The demo for Call of Juarez is out. What is Call of Juarez? It is a Western FPS with some jumping puzzles. As far as the graphics is concerned it's about run of the mill(don't expect Fry Cry graphics in other words). The graphics it does have though seems to catch the feel of the Wild West...dust blowing around, smoke from the black powder revovlers, and even a zoom that blurs everything except a small section of the screen where the cursor is pointed at(even blurs temporarily when you move(like eye focusing intently at something).
The A.I. isn't spectacular, but we are talking cowboys and not special forces either. The one thing that amused me was shooting off the hats of the bad guys.
Weapons included in the demo are akimbo revolvers, shotgun, and whip(whip can be used to swing from tree limbs). The left and right mouse buttons control the respective triggers on the pistols. There are a couple of mods of shooting besides the standard point and shoot.
There is a bullet time where the guns must be holstered before entering. When in bullet time two crosshairs start from either side of the screen and move to the center(rember rmb and lmb control each gun). Once they converge your character exits bullet time.
The second mode is probably reserved for bosses. Move the mouse down ,on cue, to draw the gun and move mouse up to aim.
You do get to ride a horse. The controls take some getting used to.
Impressions: I enjoyed the preacher part of the demo(which is the shooting part). It does have some simple climb puzzles. The stealth part(Billy) is a bit of a pain for me, but I'm not too much into stealth type games. The other sticking point a lot of folks have had is the load times. I didn't have too much problems with load times.
I am thinking of getting the full version. It has been a while since I've played a western game(Outlaws was the only one that I played that was any good). It would be a nice break from Aliens, Dragons, or terrorists.
