Crash Landing
By

Imp (Green Graff)

“What do we do now?” said one raspy machine voice.
“We wait until the opportune moment.” Said another voice. Somewhat less raspy but still mechanical with a feminine touch.
“And just when will that be?”
“Soon enough”

Leeds Star system, LD-14 station

Elsa awoke to the beeping of a com link message. Yawning and stretching she crawled out of bed and tapped the terminal to open the blinds of her small apartment on LD-14. Walking over to the desk she tapped the com screen and opened a live feed from Mannahatten. On the other end of the Com link was her mother.

“Hello sweetie”
“Mom do you have to call me that? I’m not a kid anymore”
“Oooh but you know how much I love you”
“Yes I do” said Elsa, rolling her eyes.
Her mom pretended to take no notice to the sarcasm and continued.
“So how are things?”
“Not to bad. Can’t complain. And you?”
She gave some what of a groan and said “Your father is off on one of his tours for the LSF.”
A man stepped into the background.
“We have a report coming in from Headquarters.” Said the man.
“From who?” Asked Elsa’s mother.
“The President, It’s quiet urgent Mrs. Zane” said the man
“How many times do I have to tell you? It’s Mrs. Trent”
“Terribly sorry Mrs. Zane” said the man.
“Sounds like you gotta go mom. Say hi to Uncle King for me.” Said Elsa
“Good Bye honey”

The Com screen went blank. Elsa got up and walked across the room to her closet and picked out a grayish Omni-Flex jump suit and put an olive green open flight jacket over it. The jacket had the bright and shiny TG emblem of the Trader’s Guild on it. Before she put on the jacket she stared at the emblem. She had been in the guild for about a year now. She joined when she was 18 and willing to do anything to get out into open space. Hearing the beeping of another com message snapped her to attention.
“Hey El!”
“What is it Seeg?”
“Good morning to you too” he said with a smirk
“Its space Seeg, there is not such thing” said Elsa, putting one hand on her hip.
“Oh you flatter me with the formalities”

Seegan Vortex and Elsa Trent had been friends for as long as either of them could remember. When Elsa’s father sent her to LD-14 for studies, Seeg went as far as to put himself in a crate and ship himself to LD-14 as well. The reason Elsa was on the Station was so she could study to one day become a Star Merchant in the traders guild. A Star Merchant can bargain anything with anyone and handles any cargo. Sometimes even illegal contraband. Since Seeg didn’t want to sit around he joined the Traders guild himself and wound up being a transport mechanic. Elsa’s Transport Mechanic. And today was the day she would set out on her own to smuggle, steal, and ship any and all cargo. As was the motto of the Guild.

“Well I prepped the Dashni and she’s good to go” said Seeg
“Really? That’s what you said when we were going on potrol, in the Startackers”
“Hey! Im telling you that was not my fault” said Seeg, recalling the incident.
“Well this is a transport. Its different than a couple of Startrackers” said Seeg, defending himself.
“Yeah. Lots more parts that can fall off.” Said Elsa

They both stared at eachother for awhile and then cracked up laughing.

Recovering from the laugh Elsa said “I’ll be down in a bit”
“K” said Seeg in acknowledgement.

She stepped out into the hall way and walked down to the GravLift. She tapped the Bar icon. Zooming down to the Lounge she checked her wrist-Navi for her account balance. It read 100,000,000 credits. What did you expect? Her Parents are war heros. She stepped out of the Gravlift and walked over to the counter

“Hey Sam. The usual” she said to the bar keep
“One Liberty Fang comen up”

Elsa had a taste for Sidewinder Fang’s and Liberty ale. She found they’re great together in one drink.

“Thanks” she said while sipping the sweet drink.
“Good luck” he told her
“Ha. Like I need it!” she said, dashing out the door.

Back in the gravlift she tapped the icon for Ship Bay #7. The thing aobut Gravlifts is that they don’t exactly always lift you. Since most stations have uneven floor plan, the Gravlift can go in any direction.
AS the gravlift arrived to it destination she stepped out and heard a blast. And then a wave of smoke appeared to becoming down the hall from the hangar. Rushing into the Docking Bay Elsa said

“SEEG! What the hell are you doin to my ship?”

Seeg came out of the smoke screen coughing

“Just a Barrage back fire” he choked out “nothn’ major.”
“Well that’s good. Cause if that barrage cannon breaks I would have been mad.”
“IF THE CANNON BREAKS! What about me? I coulda died ya know!”
“You know im only kidding. If you died then I would be searching for a new mechanic.”

Seeg was only 17 Terra years old. The known universe ran on Terra time. Technically its time in relation to Earth of Old, that way every one is running on the same thing. Thanks to technology, scientists have gotten all planets to rotate at the same speed. Making things easier for everyone. Anyways, back to Seeg. He was the youngest Guild Mechanic but was the most decorated Fixer in all of Sirius. He could fix anything from an Air leak to Battleship generator malfunction. He was the best there is and ever will be.

“Could you remind me why I didn’t just leave you in that delivery crate?”
“Cause we’re friends. Ready to launch?”
“Yeah”
“Let me just fix this rear cannon and we can get off this hunk of metal.”
“And it couldn’t be to soon”

Elsa marched off into the giant Hauler. The Dashni had been a Vangaurd Troop transport converted into a Cargo Hauler. It had 2 giant rear mounted VTOL engines, 9 turrets with no blind spots, and enough cargo space to fit a Heavy lifter and 2 Startrackers along with a bunch of Crew Quarters. Most of the rooms were empty yet still had a few hiding spots just big enough for 10 Alien artifacts in each room. Only 2 of the rooms were occupied. On the door of the room which should have read “C.O.” was a sign which read “El’s Room” and across the hall was a door that had “Head Fixer’s Room” in big green letters written across it. Seeg of course meant it to have duel meanings.

As Elsa arrived at the flight deck ,via Gravlift, she looked around at the polished metal. The Blast Shields were still on over the windows so there wasn’t much light in the control room. Elsa walked over to the Pilot’s chair sat down and opened up the Shielding. She sat watching the super alloy panels peel back form the windows revealing just more metal of the hangar. She looked over at the Co-Pilot’s control panel and saw that the Topside Hatch light was open. As soon as it switched to Close she got a video feed from Seeg while he was walking down the hall.

“We’re ready for take off. Only problem is that the rear turret can’t rotate 360 degrees anymore.”
Ok so this particular Vangaurd has 8 turrets with no blind spots and 1 that can’t turn all the way.

“Oh well we’ll live.”
“So sure?” said Seeg with a sarcatis inquiring tone.

Yeah, I’m sure…….
