Quite a few months back I went looking for an all-in-one headset/microphone combo so I could converse with my fellow WoW guildmates through Ventrillo. The idea was to make raiding quicker. If you don't have to type "charge" (because you can just say it) you're already a half second ahead of the game as it were.
Well, I looked at quite a few models before settling on the:
Logitech® Precision PC Gaming Headset (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/products/details/US/EN,CRID=103,CONTENTID=9523)
There were no open displays available, and I trust most Logitech products. But, in this case, it was an unwise decision. The head set has some style to it. The behind the head design, 220 degree mic rotation, on-cord adjustable volume control, and 10 foot cord appealed to me. But, when I got them home and wore them for more than five minutes, the discomfort far outweighed the cool.
When worn "correctly", the entire weight of the rather large headset rest on the point where your ear meet the side of your head. And where they're tight enough to squeeze your head and give you a headache, they still feel like they're going to slip off. In the end, I wore them over the top of my head. This eliminates the vice like feel, and takes the pressure off of the top of your ear. The downside to this "fix" is that you loose volume because the speakers are no longer in the right place. That being said, the sound quality was pretty good.
The mic has a noise cancellation feature, but it seemed to work too well. I never got it to work in Ventrillo, and when I did get it to register on my computer, I was having to speak too loudly into it. No amount of adjusting the mics position helped with this particular issue.
I do still wear them when I'm working on the comic. But, only because I haven't gone out to get a new pair of headphones yet. I still wear them over the top of my head. And I haven't even tried to get the mic to work after the first couple of weeks of fighting.
The $20 price tag isn't bad; but, his isn't a product I would recommend to anyone. $20 or not.
Comfort: 1/5
Quality: 2/5

Price: 3/5

Overall: 2/5
