I have just finished the first 3 and I am currently working on the last one.

book 1 A Game of Thrones. It is rare for a book to grab my interest on the first page as much as this one has. The history and House structure in GRRM's world is intriguing to say the least. Although the first was a little slow on action the character development was worth it. The end of every chapter left me wanting more and more, and by the end of the book I could hardly wait for the next.

Book 2 A Clash of Kings. Much more of the same. His character development really starts to pay off, I love how he can Write a character so that you dislike them and then turn them around and show you how and why they made their choices, To the point that you actually start to like and love that character.

Book 3 A Storm of Swords. The action real starts to take off and the title really says it all, its an action packed sleepless night book. I am so excited for A Feast for Crows to get here from Amazon I might faint.

When Ned was killed off I was very upset that He has the nerve to kill of a leading character like that. Then another dies and another dies and it seems that we are left with few form the first book. Now I am wondering who he will kill off in the next book. It is refreshing to notbe able to guess what's going to happen next. But if Arya gets killed off I will prolly have to stop readying for a few days for mourning.

I first read these long time back... just recently we bought the 4th and now I'm rereading the first three to refresh my memory. And well, they're kinda long :P

Good lord, is it ever an in-depth world, the character development, the politics and history and it's interesting stuff or I'd have kicked em to the curb long ago :D

And I kinda like how he's not afraid to kill folks off, to be honest. First time I read it, my jaw dropped when he killed Ned. I like being surprised. Though I agree, if he kills off Arya or Jon Snow I may just have to close the book and go into mourning for a while.

Hands down my favorite fantasy series bar none. I could rave about these books for pages, but I won't!
If you are a fan of fantasy, or just a plain good read... check these out.

My favorite series as well. I got the 4th book "A Feast For Crows" Good book very short compared to the others. Only 700 pages or so. He said he had to split things up to get in depth as he wanted. It leaves you hanging big time. You don't get much into some of your favorites. But the others are there. Can't wait for the next one. I had to wait way too long for this one.

Mr. Martin paints an awesome world. All four of these books are page turners. If you are looking for the 4th book to give you closure.... It doesn't.

What a wonderful series... sadly, book 4 didn't resolve anything. It did some nice character development, but not on the main characters. I can't wait for the next one!!!

Just finished book 4 last night... wow!

And I must say... I giggled when they threw Cersei in prison at the end. And I CHEERED when Jaime burned her letter asking him to come save her. I can't believe how much he's changed. I find myself liking him against my will almost, lol.

And... Arya is blind? And, I hope Brienne isn't really dead, like I'd thought Catelyn was in the 3rd one. And holy crap, is Cat CREEPY now.

Can't wait for the next one!

Has there been any answers on how big the final book count will be? I refuse to get into another Jordan/Goodkind marathon without knowing there is an ending. So, I've been buying these and putting them on the shelf until it's done.

I saw that which is what made me ask the question. I seem to recall he mentioned in an interview while Feast was being written what his plans were. Now that he's broke one book into two (or more) it seems he is falling into current trend of excess verbage. A fear another never ending story.

I agree the site isn't clear.

Spoiler:I didn't really finish the book, as i stopped where brienne was hanged(i hope she isnt dead, she was such an intresting character.), and went on to another series. Arya blind is a really weird thing, that surprised me, but i cheered as well when Cersei was thrown into jail, actually i laughed, laughed so hard i couldnt pick up the book without it dropping(im evil aint I?) Jaime, he was arrogant at first, but then he became a respectful character in book 3 and 4.Anyways, great series, I'm looking forward to the next book.

Me too... talk about a cliffhanger ending, and I want to know about Tyrion, Jon, Brann, etc.... dammit! One good thing is that on his website, Martin said that even though the next book will basically fill us in on the characters that were left out in A Feast For Crows, he will still quite possibly continue with Jaime, Cersei, Arya, etc and not leave us hanging as far as their various fates... Anyway, we should see A Dance With Dragons in November~!!!!

Oneeye, you just so depressed me. I love those books and have been hanging on the side of the cliff since I finished the last one. HAHAHAH!

