Whats the earliest GM event you can remember from EQ

I was chatting with a friend of mine who has heard of the 'evils' of Everquest and mentioned Bloody Kithacor (sp?) to him. He had never heard of such things (GM events) happening in a game before. But when i tried to recall any others my foul memory betrayed me so i decided to tap the network and see if we could organize a chronology (sp again :( ). If this is linked anywhere that would be handy too.

I am aware of the website that faked (supposedly faked) up alot of history and was looking for something more formal or just personal. Let me know what ya guys think.

Whoa, wait a second. What is this 'GM'? In all the time I've been on EQ, I have never seen any sign that these supposed 'GMs' exist.

Ahem. The last event I know of was last Halloween (does that count?)..

The most memorable one I remember was that whole plague in Karana thing...

The Battle of Kithicor was the war between Fironia Vie and her paladins and Lanys T'vyl and the dark elves - In the lore, Innoruuk saved his daughters life by ripping the walls of reality between Norrath and the Plane of Hate to save her. This is what the GM event would have likely been -- to herald the opening of PoH. This is also what turned Kithicor into a nighttime undead zone. This story and a few others are on EQ's site under 'Lore'. I missed that one by just a month or so. I started playing EQ about 4 months before Kunark was released.

My Guildleaders were present for Tunare visiting Faydark to request the rescue of FV and a young blue dragon. They received titles for completing quests at that event. I hear it was one of the best.

My first witnessed GM event was in Steamfont just before Velious came out. I dont recall the exact storyline but Mistmoore was there and one of the archers from Fironia Vie's company. It would have been quite a moment but people were being quite rude and the dialog was destroyed by catcalls. I didnt attend events after that.

i actually sat in on some of one last night...
GM was in GFay as a pie goblin who's shovel was stolen by something called The Skercher, and without his shovel he wouldn't be able to farm stuff and make jams to sell in rivervale. And, to my suprise, the people there were actually playing along, instead of trying to kill the GM character...i think the gm got together a group to go find the skercher and kill it, but i missed that bit; had a LDoN to do.


first one i remember was the plague in the karanas. then there was the first big halloween thing, with the werewolves and the Feast of Tishe Vrim (i think i still got a Fungus of Tishe Vrim somwheres...)

There is a fun one that starts in Western Wastes from time to time. A gnome needs to be lead from the ship to the gnomes in Iceclad. He can't be ported but has tinkered armor that has limited charges of invis, sow, etc. Usually starts with a few players helping him and more add to the train as they go through more zones. If he makes it he hands out rewards to the ones who started or made a significant contribution. I got a tink bag out of it but he handed out several other good items.

The only GM event i have been to(or seen) was a small one, where a Skunk named "Stinky" with supper fast speed, crazy spells( mostly zone teleporting fears ) ran all through the Wayfare Camp in BB - I did about 1k damage to him while he was stunned...didn't go below 99% - anyway...thats my 2 cents of a GM event

Arent they only on the legend server? Well there was a royal rumble thing that only 50 plus level chars could go to, they payed 100 plat per level and then winner gets the pot. It was for a mod guy who was retiring but of course im not high enough to go.

They had rumbles for every level on Innoruuk, when I was there. I would have one, but four rangers teamed up even though it was against the rules. I can take three rangers, but four? That's just too much DPS.

All I remember is a big Halloween event, and this event involving Lanys and Innoruuk in Rathe Mountains that the roleplaying guild I was in at the time took a big part in while I was trying to find where the thing was. Damn Rathe Mountains.

I have seen three GM events, one was back in the day, after a port to BB, we (guildmates and i) saw a huge skelly. We procided to to smack him down, but the dude jetted faster than even my bard speed. It was crazy watching him run so fast. Second one was in DL. Bunch of GMs became drachnids and were really touch. I couldn't even scratch them, but at least i didn't get an exp death when they killed me. Last GM event was 2 weeks ago. Basicly a GM started doing some broadcast messages throughout my server and it lead to a zerg rush on trak in seb. We didn't even see any GM controlled chars, just messages from some lord somethingorother (can't remember exact name).

there was one back when i was level 12 doing my stein of moggok quest and was running though EC and there were three bears mamma bear, pappa bear, and baby bear. hehe they dropped some bronze and leather gloves.

