Could my eyes decieve me, could this be a trailer for a video game movie that looks both interesting and still retains the concepts of the original game

Dang! That actually looks good. I've not played the game, so I know nothing about the story line. But it looks like a very creepy movie.

I think it actually looks good because a certain director didn't get his hands on the rights to the movie. I think it's good to not see Uwe Boll's name on the movies, and this movie does look very good. Been awhile since I played the game, but it does to stay true.

damn, they actually follow the storyline of the game fairly closely.

hehehehe I cant wait. I love the fact that they took the storyline from the first one. Oh man this is going to be good.

Altogether now, with the mantra of the film and game lover- please, please, please for the love of all that's interactively destructible in a cinematic way, please let this be good.
Still, even if it isn't great, per say, they've got the look down pretty pat. And hey, Sean Bean!

The Silent Hill movie encapsulates the same features as the games.
Watching my friend play the FULL silent hill 2 in a 10 hour period *yes we were that bored* was like watching a 10 hour horror movie. The silence is killer, that silence is enough to set the hardest man in fear.
The trailer i saw... broguht ALL those feelings back.
Is this enouhg to prove me that this movie will be the best game -> movie production?... oh hell yes!

Wow... I'm impressed by the trailer. They seem to have kept just about everything from the game that I remember (been a while since I played)... the fog, the sound of the siren... gonna have to watch the trailer again to see if there's a wheelchair in there anywhere (never did finish the game, so I'm not sure what that wheelchair meant anyway...).

yeah, I'm psyched. I haven't played the games through yet, though... but after watching that trailer I really want to. I honestly think if Doom had gone more horror style like this.. kinda like Alien vs. Predator or something, it would of been worth seeing.

I just have to ask, as I cant find it anywhere on the cast list or in the trailer...
Where is the Nurse? Please PLEASE let her be there!

The nurse? I saw a group of funky nurses in the trailer, one had a scalple or however you spell it.

just got back from seeing it, its defintly worth seeing it if you like moves that make you go "F***, that just F***ed up" but a word of warning, dont see this movie alone and dont watch it if it will end at night on a rainy night.
it will probably be the most messed up movie this year, I seriously doubt they could top this one.
and for anyone who does watch it heres my most F***ed up line EVER "look, I'm burning."

Oh Wicca you are evil, I need more details than that......I want to see this movie so bad.
So what you are saying is that the trailer wasn't even close to being icing on the cake? That the movie is so scary, I can't even begin to fathom the terror I will go through?
Oh enlighten me, but don't spoil it. hehe

That is so true. There some things in that movie that made me drop out loud, the f-bomb many times. I just got back from it five minutes ago and wow it was so good. 9/10.

That movie was just wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. I wasn't scared like I thought I would be. I am just left with questions.
Because I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet I won't ask them.
Wow, it was just wrong.
Digging the whole from Ohio thing though!!

I saw it a couple of days ago. I never saw any trailers for it, so I was afraid it was just going to be another mediocre haunted zombie town film with the Silent Hill named tacked on it. But when I heard the music accompanying the opening credits, I smiled, because I knew then it wouldn't be. I loved the fact nearly all the music in the film is taken straight from the game.
And then when the main character arrived in Silent Hill, and I saw the foggy streets and buildings, the interior of the school, and the hospital etc, that I knew so well from the games, I couldn't get over it, they built Silent Hill.
And I laughed in delight when I heard the sirens announcing the switchover from freaky but semi-normal Silent Hill to the real Silent Hill.
They stuck so closely to the game for so much of it, I couldn't help but like this film. They did a good job of retaining game elements while including a film plot.
It seemed to be basically an amalgamation of the Silent Hill and Silent Hill 2 games, I saw nothing of Silent Hill 4 in it, and the only thing from Silent Hill 3 was the end credit music. I love that song, I hope they release a film soundtrack in the UK.
I was a little disappointed in a couple of things, they explained where the sirens came from, and to be honest, Sean Bean's character was much under-used.
Still I will be adding to my DVD collection, and if anyone can tell me how I can make the Room in Silent Hill 4 start healing me again when those stupid candles don't seem to do much, I would be much obliged, as I am out of health potions and the dratted room is haunted. :/

yea I also liked how closely they kept to the game, even thou they used a female lead a line used a couple of times justifies it, I also liked how they even incorporated the puzzle aspect of the game. As for Sean Bean, he really couldnt be used much concidering his role. I didnt think I was going to like thayt aspect of the film but it was well handled and it made the ending sooo much better.

