little truble with IE on laptop
For a little while my wife has been having trouble with IE on her laptop, I've done the standard things: disc cleanup, delete temp and browsing files, ran Norton and Spybot, even disc defrag.
She has no trouble with any of the e-mail funtions or any other laptop functions. I THINK it is the ISP at fault and not her laptop but not too sure. She has aGateway MX6025 with a Celtron M processor (1.39GHz ) and 760 MB ram. With Windows XP SP3. Any ideal's? or am I forgeting something ? |

It freezes up when IE is opened up.
It will show a white window and will not show the homepage. The most it will show is the blue bar at the top. On a side note, I do notice the error report does take up ALOT of the processor power, I normally stop the process and this does help the comp run, but does nothing for IE. |

Try an alternate browser and see if the problem persists.
Chrome, FireFox, or Opera are your standard alternative options. |

Got "The Vista" don't you? IE8? Try going into IE7 emulation mode. I know of several people who had this issue with Vista IE8. Apparently its new better rendering still has some kinks in it with whatever version those people (and potentially your wife) are running.
The other option is a virus/other type of infection. If you know pretty well when it started happening you could do a windows system restore back to a point before that time as part of normal virus scan. I suggest AVG Free from Grisoft. If you don't have system restore available for whatever reason, at least do the virus scan with AVG. Norton is not very good. Radial's suggestion about using Firefox is a good one either way. At the very least you'll have a separate browser to go to (should be your primary) except in the very rare case that you NEED Internet Explorer. |

Go into control panel, internet options, Advanced tab and "Reset". Open IE8 and see if that fixes the problem.

OK I'll try that Lithale, I forgot about that little bit
.I just really hate to have to remove IE from her comp, I don't think she would like the other browsers. |
