View Full Version : Oblivion: Need help with disappearing Ogres for the Legacy Lost quest

What's got my Oblivion-playing goat now is...
I ran out to do "Lost Legacy" where you clear some ogres out of Wheatherleah. Well, I killed two of them, the the third one ran off, after my horse I presume. I haven't seeing either one since. And, without that third ogre, I can't seem to finish the quest.
Advice?

I don't think I've acctualy did that one yet I would go back to the last save its most likely outside the city you left before you got to the quest location.

Does the quest marker show the ogre's position? You'll notice for quests dealing with a specific Npc, it will move to show thier current position.

Last forced save was forever ago. And, when the quest wouldn't finish, I went into the house which autosaved.
And, yes, I understand how the marker system works. The house is the marker, not the ogres. But, walking around the house does nothing to the quest log.
I'll just dub this one "bad game design" and move on.

you might still be able to complete it.. the game forces dungeons to respawn every 3 ingame days.. this does not include some NPCs that are unique. but it might just work for the ogres.

I can just see it now. You're on the opposite side of cyrodil, and all of a sudden your horse comes charging through the trees, followed by that darn ogre.
I actually ran into that when I headed out from a quest in the imperial city. A character stated he was going to a different location, and after I puttered around in the city a bit, I fast travelled to a small village. To my surprise, there was the NPC running along the path through the village. I'm guessing the game takes your horse into account when doing fast travel.

I hate it when "good" npcs run around the corner scare the crap out of you and you accidently hit them killing them with x6 damage.

I had the same problem Woody, unfortunatly for the ogre i'd already finished the dark brotherhood line up to the point i was given Shadowmere, that is one MEAN horse (it's usually got wolves and bandits dead before i can pull a blade out) so i was saved from the bug

Thanks hekate.
(For other posters with my problem: you can bring up the input for console commands by hitting the "~" key.)

Sidenote:
Looks like I derailed my own damn thread. **sighs** Guess I'll have to suspend my own account for a few weeks.
Or, to make ammends, maybe I'll just create a new forum category for advice such as this.

Tilde (~) key opens the console up, you'll notice the screen darken a little, and if you type it should show up, it's not overly obvious otherwise.

Demon, you must have posted right after I editted my post. (I remembered how many time tilde has been used in the betas I've been in to make changes to game world, so I tried it.)
The problem I'm having now is that the id's hekate gave me aren't working.
Do I need to change something in the config file?

No, you don't need to edit anything, I'm not sure what the prid command is supposed to do, but it looks like the command to spawn a NPC at you is:
PlaceAtMe <formid>, <number of spawns>,<x>,<y>
so you could try:
PlaceAtMe CB4A 1 0 0
and so on
Actually, I think I see the problem, the ID needs to be prefaced with 3-4 0s (zeros) is the likely issue. I'm looking for those specific IDs at the moment, but that's likely the problem.
Looks like the ID's are
0000CB4A
0003F27D
0003F27C

I'm getting the following error:
Invalid object 'xxxxx' for parameter ObjectID
Where xxxxx is various version of the ID's: 3 zeros, 4 zeros, no zeros, etc.
I've also tried the line with and without commas.
Mind linking your resource?

i fired off a mail to some guys who arew doing modding too ill check it when im back, try sending a mail to tech support too woody and let me know what they say.
also you all may find the below info usefull at some point, obivion like morrowind is all about finding the right balance on the main skill build at the start or it really becomes hard at higher levels +20
if this isnt an issue dont bother im not using it but i hear good things.
credit for this info goes to my forum buddy over on slackers bertey
"Theres a very nice mod that 'fixes' level scaleing in what i think is the best way. It simply puts a cap based on how logicaly powerful a certain type of creature can get, and it can scale with you up to that level, then you pass it.
For example, when you are level 1 most bandits are going to be around level one. When you are level 10 most will be around level 10. However some are capped at level 18, and the most powerful bandits are capped at level 25. So when you are level 30, no bandits will be over level 25 (and most will be a little lower as apparantly there are several different kinds of bandits) Also certain npcs have a static level, such as town guards and important npcs to simulate that there is a time that they are able to kick your ass, and also a time that you will be able to kick theirs=p The arena npcs also ahve static levels so dont try and beat the arena at level 1 =P Actualy, most town type npcs have static levels now. Most of them are level 10.... this does mean any early aspirations to assassinate people may be somewhat suicidal...
Official mod forum post on it is here http://www.elderscrolls.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=297892
Also, the official forums can be kind of slow/broken at times. Here is a download of the mod
http://files.filefront.com/NPCSTATICLEVELe02esp/;4917664;;/fileinfo.html
Works just like morrowind mods you just put it in the data folder and then you turn it on in the launchers data files menu.
Also, this apparantly works with saved games. Though you may want to make a backup save and test it first."