I remember vividly being killed by hundreds of infected scarabs during the Karana event a while back. Also, recently, a bunch of werewolfs started spawning in West Commons. They dropped some meager loot (nothing special, nothing for warriors). Also, I took part in an actually successful PC quest. One involved running around PoK after a frog; after that, you'd have to say a certain phrase to him and he gave you a prize. Also, my guild at one time hosted a tournament in the Bazaar Arena with some pretty nifty end prizes.

All in all, EQ has done fairly well with GM events

The only 'GM event' I've ever been apart of was when a guildmember and I were checking out Nedaria's(sp) Landing, the new zone by Jaggedpine Forest. We were chasing some sea turtles when I thought we'd better head back to shore, as we had been swimming for awhile, and we didn't want to get lost out at sea. So I tracked the closest land NPC, and started swimming. I made it to shore first, so my guildmate put me on track and made her way to me, meanwhile, I was sitting on shore looking towards the shore. Then a GM (with green name tag and all) and an apprentace came up behind me, and the one said, "Catching anything?"
I replied, "Nope, just my guildmember!" As I said that, my guildmember just popped up on shore. Perfect timing.
The GM, suprised, said, "WOW, nice catch!" And gave my wood elf with 4 Alcohol Tolerance a stack of beer, then said, "Can't go fishing without the brews!" Then they took off doing there thing.

It was really fun, but nothing extremely special. I have some screenshots of them too.

Hmm not sure seen a few but I thought the steamfront/mistmore one I remember happened before even kunark, anyway I tried to go to it but kept lagging out so left not too long after I heard the GM got ticked off and Gravity fluxed the whole area if I recall right.

The only GM event i have seen was actually over, i went to PoK on Halloween and there were OtterCorpses around the nexus stone...

I have met 1 GM on MorellThule and 1 on SullonZek.... and (get this) both time were with LvL 6 characters, a bard and a Rogue (both are named Sanenah)... just a lil bit O'Crazyness

The first GM event I remember being on for was back when I was around lvl 19. Firiona came into LOIO, and a few other zones, and started shouting for heros to help her defend her city from attackers. A bunch of people showed up, and an army of drolvargs lead by a Drolvarg General attacked the city. I managed to live trough it somehow. FV then rezzed all the fallen, and handed out some loot, but I can't remember what, it was too long ago.

Most GM Events i have seen arent a "Kill the GM char" type thing. its just Idiots in the zone that start whacking the GM thinking he/she has loot, and its a bolder effect. everyone starts, and te gm event goes to pot.

on the topic note, i think the first one i remember was in oasis. the GM's popped as specters and only people 25 and below could hit them. was kinda funny seeing the swarms of lvl 10's drop their alligators and start beating on the specs. (normaly they drop the gators and run for the zone lol)

i can remember other halloween events, seen some in Gfay but i was an ikky at the time. and didnt want to go near the town.
i dont see many now that i live on test. see lots of GM's and guides, but mostly they pop in to say hi and chat for a bit.

i guess the last one would be the giant monsters in WC for the opening of the combat skills. that was fun killing the giant orc. took 2 hours lol, only dropped a scalp lol.

Once upon a time, my young Paladin was making his way from Freeport to Qeynos. (I think I was working on Soulfire actually)
As he got to Misty Thicket lo and behold what did he find, but a smiling Lord Bristlebane dancing and capering around.
Soon did a host of players and PC's did appear knowing that a GM event was soon to be near.
A scavenger hunt the good lord did have on his mind, things from all over the globe to find.
To each level a difficulty was set makin the reward not so easy to get.
The the words, on your mark, ready, set did flow and off to Eastern Wastes I did go.
To claim Uthork tusks was the task and I enlisted help from a passing Elf and Halfing lass.
But one tusk was found and four were required when Bristlebane returned and boy was I fired.
I was sure I had lost my one and only hope, to partake in dealings with Gods and GM folk.
Brsitlebane laughed and said I am the god of games and chance said he and paying the game is enough for me.
So he took his tusk and I got my reward, a bag of 10 slots in wihich items weigh none at all.
Then he said just one more thing and cast a quick spell, lo and behold my companions and I were Halflings as well.
He waved again as was his way and disappeared not to be seen again that day.

