Now, I like a good surreal book as much as the next internet penguin, but this book is getting to be too much. Can anyone help? The time stream is so fragmented that I never know when I am. I think I'm following the story, but I may be missing some important points. Anyone got any views on this book?

The book is the reason that phrase entered the language. Catch-22 in the book is a rule which applies to bomber pilots and bombadiers. They can only be grounded and sent home if they are crazy. If they are crazy, they have to ask to be grounded. The catch is that if they ask to be grounded, they are clearly not crazy, because they don't want to fly. If they want to fly, they are clearly crazy, but the minute they ask to be grounded.....
See? Catch-22. But the time signature of the book is so jumbeld up...

then why not have somone else ask for you? though im sure running around with no pants on during drill singing "im an oscer myer weiner" will do the trick, ah off-topic, the book sounds interesting, ill look into it, is it a WWII book? when you said bomber pilots that kinda ticked off in my brain

Yeah, WWII. Funny you should mention that, the main character goes around naked for months, and still has to fly missions. The book is frelling crazy. And having someone else ask for you doesn't work, because the superiors just say that you have to ask for yourself. Otherwise it wouldn't be a Catch-22.

I just tried reading this. But I only made it to page 27, it was just too strange for me. The sentence structure, the voice, and everything was just too jumbled. The characters were too quirky, the humor was a strange sort of humor, I never really quite thought it was funny, even though it was an obvious shot.
It was just too weird, so when i was at the airport in Minneapolis (huge airport) i picked up 1984 instead.

WOOT for 1984! My ultimate favorite book of all time. I adore that novel. Yeah, very disjointed for Catch-22. I made it through, but will never read it again.

Catch 22 seems to be pretty hit or miss with most people.

I absoulutely adored it. I thought it was hilarious, and brutal, and believable through all the quirkiness and oddities.

Watch out- Once you lose the story thread, it is well and truly lost.

I haven't read the book YET.
But I did hear from my teacher it's a confusing story, but really funny.
And he told some things, such as when he moved the flag (or something like that).

I did like the bit where Yosarian climbed a tree naked, and confused the life out of the poor chaplain
