So, I recently decided to play some games that I have, but have never touched. Namely, Counter-Strike on Steam that came with my purchase of Half-Life 2... almost a year ago now, I think. Whatever.

Yeh, so, Generally, I suck. I think it may be anxiety from starting a new Online game and being a "newb" in the sight of all these really hardcore gamers. Maybey.

So. Any advice I can get on playin this game well? Levels to avoid, better weapons to use, junk like that. Thanks much for any help that can be given.

I have played CS for forever and a day. Its all about training yourself the correct way to use each weapon. What I would suggest is start out with the pistols, and really work each one(mainly the Deagle) to headshot perfection. From there move on to SMGs and Rifles, etc.

If you don't want to take all that time, just stick to rifles as much as possible. I am a HUGE fan of the AK-47. Awsome accuracy at range, with very controled clicking, and it will shred someone when you know how to spray it, almost aiming at their feet will tear them up fast.

One very general tip that you will get from anyone is control. Shoot in controled bursts of 2-3 bullets per click, and you will see your accuracy SKYROCKET. I am sure you have noticed this already, but when you hold the fire button down accuracy goes to total shite. One last thing, try not to jump when someone starts shooting you out of nowhere. Maybe I am a shaky person, but I can acredit many of the "my fault" match losses to jumping when someone starts shooting me from 10 feet away. Damn surround sound system!!

Hope this helps.

try playing against bots by creating a game on the menu start out with easy then get a feel for maps and tactics then move up in skill of the bots. Save slots are the best. get a weapon combo you like and click savve in the buy menu and you just click on the weapon and it will give you the combo. Find a way of play you are comfotable and maps you like.

The way I learned was at a LAN we used to have around here, keep in mind everyone who played were all hardcore CS players, a friend of mine worked there and was like "Man come up and play CS" so I decided why not?

I was horrible. I mean that in the biggest way possible. I just sucked, I couldn't shoot anyone worth crap, they always seemed to get a headshot on me, I never stood a chance. But seriously, within a week or so of non-stop playing over there, I became what always killed me. I love the Krieg 552 and the Bullpup. Just jump in, pick a gun you think you would like to use, and get to it. All the guns work well in my opinion.

Good luck.

After reading these tips, I reccomend using a high mouse sensativity. Easier to twitch that way, but maybe worse for sniping. I prefer it at least.

Thanks guys, it's really helped.

So, heres my progress report:

Over the few days, all my previous FPS experience (Half Life, Halo, Time Splitters, etc.) has kicked in (kinda) to help me actually be half-way decent. At first, I was the crap player, you know how after a few rounds with 16 or so people the top hardcore player has 40+ kills, the rest have about 15-20, and I have 3. Gha. To put this in perspective, near the end of the round it was me with a Knife kill life bonus (how i managed that i'll never know) some big automatic gun, and full armor against a hurt bot. The bot killed me. :P

Well, I've become one of those 20+ people, good enough to kill, but not good enough to spin around at the drop of a hat, and pop off a headshot to somebody I heard coming out of paranoia.

I mostly use pistols, and one pistol in particular. It's the like 4th one down, white gun with a 7 round clip. Can't remember it's name. When I first enter a game, I buy that gun, some ammo, kevlar + Helmet, and 1 flashbang and 1 explosive grenade, then usually F2 this combo progressively through the level as I die.

I don't like using the rifles or automatics nearly as much, I just can't seem to make em work for me. Accurate weapons like the pistols just come through for me better. Although I won't hesitate to use a bullpup if i pick it up off a kill. Hehe.

So, that's how I'm doing so far. Any comments or suggestions?

And one last question... after I die and go into spectator mode, I watch the really good players pull kills with their rifles, by not even actually shooting the enemy. The fire their automatic somehwhere 2 feet ahead of the guy's torso sometimes and he goes down faster than when I pump 3 rounds of my gun into their head. And their headshots half the time arent' even near the head. or at least the reticule's not. Is it deliberately offset, or am I missing something here? like, lag. /shrug.

Anyway, thanks guys, hopefully I'll get halfway decent at this game sometime soon...

the pistol you were talking abou is the moded version of the .357 mag. to .50 cal it is on of the best pistols in the game but for some reason I have been doing wel with the glock (T standard hand gun) and I would buy that armor and a mp5 for backup and I kill one round I got like 5 kills with the glock it was hilarious.

sorry for the run on sentence I just wok up.

I'm a huge fan of the pump shotgun, AK, and Styer-AUG. The pump requires faster reflexes, because you HAVE to hit on the first shot. The rifles require you to be able to NOT hold down the fire button. You have to learn to tap burst, or shoot semi-auto. in maps where you have to reach a bit farther the rifles are great, plus the added bonus that you can shoot through doors, and the edge of boxes etc. Many surfaces can be shot through with rifles. I also like smoke grenades on certain maps. Not because I use it for cover, but it gets the enemies attention, and I can flank them. If you are on a good team that uses mic commands a lot, I also love flashbangs for the same reason. have someone toss out one door, then run out the other one.

Next question: what's awp? see it everywhere "no awp!" "awp is ok."

is it a weapon or summat?

Yeah, it's a high powered sniper rifle. It's the one that goes "BLOOOM" and it's green. Called something magnum or something, its under "RIFLES"

uh... dont play!

okay okay, short bursts to chest, dont be afraid to use flash nades (unless you have a tendency to bounce them back to yourself/teammates/yourself and teammates)

make use of your headpbones! i have decent headphones, but for some reason i can hear direction in them to the finest detail, make use of that when youre seriously outnumbered, low on health or ammo, hell, use it whenever you can. people might call you a hacker, but at least you killed them!

dont waste your money on an awp, but make sure you practice playing with a scout and autosniper (especially the T one, it seems to me its more accurate out of zoom) since you will no doubt go into a scoutknives map at least once in your play life of this game, i only suggest the autosniper since i find it extremely effective on superhero mods (hey ive killed admins with it, thats always a good sign)

other than that be patient, wait for your enemy, dont rush, and if youre playing music, make it around 40% as loud as the game sounds

ah right, the awp is the Arctic Warfare rifle (dont ask me about the P) and the Magnum Terrorists and Counter-terrorists get respectivly, its the biggest sniper rifle and is just about always a 1 shot kill no matter where it hits.

i STILL dont see why steam and valve kept that stupid gun in, instead they threw in a crappy sheild that can only be used with a pistol
