As of Sony's June 19th shareholder meeting, Ken Kutaragi, "father of the PlayStation", will be retiring from his position as chairman and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment. Current president and COO, Kazuo "Kaz" Hirai will be promoted to take his place becoming president and CEO.

To me, the move from Kutaragi to Hirai is not one to be celebrated. Both have track records for shoving their feet directly in their mouths particularly in all the jibberish surrounding the PS3 release. Kutaragi is the guy that let us know that the PS3 was "too cheap" and Kaz has a wealth of sound bytes that make my gaming skin crawl.

Typically I would issue a statement of hope wherein I wished Kaz the best of luck and try to reassure everyone by saying "maybe the position will calm him down". But, Hirai has replaced Kutaragi in a Sony power position before and it hasn't tempered his mouth yet.

Meh what the hell? Good luck Kaz. Maybe taking on the position of president and CEO of one of the most recognizable brands in the world will calm him down and he'll figure that what he says actually has an impact.

The honorable thing would be for the outgoing CEO to commit seppuku and go out in a blaze, but hey, the times have changed. Maybe Japanese entertainment is slipping in quality as their auto manufaturers are stating is happening with their autos.

Seriously though, nothing wrong with enthusiasm. Weird creepy enthusiasm, but enthusiasm none-the-less.

I used to buy Sony left right and center. Lately I'm looking at other brands. The only Sony item at home atm I'm happy with is my TV. My digital camera came out flawed, DVD players are too expensive, not to mention the PS3, or the PSP... A change at the head? They're all the same: inflated by their own egos and earning too much. Oh, and they seem to be living in a fantasy world only they believe what they say. Bah. Double bah.

I hate playing Devil's Advocate, but they are selling the PS3 at a loss due to a few different technologies that they decided to incorporate... But 500-600 dollars is not cheap and nothing to scoff at, and his publicly stating that it they were selling it too cheap was totally out of line, regardless of how much money they are losing on the PS3 Pricing.
