Kind of an old game i know, but i just finished it and i figured i'd do a write-up.
Well first off, its got a cool story line. The personal stories of characters will often tie-in to where-ever you might be, not to mention the main plot. The main plot leads you on the trail of the current Dark Lord of the Sith, a long time before the events of The Phantom Menace movie. So you get a whole new variety of Star Wars ships and weapons and droids and such.
I didn't really think i could get into the combat system, but its surprisingly easy to get into. You select what attacks you want to use, and your party does their own thing following pre-programmed behaviors. Then the attacks are done by themselves, and the damages are determined by "dice-rolls" similar to Dungeons and Dragons i guess.
You get to cruise around some of the familiar planets like Tatooine and Kashyyk, but theres some that i personally am not familiar with that you get to check out in your little hunt.
And i can't talk about this without talking about HK-47. He is a "protocol" droid that you pick-up in your travels. Now the reason i mention this is because he is one of the best characters in the game, not for plot value, but more for humor. His constant "meat-bag" references have earned him a special place in my gaming memories (and in Scott's at VG Cats who has made a couple of comics featuring HK-47).
Overall, i give it a 10/10. Its very addictive and can keep you playing for hours (i think my final count was close to 40 but some of it was spent trying to sustain life via eating in real-life). It takes Star Wars (pretty good on its own) and RPG (also good on its own) and combines them to make something really flippin' sweet. It uses original Star Wars scores and Star Wars sound-effects so it has the sound, the look, and the feel of Star Wars.
Now even if you're not into Star Wars that much but you do like awesome RPGs, then this is a good game i think. But if you like Star Wars and RPGs, all the better.
So i thought it was really good and i am now starting KOTOR 2 because i thought it would be worth getting.