I hope you have enjoyed my 'The Night before Christmas' inspired doggerel. It was completely spur of the moment and done of the fly.

I love GM events, and i know that people want more GM events, and i suspect that GMs would love to do more...but the problem is the players. whenever something starts, you'll have people come in and do their damndest to disrupt it for whatever reason, be it to be a jackass, to get "fat lutes" from the gm or whatever....

I remember Bloody Kithichor on my old human paladin. That night was pure evil, I must have died at least 15 times or so. I actually got a really cool breastplate from that night and made alot of my firends jelous.

I remember like back before pop came out there was a gm event in dl. I was there with my bst killing doggys. Big ol named doggys that everyone was trying to take down
very crazy thing i died so i got a cs rez.. it was cool they had the named dogs shouting how wussy we are :P Everyone who was there were taunting the dogs back it was roleplaying for once, rping on an eq server! who would have thunk it? :P
it was more fun beating the snot out of the gm controlled mobs than getting the gear off them.. not that good gear anyway :)

I can recall one early on in 1999 when I was still below L20. A VERY giant sized skeleton king invaded NRo and Oasis. Dozens of mummies and such spawned, lag was immense.

I have also seen the blue dragon event in Steamfont (happened to be leaving Mistmoore when it started) that signaled the launch of Velious.

The only other historical event I saw, I actually participated in, where a wizard was awarded an artifact from Al'Kabor himself. I got a dandy ring that is unique (but not flagged as an artifact) and now looks like chump change.

The original Halloween event was a lot of fun (and my group was the first to find the last item in East Karana, and accidentally reset the zone), as were the other zone alterations. It is due time they did a new one, rather than sporadic, outdated mini-quests like the old "boxing giants".

I know the one that you're talking about offensivename, I actually got to participate in that one, but not from the side you guys saw... at the time I was a novice guide on Fennin Ro, and I got to play one of 3 of Cazic's Captains of his armies.. it was a blast, getting to take on and or fight alongside the gods. After that, I was in quite a number of the GM/Guide events, lots of them the "Kill a gm/guide disguised as a creature who's really hard to kill etc" And even a part of the Event where they gave out the Hammer of Brell Serilis...

Those were the good old days =P

i've taken part to some events in my Eq life, but the one i remember the most is one that involved Mistmoore, Lfay, Steamfont and Dagnor's. This might be the event dadwen was talking about. Happened on Vallon Zek.

Twas before Kunark. I remember it well because at that time "high level" people were still camping the Steamfont watchmen for xp. I was a dark elven rogue named Ruurk, lvl 9. That day me and some guildies decided to raid Faydwer. We set out from Neriak, 2 inkies and 2 ogres, took the boat to BB (and got into a skirmish with players on the Sisters Island in OOT). The landing went rather well, and we scored a few kills while advancing towards CB. There we found the place ravaged by gnomes (gnome raids on elven lands were a national tradition back then) so we decided to move to Steamfont for better prey (there were lots of people lvling in Steam, mostly kiting soloers *grin*). So we arrive in Steamfont, manage to kill a druid (in wolf form, the good old wolf form graphics) and then we get some strange text indicating that a storm approaches Steamfont. First reaction (as most of the time i've faced such circumstances [sp?]) "Uhh did you guys read that?".
Then the storm finally hits Steamfont, the gnomes run for their lives and hide into the city, lightning falls, thunder strikes, and something happens in Lfay. Something about a statue appearing where lightning had struck i think. Then lo and behold i see a drakelike creature named "a young dragon" flying quietly next to the mills. Red con. I must say i almost wet my pants there (it was indifferent, but i didn't see that on the spot ;)). I literally fled screaming towards my companions. There were shouts about a dragon near the city entrance, so we invised and went over. And there was a dragon there, killing the watchmen, standing on the first crossroad on the road that goes from the entrance, where a guard usually stands. There were already alot of people around it but everyone kept their distance (and was way too busy to notice the 2 dark elfs and those 2 fat asses sneaking behind them :P ). Then we sent tells to the high lvl peeps we knew. Right after that invis wore off and i got smashed by a guard. :(
When i got back to Steam there were 100+ people in the zone, and lots lots of them were lvl 1 gnomes ;). Everyone was hitting the dragon who was invulnerable (altho it did fall to the ground, but was still targetable and full hp). The dragon had an AE attack, and the corpses were piling up under it :) A short time afterwards Myong Mistmoore and his lieutenant showed up. He exchanged a few words with the dragon and then killed it. Unfortunately i was busy losing some lighties into the wild at that time so i didn't catch the conversation. Then Mistmoore said he might need some help in Dagnor's and went off (along with at least half the zone's population heh). Now this was during US time, so here in Europe it was almost 5am so our party decided (after some heated discussions and the occasional lightie interruptions)to retreat to Neriak and log off. Luckly for us the halfling druid i literally worshiped (she was 30+!!! :D ) was in BB and kindly ported us to WC.
In Dagnor's Myong asked the players to find a dwarf rogue. Mistmoore wanted to hire him for a mission in Lady Vox's lair i believe. I do not remember the details, but the reward went to one of the most hated pkers on Vallon at that time, a human druid whose name eludes me. He was given a vial of Myong's blood, which changed his base resists to 90 and got him indiff to Neriak (and perhaps Mistmoore too, i don't remember). I think this created some heated discussions on the VZ boards (aah the good old VZ dramas) too.