ok the info that i have is that prid is to spawn the actual ogre hence 3 of them.
each prid supposedly being one ogre.
im assuming the dead ones wont respawn so try each one as an individual maybe even to the extent of try/fail/reload/try etc etc.
if anyone else has any ideas feel free to chip in to help, i banged a mail over to a contact at bethseda for you and have popped a couple of mails on the various mod boards however at the moment i think everyone has there monday heads on or something.
Ill keep you posted on any updates, keep it on shelved for the mo if my suggestion of spawns doesnt work out as my understanding is the higher you hand in the better the reward
edit to remove word "mate" i forgot you hate that stuff lol its a brit slang word here :)

im hitting as dead end at the moment im awaiting a mail back from the bethseda guy nothing yet, not helped by the fact my stupid wireless connection is down at home and hotmail is blocked at work BAH
i did actually mess with this last night and added the command of -
at the start if each line, i did the initial one and then - enable and got loads of info on the screen and it seemed to do somthing.
go back to the spot of the ogres and try that and let me know what info you get in the command box.

I first encountered the ogres on day 3 I think it was. I just went back (day 18) and they had finally returned. I visited weatherleah almost every day between.

I've also encountered this problem on my XBox 360 version. Is there any fix for that gaming system?

I had this same bug too (PC version). I searched around and found a reference id of 00094077 for Redguard Valley Ogre Stonewrecker (this is the name that showed up when I looked at the ogres I did manage to kill). Using the console command PlaceAtMe 00094077 (ignore the messages) I was able to spawn another ogre as soon as I exited the console. Unfortunately killing this spawned ogre did not advance the quest. So I did some more research and looked through the quest data using the Construction Set. I found that the Lost Legacy quest id was MS16A. I also saw that I was stuck on stage 30 and stage 40 was the next step. (Stage numbers usually, but not always, increment by 10s). In the console I used command "getstage ms16a" to verify that I was indeed at stage 30. Then I used "setstage ms16a 40" to advance the quest. YAY. I then received a message that the ogres had been defeated and I should head back to Chorrol and update Guilbert. I hope this information will help anyone else stuck on this quest to advance forward.

Not that I can help you finding the ogre but I can offer a story as sympathy.
I greatly enjoyed Oblivion, by the way.
Possible spoiler.
Travelling the roads of Cyrodill I ran across some interesting sites and stumbled onto a vale with special minotaurs and a unicorn. I managed to "rescue" the unicorn from the bovine men and road it around for a while. It had a funny temperment but was manageable. It seems the unicorn doesn't like conflict. If anyone pulls a weapon and begins a fight in its vicinity, it will attack them. It also tended to try to walk back to its vale, very slowly. So, I had ridden this unicorn to some ruins on whatever quest I was on. After allowing it to clean up the goblins I parked it in tight spot in the ruins to delay its departure from the area.
The quest in the ruin took me quite some time. I knew the general direction the unicorn took when I left it so I had hoped I could run along that line and eventually find it as I had done before. When I exited, not suprisingly I didn't see the unicorn outside waiting for me. So I went off on the straight line path it would have taken toward the vale.
I didn't find the unicorn. I tried for some time but had to give up. It just wasn't anywhere to be found. So I moved on. Dealing with it as a mount was tedious anyway with its tendancy to wander away and attempt to beat up the stable hands.
Eventually I found a quest that involved the unicorn and the need for its horn. While the unicorn was cantancerous, I didn't necessarily want to purposely whack it. Still the marker system pointed out where the unicorn was. It wasn't extremely far from the ruin I left it at. So I went to the marker. A land dreugh and ogre were in the area. After defeating them I searched and in the tall grass lay a dead unicorn. Apparently it had walked away from the ruin those many days ago and came across these two monsters and lost the fight. Since the grass in the area was so tall, I didn't see it in my search.
So, I can sympathize with monsters running off. I began to park my horse a ways off from encounters I could see because the NPCS seem to have a particular hatred for horses. It was very annoying to try to fight the monsters off before they killed my horse.
