Anyone see this? I love it!
I know this isn't a normal movie review posted on here, but I loved the book, so I had to see this movie and though, as with most movies there are differences from the book. I found it to be very entertaining and it only gets better the more I watch it.
That and Matthew Macfadyen is a hottie in my book.
So for you ladies who like victorian romance stories, do see this.

For me, the BBC miniseries with Colin Firth will always be the gold standard for adaptations of this tale. I haven't seen anything more than snippets of this movie yet, but Kiera Knightly seems sorta of anemic as Elizabeth, dramatically speaking. She seems to come off as a sullen little girl.

Kiera Knightly comes off as a little more girlish than Elizabeth in the BBC/A&E mini-series. The cast as a whole is a lot more playful, as well. There's a much more rustic feel to the movie.
Part of it is no doubt due to the fact that you're dealing with a movie instead of a five hour mini-series. But part of it is due to the desire of the director to put it in the era in which the book was originally written instead of when it was actually revised and published (Jane Austin wrote most of the novel long before she actually had it published), and English society changed quite a bit in the meantime. So the movie is much more earthy and rustic.
The cast is quite good (it's got Dame Judy, for one thing!). The score is excellent (and should have had the Oscar it was nominated for, imo). And the portrayel is quite a bit different from what most people are used to. Some of it is actually more accurate to the novel than the mini-series, although other parts of it that aren't time related clearly are not (Mr. and Mrs. Bennet are closer than the novel suggests, for instance).
As my date pointed out, Mr. Wickam looks like Orlando Bloom.
:P
And I LOVE the complete change in character (from the mini-series) for Mr. Collins. Both versions fit with the novel, but I think the movie version is vastly better.
If you like the novel, or if you like the BBC/A&E mini-series, you'll probably like the movie as well.

Ooh, there is a mini series?? Wow have I been in a hole, no doubt it came out years ago when I was in highschool.
Yes, I didn't remember Mr. and Mrs. Bennet being so close in the book, and Mr. Wickham does have a resemblence to Orlando Bloom.
I liked that they picked Matthew Macfadyen for the part of Mr. Darcy. He isn't a drop dead gorgeous hunk (those types get old). He is very handsome and I think his lack of drop dead gorgeousness made Mr. Darcy even more appealing.
I loved the man who played Mr. Collins, he was hillarious.

Yes, the BBC miniseries, which also shows on A&E occasionally, is absolutely brilliant. And there's Colin Firth--always a plus. It's 6 hours long, but definitely worth adding to ye olde Netflix queue.
