Didn't see a thread for this on the front page, sooooo...
DVR'd this one over the HBO free weekend. Holy crap it's freaking hilarious. It bascially does what True Lies did for action films: made fun of them while still furthering the genre, only this makes more fun with a couple of gruesome shots thrown in. About peed myself when they were beating up the tavern keep in time with the Queen song playing on the juke box. All in all, I'm going to have to go get it on DVD, because it won't stay on my DVR forever. Awesome flic.

I thought this movie was absolutely awsome. Really funny, in a very gritty and british sort of way. And you can't lose with zombies!

And you can't lose with zombies!

Don't call them that.

References aside, I love this film. And, given that I bought it when I was still in Ireland, I've got all the lovely special features. Dylan Moran in a commentary explaining the futility of commentaries, Plot Holes explained... and Bill Nighy.

Not Bill Nighy doing anything in particular, just BILL NIGHY.

Got the dvd when it came out, great film, probably the best film to come out of England in a long while...
And the dvd extras on the uk release at least are just fantastic :)

I can't help but think I've seen the girl who played Liz somewhere before. I checked her out on IMDB, but nothing turned up that I've seen.

It's a great film... especially the part with Mary and the fat bloke in the backgarden. :)

I LOVE this movie, some of the best quotes I have seen.

"I'm sorry Shaun"
"About what Ed?"
"No...I'm sorry Shaun..."
"Wha...OOH Ed!"

Don't call them that.

no they are "The Cannibal, Skin Challanged Peoples of America" or 'CSCPA"

that aside, is it anything like the Hot Shots! films?

No. The humor in Hot Shots was a more physical, blatant, obvious kind of humor. Typical of American comedy. Shaun of the Dead takes a more British approach: understated, cerebral, almost inadvertant comedy that doesn't go for the cheap laugh. It's one of those things where the payoff for the joke happens long after the setup for it, so you kinda have to pay attention. Kinda like the funny moments in a Guy Ritchie film, or The Big Lebowski

ah so like in "The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy"? (book or movie adaption, whichever is a more fitting comparison)

Yeah, safe to say it's a close comparison.

Thread necromancy strikes again:

Saw this for the first time last night and thought it was great. I've always been a fan of British comedy, and I agree... in general it's more cerebral than American mainstream comedy (althought there are a few exceptions).

Even though it was a comedy, I still felt bad for some of the characters and the way they died... anyhoo, good movie.

I was surprised at how much gore they put in it. the big old chunks taken out of people, and there was the scene in the bar where the guy got torn open like a garbage sack.

Definetly an English style comedy. Pretty funny movie overall.

made hubby watch it, he now loves it. In the process of making my whole family watch it.

I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!!!!!!! Of course I've always been the creepy american who enjoys british comedies. Luckily for me I have convinced my husband that they are just as funny if not more so than his american stuff. hehe

I love this movie, you know its good when you find yourself forgetting its a zombie flick at times, the storyline was that great and the chemistry between the two lead actors was hilarious. When Shaun and his group met up with the other group in the alleys behind the houses it reminded me of the bizarro episode of Seinfeld.

maybe Newman

they should have definatly thrown in a random headcrab zombie in there or somthing, a gamer reference like that would be great.

Yeah you could actually make the zombies into different game toons, it would be great to see Mario or Louigi actually eating someones brains.
