Well, completely gave up on my latest PC game; Gettysberg. I just can't seem to do well on multi-player or higher difficulty. And the lag in my phone lines seems to be getting a lot worse.

As I've about played Civ 2, Civ:Test of Time, and Alpha Centauri to death along with forays into Pharoah (ick), Lords of the Realm 2, Heavy Gear, and so on it is time to Find Another Game. heh. You can only read or watch so many DVDs, and other than working we are having a very cold and rainy summer so far precluding any outdoor activities.

So far I've avoided picking up any more PC games because so many lack much replay value or are just too frustrating (ie Age of Empires and to some extent Starcraft) or just plain buggy. I've tried a few PC RPGs but the fantasy ones tend to be kind of boring and not very original.

At the moment, I am considering (Win 98SE);
Either Star Trek Armada 1 or 2 (I am leary though as quite a few reviews mention serious bugs.)
STNG; Birth of the Federation
DS9; The Fallen

PC based games for my niece & nephew;
Bugs Bunny Lost in Time
Bugs Bunny & Taz: Time Busters
Dragon's Lair
Looney Tunes: Sheep Raider
SpongeBob SquarePants: Employee of the Month
Taz: Wanted
Disney's Villains' Revenge

Anyone played them or absolutely hated them?

In the interim I dug out the consoles; NES, Genesis, N64, and picked up a few games off eBay for them. Actually, been having quite a bit of fun with some of those new games.

The only game in that list that I've played is Star Trek Armada 1, and I enjoyed it, though I found the campaign a little easy (and I kinda suck at RTS games). And I don't recall having any trouble with bugs in it.

Heh, definate NO to Simcity. I've tried two versions now and both times I had the same problems as with Pharoah; I build the city, people come, then everyone starts leaving or gets diseased which cascades into going broke trying to upkeep a city with no workers or infrastructure.

Space wise I used to have Pax Imperia, so I never got real interested in Homeworld or similar.

I played one of the Baldur's Gate games and it seemed to run OK on this PC and the prior one. Didn't really care for it though.

Console wise I got Simon's Quest for NES and have been playing that some. Haven't decided whether or not I want to retry Ocarina of Time on N64; I never could get past the giant fish level and seemed to have missed getting a lot of items. Most likely I would have to restart completely.

My nephew enjoys TMNT for the NES, but even I have trouble with Castle & World of Illusion for Genesis. Some hard levels in those two.

Birth of the Federation annoyed me for a very simple reason. The game had a system of technology upgrades for colony infrastructure. For instance, you start out at tech 1 farms and gradually research higher tech farms. Then you upgrade your older farms to the new farms.

The problem is that when your farms are at tech 5 and you establish a new colony, you still have to build your new farms on that colony as tech 1 farms and upgrade them to tech 2, tech 3, tech 4, etc...

I just downloaded EVE last night and started to try it. The game is free for 14 days - free download and trial. It might take you days to download it at dialup (551 MB), but the price is right.

if you like strategy games but arent really quick with your hands to play a rts, you could try the advance wars series. you could probably get a used DS and advance wars 1 fairly cheap. the game starts easy enough and even has a very detailed tutorial on the first one. the campaign gets kinda rough but it doesnt just either hand you all the battles or roll you in thumbtacks and gorilla glue and throw you over a cliff. advance wars 2 and DS don't make much sense if you dont play the first one and get a feel for the story. but if you couldnt care less about story and just want a strategy game, skip to the DS. it has the best AI and is the most balanced of the 3
