I didn't know where else to post about this idea, so thought I'd toss it here where I know a lot of gamers are and those that would love to hearken back to older and better days of EQ gaming.

DAoC has a couple of servers that don't have one or two of their expansions, so I was thinking... What if we could get a server or two on EQ that stopped at PoP or LDoN?

I haven't played in a few months, and mostly because when I went back to EQ, I started a new toon to get back into the swing of things. I made a Wood Elf Warrior. After the whole tutorial thing, I went through PoK to Kelethin (was planning on doing my newbie armor/weapon quests), and I saw nothing but guards all over the place. There wasn't a single mob in GFay.

I'm all for expansions, adding new things to the game and all. But EQ has strayed so far from what I thought was fun and enjoyable.

Anyways, just thought I'd see if there'd be anyone else interested in the same kind of idea.

Rashere has already said there are no plans to do a classic server cause they think the current EQ is much better than classic.. though he agrees that the players are too spread out.

So, the next expansion TSS will have a new race and starting city, and any character made goes through the tutorial, then regardless of race of class can choose to start in the new starting city, this way they will hopefully get players atleast the first few levels all in the same area. The new expansion will also have content from 1-75, solo group and raid content, and will provide trainers, skills and spells for at the least the first 20-30 levels, only those in beta know if it will provide more.

Doesn't EQ have a "progression" server? Where expansions are locked out until the server completes some type of event to unlock the expansion?

Kinda sounds like what you are looking for.

Not exactly a classic server or a permanent one but there does are two servers currently running called Progression Servers.

You can read more on it on this thread:

The next expansion is gonna be the test for me...if it successfully minimizes the gap between "uber leet hard core have no life kill kill kill raiders" and the casual (usually casual lightly...meaning the people who play 3-4 hours a day) players I will give EQ another few months to level out..however, if it bombs, or spreads the gap even further I'll be gone...for good..this is after a good 7 years of EQ...I know it's sad so I'm hoping the expansion will hit a home run and bring some sanity to the EQ world...My only concern is the gap is the reason why many joined the progression server and if they fix it on the normal servers I'm thinking it's quite likely the Progression server will loose much of it;s player base...however the progression server is dominated by "uber l33t power gamers" who open up expansions like mad and hit the top before anyone else..there is likly to be a large gap on that server too...what to do...oh what to do
