Æon Flux run around in her skimpy outfit.

What's the consensus? Will it be awesome or look like another bad CG comic book movie?

The trailer on Quicktime.com didn't look so bad to me. Though I doubt Charlize Theron will win another Oscar for that flick.

As if there is a better reason to go to a movie than to see a 30 foot tall Charlize Theron in spray on clothes.

Sorry about that, but Charlize didn't like the costume, so it was altered.

As I seem to recall the Aeon Flux getup from MTV was basically a few leather strapes, some rings to hold it all together, and 6 inch leather thigh highs... I guess I can kind of see what a woman would have problems with something like that. Still that outfit is more fabric then anything and covers a lot of skin. A little disappointed in the fact that its fabric and not some form of leather.

(Nothing compares to the original catwoman outfit that Michelle Phiffer had on in Batman Returns IMO)

Hey if Milla can wear straps in 5th Element and Rebecca can wear paint, what is Charlize's problem? Though the leather thong does look a bit uncomfortable.

As far as the movie.. we'll see.. The spikey grass looks like the stuff I grew in AZ.

Maybe when the either of the first 2 win an Oscar they can be more picky like Charlize :)

I'm sitting here wondering why the title of this thing has the Norwegian alphabetical letter "Æ" in it. Can someone explain? :-)

The cartoon was spelt like that. I always figured it was something Mtv did to add to the coolness factor.

Weird. "Æ" is a Norwegian alphabetical letter, along with "Ø" and "Å" - non of which exist in your alphabet over there. I always thought you guys had to look for ten minutes to find the letter combination on your keyboard. :-)

For those of us that know how to use the Alt key or the Character Map
Ø : U+00D8 : Alt + 0216
Æ : U+00C6 : Alt + 0198
Å : U+00C5 : Alt + 0197

AFAIK, Æon Flux the cartoon was done by a European (French I think, but don't hold me to that, since it has been ages since I payed any attention to it... never liked the style, too damned depressingly ADHD), and thus the spelling and alien concepts. The movie is going to be more geared to an American audience (read: it will have more plot than the series, and less quasi-homoerotic/BDSM qualities to it), so anyone going to this movie expecting it to be like the cartoon will be sorely disapointed. Then again, considering I never liked the cartoon, the movie might actually be something I will watch.

As for strange Norweigan characters, hell, you think that's bad, try using an American keyboard coded for English and typing in Gaeilge. á, é, í, ó, and ú are not in the English alphabet, so I wind up having to either hotkey them or, since I am using a Z-board and switch out keysets all the time, just learn how to knock out the codes VERY fast. The trade-off is that our language doesn't use j, k, q, v, w, x, and z, so it balances out in the end :-)

Your language dosn't use j, k, q, v, w, x, and z? Holy! That's quite remarkable, really. Especially when it comes to the j, k and v.

Go n-éirí an bóthar leat.
Go raibh an chóir ghaoithe i gcónaí leat.
Go dtaitní an ghrian go bog bláth ar do chlár éadain,
go gcuire an bháisteach go bog mín ar do ghoirt.
Agus go gcasfar le chéile sinn arís,
go gcoinní Diethe i mbosa a láimhe thú.

It's a good thing I'm used to disappointment :(

I cut and pasted the "Æ" character. BTW, how do you say, "Æ?" I always use a long "e" sound as in "Ian". I know there are keyboard shortcuts for most 'special' characters but I don't use them enough to memorize them. I use the insert/symbol menu in word.

Long 'e' sound as you mentioned, as in "Ian". Though in Norway, it's pronounced completely different. I couldn't begin to describe it here; kind of a short "a" as in "as" with a roll of the tongue is the best I can come up with.

I have heard it pronounced I-on or A-on, but for clarities sake I pronounced it A-E-on.

As for the funny letters, is there some handy guide to getting all of those ALT codes that Mutton referenced? I used to know the one for the British monetary Pound sign, but I thought that used the CTRL key, not ALT.

Actually, I read in a dictionary once that that particular character is pronounced like the "a" in "gnat". I think it did, at one point in time, exist in the English language, but has fallen out of use.

And Charlize Theron doesn't look as good in dark hair.

On a Windows computer:
Start >> Programs >> Accessories >> System Tools >> Character Map

Or more universally:

I only watched the animated series here and there, so I'm not totally familiar with that particular series or story.

From watching the latest venture, I thought they did pretty well. It was fast-paced, had a plot you could follow and Charlize Theron was enjoyable to watch, but not a total distraction as would have happened if she'd donned the animated series costume.

However, it's not something I want to watch again 'til it comes out on DVD for rental.

We saw it the other night... it was... fun. Not winning any acting awards for certain. But a fun movie with all kinds of neat-o futuristic gadgets and stuff ;)

I saw it and thought it was great. It wasnt too overboard like Elektra and not as lame as "Catwoman"

Chalize did a pretty good job.

I finally got to see this. I was entertained; which for me is the make or break point for a movie. Since I knew going in it wasn't going to have, in Breandan's words, "quasi-homoerotic/BDSM qualities," I wasn't too disappointed. It was a good movie adaptation which still retained some of the surreal feel of the animated series. However, since they didn't go with the erotic emphasis I think it could of used some more action. There were a few places where it felt a little slow. Overall I give it 4 out of 5 rating tokens.
