View Full Version : So I want to check out EQ's Progression Server...

...But I don't have EQ on any of my current computers. I left EQ at about the release of Gates of Discord, and have since removed almost all traces of the game from my desktop and bought a new laptop. Also, my mother stole all my computer games before I moved out, so the hard copies of the games are also not available to me.

About the only thing I do have is the name and password to two accounts, though I only intend on using one.

I thought there was some way to download almost the entire game and just reactivate my account from there, but my brief search this morning came up with nothing.

Can someone point me in the right direction, or should I go out and buy a hard copy of the game? I seem to recall someone saying that they found a bundle pack with all but the most recent expansion as a bargain, and I was considering that.

You can just download the Launchpad file and use that to download any Sony game. I couldn't find the information to set it up specifically for EQ offhand, but that might help you search for it, or just get someone to send you the Everquest patcher exe.

Mind you this will take HOURS, but I did the same thing for CoH. When you gotta play you gotta play :D

In the launcher you can select which expansions to download files for. I suggest you untick everything but Classic, as the progression server will only have access to classic plus a few optional zones, but none of the expansions (which you can then download over time).

I wanted to check out the progression server also. Looks like they now have another one going up at the same time. So its two servers: The Combine and The Sleeper.

I do that with any game I can. I'd rather set a long download and go do something else than to sit there swapping 7+ cd's for some of the larger games.

I plan on checking out the Progressive servers, at least for 30 days. I got an e-mail from SOE saying they'll reactivate my account for free for 30 days. So, I'm going to give it a shot. Hrm, should I roll a gnome wizard again. Ah the days of old. *sigh*

I am currently staring at the EQ progression servers, completely stumped as to what character I want to make. Kinda hinging toward Ranger, but when I mentioned that to my EQ obsessed friends the universal answer was "*NO!*".

Maybe I'll just keep working on my Gnome Necromancer. *sigh*

Any class works, it's not like there is anything bad at these levels. I think Ranger is one class that only gets better these days.

Of note, magic is pretty insane atm, since they bumped the effectiveness of all spells prior to 49, so pet classes are common, and the highest ppl on the server are those with magic in their pockets :)

Actually, rangers really don't shine until Luclin when they get Endless Quiver and Archery Mastery, before that they're not too stellar =-(

I finally went with a Wood Elf Bard. Managed to make him not look too dumb by making him bald. Agnostic, since I can wear illusion masks later on, and I'd like to be able to go anywhere.

Having a lot of trouble kiting, partially due to anywhere from a half second to 90 seconds of delay in game with my actions. The sheer number of people is overloading my 28.8 modem. In addition as far as I can tell, reading and in game experience shows that Sony decided to make all Bard DOT songs not affect any moving targets. The spell remains but does not do damage unless the target is stationary.

While this gives me a bit of extra damage when I'm beating down a single mob, it basically kills kiting for me. I'm hoping the level 12 nuke song doesn't require a stationary target, or I'm going to be really quite sad. :(

Yeah make the ranger and own the hell out of your friends with it hehe - who are they to decide what you want to do or not? :)

A ranger can be really great - it's all down to the player behind it.

EDIT: Oops hehe - didn't see page 2 of the thread but still, if you feel like playing a ranger don't listen to all the ranger-gate negative hype about them - they're just as cool as any other class.
