It's a compliment... I think. (12/7)

I got an email last night from Steve Napierski, the artist/writer over at Dueling Analogs. I met Steve at this past ConnectiCon. Good guy. I'd invite him over to play Guitar Hero with me anyday.

Anyway, Steve's email was a link to a strip he'd produced for his site that addressed the question "What if Woody Hearn created Dueling Analogs". Steve them proceeded to draw his comic in my style.
Source: Dueling Analogs [ more info ]

For as much as I appreciate Steve's kind words, well wishes, and the tribute to my style, his take wasn't exactly Woody-esque. It was close, but felt more like a tracing of my work. You know... like when you're tracing something some of the line quality and finer detail become somewhat more ambiguous, slightly distorted. So, I felt the need to try my hand at the strip. So this is me drawing in my style a comic that was drawn in my style. Don't think about it too hard though, your brain could spin itself into a singularity or something. And, we don't want that. </faux indignation>

Seriously though, nothing personal there Steve. I think you did a fine job and I appreciate the effort to be sure. **grins**

You know, this actually has me thinking, which is dangerous at 7:15am, I don't know anyone that's forked over the money for a PS3 yet. I know several Wii owners and lots of XBox 360 owners, but no one that's willing to buy a PS3. I was out shopping with the spouse the other day and there wasn't a Wii or 360 to be found anywhere, but I did see several stores still had full shelves of PS3's, and not one store has had a working PS3 display...

Loved the strip, made me smile, then chuckle, then, like I said, I started thinking... keep it up!

I agree with the sentiment of this comic. The only really good press that I know of is that a scientist bought a bunch of them, linked them together and is using them to do some computer science stuff that he had been having to wait to get access to a supercomputer and pay higher prices for use of the supercomputer.

The chips just keep getting better.

Not to sound like a total uncouth peasant, but whats the big deal about the ps3, or the explanation on why they aren't selling?

I'm a ridiculously broke student, so I haven't bothered to look into any of the next gen consoles, I have no time to play them anyways, and even if I did; I'm still broke.

Wow....awesome comic Steve + Woody!

My sentiments exactly. :-)

:ahem: Although once Metal Gear comes out, my story may change a little :cough: cough:

I have a PS3 and use it every day to play Blu-Ray movies on my 110" screen as well as playing games. I am in the middle of Ratchet and Clank now. I just finished Uncharted (fantastic game, but I wish it was longer).

To be fair, just as many PS3s sold in its first year as did the Xbox 360 in its first year. Now, with the price drop, PS3s are selling fairly fast.

I know exactly zero people with PS3s, but I know lots of people with 360s and pretty much every gamer I know either has a Wii or is trying very hard to find one. Still. Over a year after launch.

I keep looking at the PS3, but as it stands, they need a lot more games that I can't get on my 360 and that I actually want to play. Otherwise, it's just not worth the money for me. Now if they had a Magic the Gathering versoin of Eye of Judgement, that would probably sell me.

The only reason to buy one, in my view, is if I wanted to play BluRay, which I don't, since $400 is a silly price to pay for an HD format when HD-DVD can be had for an entry price of 1/4th that and Sony's own top dogs have made statements showing a lack of faith in their own format.

Personally, I think they got cocky. PS2 was such a huge hit, that they assumed PS3 would sell "just because" and they could do any fool thing to it and not hurt it. Turns out, people actually do think beyond brand name.

Great comic, and I think it captures what the majority of gamers and indeed the public in general is thinking about the PS3.

It's crazy. Steve's looks like old school Woody art with new Woody coloring.

The only reason I'd get a PS3 over Wii or X360 is the blu-ray, but now that those have come way down I'm starting to wonder about even that.

PS3 I keep hear a shop owner say : "In Japan they sale more Xbox360 than PS3 and that's the first time the Japanese are buying American goods over Japanese's".

Being a bad MMORPG addict I don't really play anymore anything else but for Wii I heard someone say next Star wars game on it should be with some laser saber shaped controllers and the idea got some nice appeal, I wonder how many star wars addicts would buy a Wii because of it if that was to happen.

Nothing personal Woody, but whenever I see your artwork it reminds me of the Jimmy Newton Cartoon.

Maybe its the disproportionate head or the large cartoonish eyes; but honestly I don't know what brings Jimmy Newton into my head when looking at your work. Please don't take that as a insult, my son loves the show; and you are receiving commentary from a person whose artistry skills still remain at stick figures and smiley faces.
