What happens off panel stays off panel. (10/2)
Have you ever been sitting at your computer, gaming so hard you've actually hurt yourself?
Now, I've never strained a muscle or anything. But, when I'm working or playing at the computer, I typically sit on my left foot. If I'm overly focussed on what I'm doing, this can put one or both of my legs asleep without me realizing it. This has caused me to drop to my knees once (a long time ago) and has resulted in me rolling one of my ankles on several occassions. Headaches, eyestrain and sore wrists aside, I'm sure there are some great "while I was playing an MMO" injury stories out there. This is me asking you guys to share them. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Woody is wearing a "Piggy Bank Heist" shirt from Threadless.Com. |

Shoulder strain from using my left arm across my body to use the arrow keys so much on WoW. This is the only non normal I can think of at this point.

I sit on my left foot too, so I always have my legs fall asleep. Other times, I will trip on the dog who sits right under my chair and sleeps when I game. She has caused me to hurt myself a few times actually.
Good times. |

I'll admit that in my last marathon gaming session (My need for the Stupid Disgusting Oozling pet in WoW, outweighed my common sense) I some how injured my thigh. It's been over a week and when I sit in my gaming chair I can feel my leg cramp up after a few minuets. I have no clue as to what happened, but I haven't been on my PC more then ten minuets because of it... It sucks getting old

I almost constantly put my legs/feets asleep.
There is this thing that has happened to my legs recently (like the last 3 months), that makes my right leg suddenly hurt like hell (I sit with my right leg supported by the left). I don't know what it is, but it sure is unpleasant. |

Years ago, Mario Party 1... My friends and I wanted to know what happened when you hit 100 (or was it 1000?) stars collected. Back then they had the mini-games that involved rotating the joystick around really fast. After an all-nighter we found out that nothing happened at that star total....we also found out what the color our palms could get after removing the skin from that damned joystick.
Give us some more time to come up with some wii-related injuries now. My shoulder still hurts from this weekend playing super monkey ball....friggin hammer throw!!!!! |

This one brought back memories for me, I was sitting at my desk with an old hand-me-down chair I had rescued from a dumpster at work (I was single, it made sense then.) I was in a group on EQ and was the group tank, we had just pulled several mobs onto our party and the wheels under the left side of my chair broke off (this was why it had been thrown away.) The chair lurched over, I slammed my head off the side of the desk and the wall and ended up with six stitches and a concussion. Does this count?
Long time reader, first time poster... and I must say, great work, keep it up. |

My chair has nice comfortable cloth padded arm rests but I have found with extremly extended use... it will grind the skin right off my elbow.

Think the last good injury I had was one of the many times I played WoW all night, my roomate turned out most the lights in the apartment and left me to my game induced trance. When I'd gotten up for some caffeine I inadvertantly tripped over a box that had been left out, sad part is I was the one who left the box out in my hurry to get online. Bashed up the foot pretty good and took some skin off....Bad box but I dinged 70 that night

Um.. yeah. I'm almost embarrassed to relate this story. A couple years ago, I was sitting at my computer, with my right foot tucked up under me. I think I might have been playing WoW, but I can't really remember now. All I know is that I got it into my head that I needed a drink from upstairs and needed to get back to my computer fairly quickly; maybe I was grouping or in an instance or something. So, I jumped up and tried to hurry upstairs.
What I didn't realize was that I'd been sitting on my foot for so long that it was completely numb, so when I went to take a step on it, it collasped, and I fell down pretty hard. I almost hit my head on the wall of the hallway that went to the stairs. My foot and ankle swelled up to gargantuan size, and I couldn't put any weight on it for several weeks. Turns out I'd re-fractured a tiny bone in my foot that I'd broken in a fall down some stairs in college, so I was on crutches for about 6 weeks. No driving, and navigating the 32 steps between our basement computer office and the bedroom was a nightmare. We lived in a three story townhouse at the time. I ended up spending a lot of time down in the basement, hording my drinks, because if I ran out, I had to wait until my husband got home to get more. Turns out you take a *lot* of things for granted when you have two working feet. You can't carry anything when you're on crutches, and we won't even talk about how painful stairs can be. Anyway, there you go. My gaming habit broke my foot. And I *still* sit on that foot all the time, though I'm a lot more careful about getting up these days. |