That's what i remember about it, and while it may not be 100% accurate anymore i still recall it had been a blast. Sorry about the lenght but this brought back lots of memories ;)

I've taken part in a few GM events.

One involving the summoning of Innuruuk in Neriak, with me a druid of 45...started in oasis and ran around from neriak to befallen back to neriak...Rp'd the whole thing as a spy for kelethin....but told gm's i was an evil druid of the Unkempt. Didn't win anything because i got chased out at the last bit...but hey it was exciting.


2nd was with my Warrior dwarf Kellogs.
Summoned Tunare with Fironia vie and other newbies. Then Cazic thule barged in and killed tunare's avatar...Then we all attacked him and he died (i was lvl 9) he was very weak version. Then the zone went evil. for helping fironia kellogs was named the earth keeper. and given a token which he turned in for a Thexian Loop (Haste earring with 5 ac)

I remember old time while all thought oracle robe was one of the best item for caster ... I was a druid around lvl 20 or so and while I was running to Oasis to make some exp I see in oasis and there were like around 50 Sand giant in oasis!!! they were running all around the water that was pretty crazy! and more than that... Crocodile keeep spawning.. make the best lag u can get! anyway... I didnt killed one cause I was laging so much so I get back and loged lol

Another one was while I was camping the Hero in steamfont... a GM make a broadcast about a f00l gnome that was working on something crazy there... 5 min later there was 100+ player in the zone and the story about a gnome that make a giant mechanical spider and after the spider was going to be evil and attacked the gnome whit like 50 other mechanical gnome... the mechanical gnome droped some nice firework lol and the spider droped a 1H blunt weapon ALL ALL 1 damage 1 delay effect: haste lol I wish if I had it..

Anooooother was in Lake of III omen and there were a GM in barbarian fisher who shouted that he want to get back a coin that a sea monster stole... lol when I arrived to help him whit my 55 ranger he said: get back... your too strong the sea monster fear you!... so a 35 monk come and then the sea monster poped and I was healing da little monk... ya funny fight cannot hit the sea monster but I can heal lol... after 3 try he finally died and droped a fishbone earring and some fine steel long sword... when the GM get the coin back the monk receive a nice Silvery belt of contention and the warrior (who helped at the 3th try) a hammerhead helm.. well was funny

First GM event I witnessed was in Oasis of Marr and OMG it was scary!!! SPECTRES EVERYWHERE!!! I was like lvl 16 and I hid in the hut near the beach and one peeked in on me and I almost wet myself! Man those were the days!

Also got screen shots of when Cazic was in Lfay and Firiona was there and we got to battle him to save Estrailezel (sp) the unicorn but she still got poisioned **/cry** and became corrupted.

OH YEAH and the stoopid chickens raided all of the Dreadlands! They were being lead by a chicken named Captain Cluck or somthing, rofl! Hundreds of um everywhere!

There are a few more but I cant remeber much detail like one in TD and another to do with two named orcs with hella HP.

The first GM event I remember was back in 99 on Halloween. Skellies took over QHills and it was constantly raining blood. Since then, they have done something like that every Halloween, but it was fun none the less. Think I was around 9-10 back then.
Tadashya I was also at the spires in GFay for the presence of Tunare, it was pretty sweet.

