...a Wacom Cintiq 21UX (http://wacom.com/lcdtablets/index.cfm). It's freakin' fantabulous, although I've got a crushing headache that goes all the way down to the backs of my knees from trying to get used to the new desk setup. Had to move everything to my largish drawing table, and I'm now using what amounts to two monitors. Handy, I must say, even though I'm probably too old for this stuff. Anyway, the Cintiq got here late yesterday afternoon, and by bedtime, I'd finished this drawing (http://web.mac.com/dawnsartstudio/iWeb/Dawn%27s%20Art%20Studio/Dawn%27s%20Art%20Journal/868168DA-739C-41C5-BF0D-5B0B50B6F4C1_files/cowgirl1.jpg), just using the stylus and the charcoal pencil tools in Corel Painter 9.5. I realize this is incredibly amateurish, but I have NO mastery over this medium yet, even though I'm fairly pleased with how the female figure turned out. (the male was just an afterthought--maybe even inflatable. :P)

You've got to be kiddin me, your work is awesome, and to have done that in the short amount of time you did is great. I can't wait to see what you can do when you "master" this medium.

Is it just me, or are her buttocks rather...Rubenesque?

Dawn White

Hey, Rubens knew a gorgeous ass when he saw one. ;)

I actually just looked at the link for the Wacom, it looks amazing, me thinks you're gonna have a ball with it.

Dawn the Cintiq's are pretty sweet. Yeah?
I played with one at Sigil a few years ago and lusted after one until I finally got one last year. (Atleast I think it's been about a year now.)

I do all the GU coloring on it these days. I'm supposed to write a review for Wacom about my use of it. But, I keep putting it off because I suck.

It's way sweet, Woody. And you SO do not suck. What software do you use? Same stuff for sketching and coloring? Autodesk's Sketchbook pro has been recommended to me, and considering my ambition to do (porno)graphic novels, it might be a good thing. Any recommendations? Should I get the 6D pen?

I want ona those so much!

Woody

I use Photoshop, but I rarely sketch in it. i like having tangible proof of my work, so I still draw and ink the comic on card stock and scan them in.

I've got a 6D pen and don't use it. Doesn't mean it's no good... just means I don't need it for the type of work I do these days.

I just wanted to say congrats though, I love mine and I'm sure you'll love yours, and hopefully it means you post lots of sketches to this forum.

....hope you don't mind busty, sweaty naked chicks....

What hetero male have you ever met who minded busty, sweaty naked chicks?

I know jack about art stuffs. I just wanted to throw in my giggle at the "inflatable" comment ;) Looking forward to more, lady!

Woody

Depends on the sweaty naked chick and the reasons she's "sweaty" and/or "naked".

Example: I'm not fond of that Xyience commercial.

Dawn White

Hm... not being a watcher of tellybishun, I have *no idea* what the Xyience commercial is.

I'll try to keep it interesting, Woody. No gratuitous boob shots, promise. All boobs will have a distinct and obvious purpose for being in the picture frame. ;)

(Kallysti, I'm so glad someone finally 'got' that. You made my day. )

I am so tempted to get one of these. Though, not quite that big...

And thats is great for trying a new way to draw Dawn. I like it.

Kikaro, you might want to start with a Wacom Intuos3 tablet.. it isn't drawing on the screen, but it's a LOT less expensive, and good for your hand/eye coordination. You can also get them much smaller than you can get the Cintiq.. it ONLY comes in a 21" size. You can get an Intuos3 tablet for a paltry few hundred. (note: a few hundred is only paltry in comparison to the couple of thousand-and-a-half this thing cost me.)

I was actually looking at the site where you got it and saw the smaller ones. I think it would be a good way to start. Ive never done anything on the computer so its tempting to try and see how its done.

LOL funny thought. I actually draw better because I use paint and my mouse. But, that's because I can't draw worth beans. Oh well. Enjoy the new toys!

Drew this today (http://www.ebsqart.com/Art/6542/355345.jpg)... No model, no photo reference, all on one layer, in Painter 9.5 on my Cintiq.

I'm about to get another new toy, too... we're going to my folks' house for Thanksgiving, and my terribly wonderful spousal unit is buying me a 17" Macbook Pro and a small Wacom tablet so I can 'paint' a family portrait right there, since we'll be there several days. I'm really excited about that. Those same tools are going to be packing around the country with me next summer and fall, as well. I'm getting my own car, then, and mama is hittin' the road. ;) I'd take the iMac and the Cintiq, but neither of them is very portable, at all.

Thank you all, very much! Also did this (http://www.ebsqart.com/Art/6542/355487.jpg) and this (http://www.ebsqart.com/Art/6542/355735.jpg), to make a three-picture series. They're getting printed, framed, and hung on my wall over the sideboard. I know they're all artsy-fartsy and kinda boring, sorry 'bout that. The next one will have some color, I promise. ;)

Clareon Wolfeyes
11-02-2006, 01:43 PM
Artsy Fartsy! Not in the least! I find them thought provoking.

Kallysti

I love those.

I don't usually like nude art, as I don't get it, but am drawn to these, especially the first one of the three. Very well done!

Bobthepenguin
11-02-2006, 04:17 PM
It's art. It's suppossed to be artsy-fartsy. Otherwise it's not art.
