I guess it's possible. **shrugs** (1/3)
Research and Markets, a business analyst firm in Dublin, Ireland, released an examination of the gaming industry. Their research centered around the next gen foot race. One of their conclusions: Sony will sell 75 million PS3's worldwide by 2010. Source: Gamespot [ more info ]
Now, I don't want to seem doubtful. It's certainly possible. I mean the PS2 has sold over 110 million units; but, they did it in six years at half the price. I'm also not certain that I'm qualified to disagree with "the world's largest market research resource". It's just a gut feeling. Math: [edited for more accuracy and less "wow"] ((75 million - 1.2 million) / 3) / 52 = 473,077 consoles per week And what IS the Irish for bullsh**t? "Tarbhcac" was the closest I could find but I figure that's just a bastardized, over-literal translation. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Woody is wearing "Sharp is Relative" shirt fromThreadless.Com. |

Interesting.. where did you get your numbers?
Since they say by 2010, I figured in for 2007, 08, and 09 sales. I came up with (75mil - 1.2mil) / (52weeks x 3 years) = 473077 consoles/week Which still seems like a lot to me. |

Shouldn't that 36 be a 52 since there are 52 weeks in a calendar year?
Which would be 473,077 consoles per week. |

Yeah, I hate it when people come out with statistics like that.
I asked my Irish girlfriend (She's from Cork), she doesn't know. She said she doesn't think there is such a word in Irish. If the PS3 was the same price as the PS2 when it came out. Yeah, I can see it doing that. |

He's doing 75 million - 1.2 million units divided by 36 months (12 months times three years) divided by 4 weeks per month. Still works out, just a bit different answer since doing 4 weeks per month comes out differently from 52weeks per year. Still, it's close enough. Not that much difference when you're working with numbers that big.

Well, I looked up for "the word" in Irish. No dice, it seems like "such a word" doesn't exist in that language.