The earliest one I can remember was while I was leveling up in Dreadlands with my monk.. we was somewhere around level 35 at the time and I was pulling multi's for my group when I run into a miniature Yeti running around near the ruins. I go to pull him and even before i get up to him he turns around and starts chasing me. I try to lead him back to my group but he was running so fast that he was able to catch up and begin throttling me so I attempted to FD him off, which worked. He ran off and began harassing other players only for me to get up from FD and notice that there were literatlly like two dozen of these miniature Yeti's running around attacking players. Was hilarious.. so my group ran away from the NE Ruins and we hunted down one of them only to find that it must've had like 10k hit points because we were hitting it forever and not doing a damn thing.

Was really fun none-the-less. :)

My first GM event was in Lake of Ill Omen. I was hutning with soem friends and all of a sudden the sky went red. The sarnaks had waged war with everyoen and at the time I was right inside the fortress. And much to my groups surprise hundreds of sarnaks poured out of the fortress and proceeded to wipe out everythign in the zone. It was crazy! We ran for our lives and failed as they were way more than we could handle. The leader took a very long time to be killed. Some super fun.

Another one was where everyone on the Oasis got turned into dwarf females... Funny as hell.

I also recall the undead waging war with the commonlands, and Breana the GM on our server turnign everyone in the Nexus into crocs. She was pretty cool. We talked for a while while she tormented people. Such power. I wish I could have it. She let me duel her. She had crazy gear of course so I couldnt even scratch her and I was level 65... Heh.

I remember when I was a guide one event we did was a duck walk in pok. It was funny because there were three of us all crouched down walking around saying quack. Oh those were the days. My fav though was the pirate apprentice event. Nothing like two pirate gnomes trying to teach another how to be a pirate.

I remember a faerie named "The Gnominator" spawned in GFay once (Before Bazaar was working). The faerie just spawned near bank and casted an AoE that changed everyone into Gnomes. It then flew down to PoD lift (And Gnominated anyone who passed it) and began to Gnominate newbies. I got gnominated at bank and declared myself the "first gnome beastlord" :p

Then a wisp spawned (Forgot name) somewhere beneath Kelethin and was working to the PoD lift. Anyone who hailed it got degnominated. But then the two met at the bank and got into a big Gnominate/Degnominate battle. Went on like that for 30 min :p

Only one i remeber was when i was about 30 in ill omen pre-velious and some GM was having fun imperonating godszilla hehe there were about 60 people trying to kill him! it was a blast.

But the funnest i had in EQ was when we were in gunthark in the mines and we found the one mob with a bahzillion hp but no extra attack or anything. Had a blast fighting him for 3 hours, actually had to go AFK for a half hour for smokes and drop my g/f off at work when i got back there were 2 new people fighting him not in our group helping us we all had a blast good good memory :D

The ones I remember were, The bloody battle of Kithicor, The karana plague, The lfay battle between the avatar of fear and the avatar of tunare in which avatar of fear won and for a few weeks lfay was turned into a mini plane of fear so to speak.

Then the weapon of malovence (spelling??) and Lanys trying to achieve that weapon but in the end she died in neriak third gate by the avatar of hate and taken back to plane of hate. Then the dark elfs in mount rathe when mayong mistmoore was on his rampage looking for lanys. that's all that comes to mind currently.

The orignal skeleton army... the 5th anniversary of EQ was one of the earliest I saw. Once in the Bazaar was an event where there was 200+ lvl 60-65s trying to kill a GIANT gnome. That was cool. I dad threw his Berserker (who was 25) in the mix. They got it down to 5% health in 6 or 7 seconds and the thing Complete Healed instantly. Was that way for about 15 minutes. Then it gated away to never be seen again.

Saethori, GMs are people who help you out when you ding lvl 10 and then some jerk ports you to Cobalt Scar (where you die... duh). And the only expansions you own are the one in EverQuest Trilogy... happened to me. That was NOT fun. lol

I've seen GMs in game alot. Not helping me. I am just in zone (or zoning in) when I do a /who.

I can remember during the end of beta where the gnolls attacked Qeynos and there were 2 giant gnolls along with many small ones out in Qeynos hills.

