Except that there are only two times in GU's 10 year history that I used a joke that's already been told on the forums. So when you have an idea that you think will work for GU, it's best to send it to Stormy or me via email or PM.

Clearly he does not have The Force (SW:ESB reference)

How about in the next panel a penguin buys it and the employee says "he just got the last copy" then leaves ted hanging with nothing to do.

OH, and then the harness snaps and he falls to the ground with a <Thump!>

Haw! that would be funny.

LazerFX, why is it you feel Ted "doesn't learn"?

Interesting question. I just get the impression that, like many who are somewhat socially maladjusted (And speaking as someone who knows they are borderline asperger with definite OCD, it's from personal experience) he has difficulty interpreting the worlds rules as they fit to him... Things like, "You buy a product on release, when it's released, and wait in line / pre-order it".

Of course, since he's a comic caricature of the gamer stereotype, things go a lot further than they would in the real world...

So why doesn't he learn? Well, example is the comic on 20050401 (I've just had a search, and can't seem to find the BBCode for adding a link to a comic - I'm probably just being blind :P), the sequel to (I think?) the first appearance of Ted in the sneaking suit... it's pretty much the same situation, he tried to sneak out (in that case) Splinter Cell, this time it's Starcraft II... the social rules don't apply, but he fails each time.

Of course, I'm over analysing something that's done for comedic effect, so I'll shut making a fool of myself now - it's too late, and my brain works in odd ways when I'm tired - I usually try to philosophise without any logic...

I've never seen it like that. Refusing to blindly accept and abide by societal rules, Ted lives in the moment. From my perspective, and remember I'm only the creator, he seems to fail intentionally. "Sneaking" into Rhino in a black outfit, in full daylight.

I also don't see him as a caricature of the gamer stereotype exactly. I see him as a free spirit, not bound by convention, who happens to also be a hardcore gamer. His dismissive view of what is expected of him is part of his character, not a product of his hobby.
