Duke Nukem Forever gets a release date... wait no scratch that! (2/7)
Following an email discussion with 3D Realms president, Scott Miller, the Dallas Business Journal reported yesterday that 3D Realms had confirmed a late 2008 release date for the "highly anticipated" Duke Nukem Forever. 3D Realms' co-founder George Broussard then issued a statement rejecting the comments, explaining that the release date is still "when it's done".
Source: Kotaku [ more info ] Like the guy from Kotaku, Broussard's retraction rang a bit hollow to me. Unless I miss my guess, Miller forgot to tell the DBJ that the late 2008 release date info was an internal target and was in fact "off the record". It makes no difference really though. Even if the DNF was done, and 3D Realms was just waiting for the holidays to put the game on shelves, I wouldn't believe the projected release date. 3D Realms has managed to get our hopes up more than once. Development on the game is approaching it's 12th year now and I still haven't seen enough to convince me that this release date announcement slip isn't just more of the same. Is it cynical of me not to believe the game is going to be released until I'm actually installing it on my computer? Nah! Let's just call it being prudent. |

I have this ugly sinking feeling that even if DNF is released, it's going to be Daikatana 2.0. In other words, terrible.

12 Years developing a game is getting a touch silly. You can almost see the Dev's at work..... design game engine / new graphic hardware released / redesign game engine / new graphics software released / redesign game engine / go for a coffee / redesign game engine.
Now all we need is DNF to have a section where Duke has to shoot flying pigs ..... unless that delays the launch for it to be coded ![]() |

yeah, the game most likely will be under expectations of what everyone is wanting. Especially after a 12 year wait...*cough* or more *cough* But hopefully they will still get it right enough to not be just a cookie cutter of previous DNs or other games out there. All I know, is that if the release date does hit this holiday season, I'm going out and buying my rubber pancho now, cause I'll be danged if I'm letting a pig fly over me with out one.

Funny comic--though I might be a bit easier on defining "released". I would be willing to settle for copies on the shelves.
And is one of those pigs from the NC? :-D |

I'm starting to think the DNF pig(s) deserve a Tshirt.

When you're installing it? Hell...I'm not going to believe it until I'm actually playing the silly thing. At this point, I wouldn't put it past 3D Realms to ship a 'game' that is nothing more than a ploy to get you to install it, and a Rick Springfield video pops up and plays over and over again for twenty hours, followed by a brief message saying "You'll have the real product 'When it's done'".
