Im thinkin about coming back to DAOC. I've been playing WoW for a while now and am getting Bored. I have a lvl 60 Rogue and Really dont have any fun anymore. I also can't stand the Ques....usually in the 300's. It's really unnerving when the que is longer that the amount of time I have to play.

Any input is welcomed :) thankya :)

I'm liking it. Like you I left WoW. played DAoC back when it was released, but was real caught up in EQ at the time so didnt stick around long. I went and picked up the epic edition pack for DAoC and im loving it. Darkness Rising makes levelling pretty quick and profitable, and the RvR is beyond compare.

I'd recommend giving it a shot, seems DAoC isnt for everybody, but im loving it now that I'm back.

PS; god, I know what you mean about the queu's lol, I get home from work and expect to log in right quick and so hello to some peeps before I go to bed, and I've got a 2 and a half hour long queu to get through. just wasn't worth it, and I didnt even play on one of the top servers. bah! lol

It's actually Catacombs that makes leveling faster. Darkness rising isn't really necessary to do well, but the champion weapons are nice, specially the caster ones, and definitely good if you are on a classic server. I also left WoW to go back to DAoC, was craving a good PvP game, and this definitely fulfills it.

Yeah I played DAOC up to Catacombs...it was alot of fun. I enjoyed the instance runs :) I had a 50 eldritch, 50 chanter, 50 Druid and a 50 ranger ( Im a hibby at heart) I played on the co op server Gaheris. It was alot of fun. I switched to WoW because my wife did and I really liked it. Its just been geting boring. I get back from the Police academy in about a month and might give it a shot again.

Woot, Hibbies ftw. Add a 50 Ment to that list and you have my account duplicated. :D

I share your sentiment, I've been pining for some good old RvR, but have been worried about the new content, being outclassed/outequipped by those that have stuck with it and have more time on their hands.

It would take a little bit to catch up, equipmentwise, to the established players but raids for master levels are almost always open to anyone who wants to join (even if you can't get a group, being an unwanted class, you can still be there and get full credit), same with a lot of artifact runs since you don't need the artifact anymore to activate. You just need encounter credit and the scrolls (which have had their drop rate doubled or more).
Even without being able to get farming in for the rare drops seen in most templates, you can still get your essential stats nearly up to equalling most other players with easy to get stuff.

Edit: Proof! My guild from last year, over on guinevere. We were rr 2-4 and only two of us had a completed template.

I stupidly canceled my account, and it expired on the 17th of March. I loved the game and how it was set up (Except for Auto training), but I just couldn't pick a class and stick with it. Of course, thats the same for every other MMORPG.

I'd sign up again if I had the chance.

They have a free 14-day trial - knock yourself out :p

I tried to go back, was even going to try leveling to 50 in Hibernia since ive done Midgard and Albion. But typical of my previous experiences, leveling is tedius. Finding groups is near impossible, and I even tried the more populated realms like Guinivere.

I am spoiled by the relative ease of leveling in WoW. I know for sure I wont go back to EQ, and DaoC is just to tedius without friends there to help/assist you with getting going.

You probably should have tried on a classic server then. Right now I am powerleveling my nightshade with my vamp at the DL TD and there's about 20 people between the entrance and the taskmaster all either in partly formed groups that are pausing between runs to fill up or stealthers that nobody wants in their group.

If you like PvP, it's still the best game on the market imo

And if you don't wanne grind to 50, do ML raids, artifacts, farm for template, you can always have fun in the battlegrounds.

Thidranki (lvl 24) BG is great fun (on Merlin cluster)
I play there too when the 'big boy' RvR is lacking

Bleh, Hib is easy mode :D

Sadly RL has taken me away from DAOC for the last 6 weeks or so - damn I NEVER thought i'd be saying that! I miss it and the peeps I used toplay with but can't find the time lately...

There has never been anything 'easy' about Hib leveling. All the lower level areas are empty. I loaded the 14 day trial, and got to level 10 on my eldritch in those 14 days cause I could never find a group. Run to a local dungeon, and it was empty. This was during primetime, or on the weekends on Guinivere. This has been the one thing that has stopped me from leveling a Hib to 50, and I played from early beta until a year or two ago.

I tried numerous times to level up characters on Hib, but it seems impossible unless you either have friends to help you level, or a 2nd account with a 50.

I guess I could go back and make another alb or mid, but ive already seen all that....

So I've been back for a few days now and Im really happy. I am on the Gaheris server so theres no real RvR...but I enjoy raiding the keeps just the same.

Things are pretty cool. I've gotten into a new guild called "knights of awen" there a great bunch of people and make the game alot better. Thats a key with these types of games also in my opinion. If you don't have a good group of friends the game can be quite tedious.

All in all I am glad I decided to come back to DAOC. I didn't know about the artifact thing though (where you don't have to actually get the artifact) that is REALLY cool. Im gonna try for Braggarts Bow and the Sharkskin Gloves ;)

Do they still incorporate the /level system? :D Would be nice to come back and start a fresh level 1, and get to level 20 within a matter of seconds.

/level command is only available to those accounts that already have a level 50 char....

But the leveling in cata/dr is a LOT LOT faster than it used to be, cash and drops are much better too...

yep the /lvl is still there if ya have a lvl 50. but there is a server where that and the TOA stuff is disabled. Its the classic server. Mainly for those that want to lvl from 1. I have a toon on there and its alot of fun, theres actually alot of people to group with pre level 20.

Im havin the time of my life :)

I tried going back to Daoc a few times but it really feels out of date to me now. Yes..the pvp may be superior (all depends on your tastes) but I really feel the pve (especially lvling) can't stand with WoW. just my 2 cents.

I love Mythic to death, but my guild left Midgard/Gareth once we realized it was vamps and bainshees all over the place. It's just not a fair fight anymore. They're all playing DDO now and I'm back in Shadowbane. But, hey, if you're willing to fight uphill both ways in snow with no shoes, DAOC Midgard is for you.

I too recently returned to DAoC to my dead guild they I founded 4 years ago, in the last month we've recruited about 10 regulars, found a new alliance and made extreme amounts of realm points. The ToA patch that made artifacts easier to obtain, ML's a bit easier and scrolls dropping faster was a god send. As for PvE in DAoC now, I honestly believe with catacombs, task dungeuns and new quests that leveling is easier then WoW, but to each their own, still a great game and has been a lot of fun

I find the pve side of daoc to be a lot better than wow, seems to be more content, mostly due to more land and changes over time i guess. Seems quicker aswell, I never got to 60 playing casually on WoW, but have 3 level 50s on daoc since I quit wow.
I couldn't believe how much better ToA is now aswell since the new patch. What was once a boring tedium getting artifacts and levelling them is now really easy, and not all that time consuming either.
Overall, some great decisions lately to help getting an rvr ready class, and very enjoyable, for myself at least.

Now that the pain of getting ToA done has been reduced, I'm happier with the game than I have been in a long time. I'd still like to see major adjustments (*cough*nerfs*cough*) to the power of certian artifacts and Master Level abilities, but I'm happy with one step at a time.

Darkness Rising and Catacombs really have given the game a lot of fresh looks and life. I know I'll be sticking with it for a long time to come. If you are ever on the Hibbie side of the Tintagel cluster, look me or my guild up. :)
