Since I suck at being a movie critic, I'll try and keep this short and spoiler free...

I went and saw the midnight show of this last night, and I loved it... just as good as the first movie, in my opinion. My only complaint was that it started off a little slow, but it gets much better pretty quickly.

The special effects are, not surprisingly, excellent... especially Davey Jones. The action scenes are well done, and are hilarious... one scene involving Sparrow and a bunch of fruit nearly had me in tears I was laughing so hard.

I was pleasantly impressed with how the story was put together, too... picks up a while after the first movie left off, and does a good job at letting the audience know how the characters have ended up where they are now since then. Which reminds me... this movie is definitely better if you've seen the first one... not just for the plot, but for quite a few of the jokes in the movie. Go watch the first one again, if it's been a while.

Now I just need to wait until the 3rd movie comes out, sometime in 2007 I believe... I need to know what happens next! (The last scene in the movie got some cheers from the audience.)

P.S. ... I want that monkey as a pet! (If you watched until after the end credits in the first movie, you'll probably know why. :) )

Yeah I saw it too. Overall it was pretty awesome just a tad bit long.

Hmm guess I'd better do that... I have watched the movie 4 or 5 times on DVD and not watched past the credits.

If you loved the first movie... heck, if you even just liked the first movie - go see this one!

Fabulous!

I can't wait for next year!

Whatever it was that made the first movie so charming...wasn't there in this one.

The quips were there, the special effects were there, the gags were there, the physical comedy was there, but it just seemed like it was lacking energy or enthusiam or heart or SOMETHING.

It also fell into the classic sequel-trap of "take whatever worked in the first movie and make it BIGGER" to the point that all subtlety (which, ironically, ends up actually being what made it work in the first place) is completely lost.

In good news, Orlando Bloom finally seems to be becoming a better actor.

I'll give it a 6 out of 10. Which means I'll watch it again if it ever appears to be playing in front of me, but it will never go on my list of "movies I'll pay money for."

To be honest....not what I expected, but not in a good Way. The movie just seemed to drag on, and the plot, while there, kept getting skewed all over the place. Maybe it's just me, but personally, I didn't overly enjoy it. Here's hoping number 3 makes up for it....

Ok let me start off by saying the first movie is among my top 10 of all time... right up there with Lord of the Rings, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Gladiator, Excalibur, etc...

I just want to echo what others have said about the second movie. It wasn't a bad movie, but it just didn't have the same flow as the first. Johnny Depp basically ad-libbed and came up with the whole Captain Jack Sparrow persona in the first (it wasn't written as such in the script) movie. In the second, it WAS written that way, so lost some of it charm. Maybe it's just me but Depp didn't seem quite as "in to it" as he was in the first.

Also, as others have stated, the plot was jammed full of all kinds of nonsense which detracted from the flow of the story in my opinion. The first movie had a nice tight plot that worked, and worked well. In the second, alot of the gags and joke sequences seemed forced... making me chuckle but not laugh out loud.

Finally, when it was all said and done I realized I had just sat through a trailer for the third movie. There was no resolution of any sort, which I think is a somewhat cheap tactic. The Two Towers had resolution. The Empire Strikes Back had resolution. Deadman's Chest did not. Yes I realize that it is the middle movie, but it really did end too abrubptly for my tastes...

Anyhow, I give it a 6 out of 10 as well for those reasons. Will I see the 3rd? Most definately... so I guess when all is said and done the movie did what it was intended to do.

That's another reason that I did not like the cliffhanger.. it just kinda felt they unfinished.

And while I loved it, I still felt they weren't really sure what to do with this one. Still very enjoyable.

If you go into this movie realizing that this is part 1 of a 2 parter than you have a better chance of not being disappointed. Nothing gets resolved really except the characters getting together but it stops at a good point.

I highly suggest watching the first movie before you go. I saw it the night before and there are a lot of references to it. I had never seen that final scene after the credits before and it ties in to the new film. You'll be lost on a certain point if you haven't seen that scene. Also there is a final scene after the credits on this one. It may have significance in the third film so stick around for it. As IMDB lists it, you find out the fate of one character. ;)

I just watched it today. I really enjoyed it. I agree about the way Capt. Jack is done in this one. His character just seemed different. In the first, he did a lot of a-hole things, but it was an enduring trait. Most of those things he did seemed to have an ultimate purpose and he seemed to not want anyone "really" hurt. In this one, it seemed much more different. In this one, it seemed like he was doing things strictly for himself no matter what the cost to someone else.
Despite that, I really did like the movie, though. I say check it out.

I definitely enjoyed this movie, especially with all the references to the first movie. I especially enjoyed the CG characters, it is truly amazing at how much detail went into each and every crew member of the Flying Dutchman. Though third movie cannot be released soon enough for my taste. I really want to see how they end the series. Good movie, but like Xenith said if you're going into the movie expecting resolution you will be disappointed.

I'm hoping I will like it better after seeing the third one.

I was somehow bored in this one. And not just a little bored, I mean "star Wars Episode 2" bored. Went out 4 times to get new beer... A shame, the first one was really nice. But in this one the storydevelopment is kinda dull, the ending is a f***ing cliffhanger and the only decent fighting scene is the one on the island pretty much at the end of the movie. But in my condition at this time even two hamster wrestling would have been fun ^^

Thumbs up!

The good: Awsome CGI, excellent story filled with adventure, and - of course - a brilliant Johnny Depp.

The bad: Orlando and Keira are horrible - horrible - actors.

I liked this movie better than the first for really one main reason.. It's the same characters I love in a different setting/storyline. I say this because Shanna has watched the first movie about 23,345,354,578 million times, and I, unwillingly, know every line up to about the middle of the movie by heart. It was refreshing to see the characters doing/saying things that I DIDN'T know.

The graphics were fabulous. The story slowed down at parts, but picked up at the right time. And the ending SUCKED (read: I don't like cliffhangers..). I wanna know what becomes of William Turner and Elizabeth with what happened between Ms. Swann and Sparrow. I also want to know how they are going to finish the 'Boot-Strap Bill' curse. And what of the former Commedore?!

I'm all about going to see the 3rd.

So after I scratched my eyes out and took back what I said about king kong being a bad movie I came home and wrote this.

Now I'm going to bed. When I wake up I'm going to find out where the writers, director and producers live and shoot them.

Hope you all liked it more than me.

I saw this last night, and all I have to say is...

"Where's the pirate movie I paid to see!?"

Instead of a pirate movie, this came across as a chance to show lots of spectacle. And oh, yeah, there were pirates in it too.

The story was decent, but I'm still disappointed in it.

what I expected was an entertaining movie that didn't drag out forever and was not filled with shite.

The story line wasn't half bad, but it just drug on and on. There was just too much going on to enjoy it.

I don't really know how to explain it really, I just would rather scratch out my eyes or bleach that movie stain from my brain.

Maybe my hormones are causing an adverse effect on my ability to gage movie goodness.

Click I loved and will see repeatedly once it comes out on DVD.

I don't trust reviews for the most part. I've seen movies that have been praised up and down, and yet I personally was either indifferent or disliked them. On the other hand, I've seen movies which were trashed by the critics which I absolutely loved.

What I was hoping for was a sequal with the same level of energy and fun that the first movie had... and with a coherent plot (which the first movie also had).