(Keep in mind I never played the game, really... b/f played the first though, said they did really well from what he knew)
But, no nightmares last night and there won't be any. It was indeed hugely gorey, yes, but that doesn't disturb me, really (heck, been a Stuart Gordon fan for years). There was some "intense" stuff at the beginning... ie, chases and shocks and whatnot and there was certainly some creepy things. But not nightmare-inducing. And there was actually a LOT more story to it than I expected. Especially from a movie made about a game...
I give it my recommendation ;)

I think this is why the crictics gave it such bad reviews, and why I'm sure alot of people who go to see it will be plesently surprised. I really would like to see more movies done like this, psychological horror is soo cool if it is done right, and Silent Hill is defintly one that messes with your mind, the games did and now the movie does too, I hope they do a sequel soon, and it is handled the same way.

Just got back from seeing this....one word....: Meh
Really, all it had going for it was gore, and even most of that wasn't until later into the movie. Not great, not horrible, but in my opinion, not worth the 11 bucks to get in

To me, and this was confirmed by people who have and have not played the game, it was good and damned scary for the first half, where they stuck to the game. When they veered off from the game, it just stopped being as scary. Spoilers-
There were no dogs, no flying things, nada. Only the acid spitters. Limbo Silent Hill should have been scarier, and the creepiest part about Hell Silent Hill was the surprise and shock, which they lost after the school scene.
Still, it was worth seeing for the first half of it, and for the cop :D

Yes the cop lady was a hottie. Even though I'm straight and I love my husband, if I liked women that way I'd be drooling.....Wish I had a bod like that still, maybe someday.

As an aside (and largely due to Cybill Bennet, the cop), I have sneaking suspicion I will be running Beyond the Supernatural games for my players, set in an eerily similar setting :)
But, the acid-spitters and Pyramid Head haven't seen anything until they run into a team of parapsychologists and mercenaries armed to the teeth, so it might be fun :D

Dont forget the long hallways of "all the doors are locked except one and theres "something BAD" comeing."
Or you go down a street slowly because your so terrorfied since " bad things" jump out at you at the worst of times, IE: no ammo, no WEAPON,
get them to a point were they jump when ever they hear the static on the radio lol.

I don't recall this; where did they come from?
Overall it was an excellent movie, though I did not find it scary in the least. A gorey, monster film? Yes. My girlfriend was frightened the entire damn time though and won't let me attack target dummies in Oblivion because they remind her of the nurses. Mentioning the pyramid heads is also a no-no.
I saw the trailer in theaters a few weeks ago; the second I saw the fog I knew what it was and I knew I had to see it. The only let-down has been mentioned.
I saw a preview for Pulse (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0454919/) this time and it alone could've given me nightmares, I plan on catching it.

I have a question having not played the games, if you don't want to spoil send it to me in a PM if you could, but what is going on at the end?
Where is Rose and Sharon? Where is her husband?
I just got confused as to what was going on there.

Actually, that COMPLETELY veered off from the first game, dunno about the rest. In the game, as opposed to the movie-Cybil (the cop) lives, your daughter and the ghost daughter both go poof and you wind up with a newborn baby (loooong story), with the end-movie cut scene being of you (the main character in the first game is male) and Cybil holding and looking at the baby, the Limbo Silent Hill (the one in the fog) was full of all sorts of gods-awfull nasty things, not just the acid-spitters, there were a couple of people there, but not a bunch of cultists, Dahlia was NOT a nice lady, but one of the demon-summoning cultists who caused the city to be torn from reality and schizmed off into a parallel world of Limbo and Hell, the nurses weren't as stupid as they were in the movie, and would follow you around and stab you repeatedly, the plot was radically different overall, etc.So, as you can see, the first game is so radically different from the movie after about halfway through the film that those of us who played it were looking at the screen looking pretty much like my avatar to the left and saying the non-achronymed version of the caption.

I guess it sucks to expect something from a movie and not get it. I'm grateful that I have no expectations when seeing movies.

I finally got around to seeing it. Good movie on it's own, but it had so little of the game feel to it (to me) that I couldn't help to be a bit disappointed.
The thing that interested me most was that the actress who played Rose looked like she was Heather (the girl you play in SH3) about 15 years later. Almost dead-on exact in looks.