Like the posters above, I like how my feelings for the characters change the further along I read. I definitely become emotionally involved with them as I read.

Picked up the first book couple of days ago and started to read the first couple chapters. I really like Martin's story telling; however, does he ever stop referring to the bastard son by bastard son. I swear I have never seen that word used so many times. Other than that a good book so far.

Alright, so I decided to give this series a shot based on the reviews posted here, and I have to say - I'm freaking hooked!

I just finished reading a Feast for Crows, and am dying to find out when a Dance with Dragons is going to be released.

LOL. Probably.

As of January of this year he still has not given a release date for the next book. But you can keep an eye out for a release date here: http://www.georgerrmartin.com/nextbook.html

Finished the first book this weekend, and I must say I really enjoyed it. I then got the next two books, and haven't gotten very far. All I have to say is...NNNOOOO Ned...I hardly knew thee It'll be interesting to see how the rest of the story plays out.

Oh and his website looks like those old Diablo bot sites...but without the spinning pentagrams

Finished up the 2nd book, was reading it off and on at night for 2 weeks. I hardly put the book down when I picked it up. I was extremely angry for about 8 or 9 chapters when I thought SPOILER: Bran and Rickon were dead. I honestly thought about just completely stopped reading the book at that point, but I pressed on. I'll be starting book three tomorrow, hopefully it's as good as the first 2.

That story grabs you and just won't let go, and yes... the third is just as good as the first two. Be prepared for some shocks though.

Ok just a quick question about the third book...do anymore main characters die in this one? I'm mainly talking about any of the Starks or Lannisters (main players)

Serresrelic

Oh yeah.

I think more central characters die in book 3 than the first 2 combined

Finished up book 3 and almost done with book 4. I really enjoy where Martin is going with these books thus far. It was also surprising when Cat was alive, I thought he killed her off with Robb. And I can honestly say I saw it coming with Robb. He wasn't given much of anything in the book, then again he is pretty tricky when it comes to who dies and who lives.

Tristate... as for Catelyn, I am still not sure what's going on there, and I have finished book 4. Weirdness.

Tristate0999

I forget his name at the moment, but the Red Priest basically revived her. Just like Lord Berric(?), too many to remember, she doesn't actually heal other than she regains her life. So I think that's what's going on

Yup, Tristate... and it's creepy as all hell...

Kaylen

Actually, and this is being a bit nitpicky, but.. Dondarrion revived Cat, not Thoros the red priest. It cost him his life. I very much missed Daenerys, and was very glad to see that the bonus chapter featured her.

Well I made my statement before actually getting to that part in the book. Anyhow...finished up book 4 about 2 weeks ago and I want book 5 to come out

i just finished reading the first book in the series. I was not disappointed for one minute. Don't know why I've never read them before, they are exactly the type of book I like to read. Going to buy the second one today or tomorrow.

Finished book 3 not too long ago, about 200 pages in to 4 at the moment.

Man Tywin got pwned. Did not see that coming..

Also, Dani is a babe. The part with her and Irri, oh man. Book sex owns.

I just wish The Hound didn't get owned so hard. I mean, sure Arya is the money and all, and the Hound is kind of a phallus, but he was still sooo cool.

Sweet, I was hoping it would be done, but now it makes me wonder how much longer this will add to the writing schedule he has set up for the books. I know it says he'll be co-exec produce the shows, but honestly is that all he will do?

That news makes my whole century... I was wondering what would fill the TV vacumn with both Rome and Deadwood ending this year. ASOIAF is my favorite fantasy series bar none... so that's even better. I just wonder how long it will be before we see the first episode? I'm imagining 2009 or so...

after reading the 4th book now, again I say, why haven't I read these before, they are just the genre i love. Can't wait to read the next one and I hope that HBO doesn't mess up the story too much.

I've loved the series so far, they've been just incredible.
Martin does political intrigue and plot twists better than any other author out there.
Jordan's Wheel of Time isn't nearly as involving as this, but with enough of the right people dying I'm hopeful that we don't go as long as that series.