My favoite ones were the first halloween ones where they transformed Rathe Mountains and had the undead dragon running around and had the woman laughing evilly in the background.

my first that I remember was a sand giant vs. Ice giant in west commons on nameless server, a gm controlled each giant, and after one of them died everyone killed the living giant and got the loot, I was lower level at this time cause game had just come out but was good fun.

Other one was the opening one for kunark, when the iksar emissary walked through butcherblock from the boats to felwithe to talk to the king, was alright but basically it was 50 people following the iksar as he walked very very slowly to felwithe :P oh well

The first GM event I can remember in EQ was a fishing tournament, held by live GM's too. They gave out special fishing poles and bait. "Zalambus the fashion gnome" (GM) comes to mind. I also remember tons of live GM events in commonlands area, such as mass invading skeletons, werewolves, and even GM controlled Ice-giant vs Fire-giant that players could pick sides and attack the opposing GM.

I actually was part of 2 Gm events.

The first one was when Firona vie came to Lesser fey and meet the unicorn. Firona needed an escort and then picked 4 people to "cast" spells to bring the avatar of tunare to that plane. I got chossen and was the element of water. Ended up cazic thule showed up. It was fun I got to role play my paladin out and even got a title out of deal.

2nd one was escorting the gnome from westeren waste to iceclad. Was pretty easy and he invised himself all way through kael so no real danger there. Think that was the last GM event they had.

Anyone ever know what happened to the quest team that ran the events early on? I did some digging and found out and if you want to know pm me. Its 2nd hand info so I will not post it as I don't want to push the rules and it could be just rumor.

From my experience from my time as a guide, ( wich was in the last year) there are GM events going on all the time. The thing is they just aren't announced serverwide. They would just pop up in a zone unannounced. There are a lot of events that the guides can choose from to play out but then again not every server has a good guide program going on it to get events going all the time.

My first GM event took place in Chrushbone, around December of 1999. A bunch of friends and I, a level 10 Ranger at the time, were in there, trying to cull the Orc population while a few "high level" people were hanging out buffing us newbs. Apparently Ambassador D'Vinn took offense to their presence (mind you they were in their late 20's to early 30's) so he and his 3 "Bodyguards" went on a rampage. They hit in the 30's to 50's and proceeded to take out all of us newbs. The "high level" guys zoned out, regrouped and came back in force, about a full party. We estimated the bodyguards were level 25, but gave no experience once killed and they only dropped rusty longswords.

The earliest I can remember is the Lfay event with Cazic, but i also remember having to log halfway through because somone needed the phone :cry:

Most fun was the first Hallowen events in Karana/Rathe mountains I think, just because they went on for so long and were so popular on RZ. OOCing locs of drops, People becoming KoS when they tried to do the quest that reset the zone; it was a blast!

Did the Lfay Tunare/cazicthule event :)

was great, my warrior got Earthkeeper title from it...still has it to this day

he was lvl 10 at the time ta boot and took on Cazic :) that was a fun time.

My first GM encounter was very early on prob in 1999. Chatted with Aradune in his fancy green armor outside of Qeynos with my then lil lvl 8 or so rogue.
I was also around for the fateful Bloody Kithicor battle although I missed some by being told by some GMs that they needed people to stay back & guard the castle in Highpass.
More recently, prob 5 or 6 months ago there was a drake that lost her eggs to orcs in Greater Faydark & my lil ranger tried to find some to help out. My honey found one & received a special bag as reward. Later I ran into a GM high elf in the bank & spoke politely to her & she gave me milk & cookies. Yummy! :D

Earliest one I can remember was on St. Patrick's day. A couple gnomes were going around, dressed in green and speaking like Irishmen, giving out Gnomish Spirits.

A bunch of GM controlled named hill giants ran amok in Rathe killing all the farmers, took about 2 hours to assemble enough players to take them all out.

Was a fond memory.

The first one i was ever a part of was when i was in oasis. All these zombies started crawling out of the water and attacking everyone, shortly after they were killed a friendly Spectre came in and started handing out prizes until a bunch of high levels started attacking him and he had to run.


Most GM events where the GM tried to do a little roleplaying seemed to end because everyone would just start attacking whatever it was. Really dissapointing.
