I really don't like sweeping generalizations. (2/14)

After I got most of the gear I wanted out of doing PvP, I pretty much stopped going in. Not because I don't like to lose or it's boring or anything like that, but because (and I may have said this before) the incessant whining drives me nuts. Usually I'd just turn off battleground chat, but I don't like the idea of missing an honest call for help, shouts of "incoming", folks telling where they're going to push next, etc.

Usually the whining is based on all-inclusive criticism of every battleground the whiner has been in that day. The sum of his/her frustration is then heaped onto the entire battleground group whether they deserve it or not. If there is an amusing aspect to the blubbering, its that "usually" the very things the person is complaining about are NOT infractions that the current group is committing. OR, the comments are being made by someone not currently in the area of the perceived infraction. That is to say I've often been defending a bunker that I helped capture just to see someone scream out that "no one stays to defend the bunkers they take". Or someone on defense will tell the battle group that "offense needs to just rush across the bridge" when I (being on offense) have tried to rush across the bridge just to be trapped, debuffed, and obliterated by about 15 Alliance because the bridge is a wonderful choke point for such a tactic. Had the person on defense been there, they likely would not have done much better.

And, as I know I've mentioned before... one of my other favorite situations is to see that one little yellow dot move to and capture Snowfall Graveyard only to complain moments later about Offense having not captured Stormpike Graveyard yet. In case you're not in the know and missed my last post about it, this means that every Alliance member that dies above IB choke spawns right in front of the offensive push, usually AT Stormpike Graveyard.

Anyway to touch briefly on the title of this writeup...
I just can't respect sweeping generalizations. Words like "no one", "ever", and "never" are rarely accurate. And slapping descriptors on an entire group of people because a couple of people aren't doing what they're supposed to just isn't fair. Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely that this realization will "sink in" for a person who's given to screaming out criticisms in a video game chat channel.

And as for the comic... it's almost word for what someone said in an AV yesterday. I Was defending Icewing Bunker at the time.

I've done AV on horde, I've done AV on alliance, frankly Alliance has it tougher than horde IF horde plays active defense.

3 groups on Defense(starting at iceblood gy)= Horde win-period

UNLESS alliance plays excellent Defense starting at snowfall- and even then it'll be close with the horde winning most of the time (at least in my experience).

for the record AV is my favorite Battleground. AB is second.

I like the IB choke strategy if when we lose it, Horde drops all the way back to our base. Stopping to try to save Frostwolf Graveyard is highly ineffective. Unlike Stormpike, there is a LOT of room to run around FWGY defenders.

In most of the AVs I've been in Horde seem to rarely have more than 10 people on defense unless Alliance capture the IB choke before we get Stonehearth Graveyard. Because then when we die below Stonehearth we end up at Frostwolf Graveyard and can't seem to break through the IB choke.

PvP in general (Sweeping Generalization!!!! XD ) makes me a sad panda. I can only really enjoy it when I am grouped with friends. Doesn't even have to be full BG of them, just a few. At least then we can move as a coheasive force and when we see funny or irritating things we can point them out to each other and mock them.

You don't have to run into all the faults people love to scream in chat, but going solo, with no one to be miserable with, can be lonely company indeed when you are stuck in an untenable situation and frustration mounts. I try for constructive critisim in chat meself, try and motivate and direct people, but I'm usually drowned out by all caps whining and people claiming more experience at BGs than me.

Oh well, still get points fer epix!

I've never been to a high lvl bg before and the low lvl bgs suck... but my intuition would say to gather up a raid group of people you have played with before that you like and do premades. especially if you can find a good leader, or find good followers to follow you. when i finally hit lvl 70 ima make my own guild just for that purpose.

I don't think you can queue up as a group for AV. I know it was removed, but I'm not sure if it was reimplemented.

We used to use a macro that'd queue every one at the same time, and we mostly got into games together. If we didn't, we'd use a nasty little trick to make room in the BG instance. We'd have one of our mages make a portal to UC and then spam "Help us summon!" until people started clicking the portal. They'd zone out, get the deserter buff, and our friends would get in.

Can't really understand how people fell for that. First, it's a mage portal. Second, every one is still standing behind the gate - why would any one need a summon. And third, people should learn not to trust strangers on the interweb. I use those reasons to rationalize our behaviour. Even though deep down it's a pretty shady move. (though endlessly entertaining)

Funny you should mention Horde whining ... Alliance in the Bloodlust battlegroup are actively boycotting AV because they lose so often and feel Blizzard should take responsibility and fix it (which patch 2.4 claims to do, moving the Horde start point back, although I'm not sure how effective that change is going to be...). At it's worst, the queue times for AV were over 2 hours for horde, although they've been steadily getting better as more alliance scabs are AVing anyways (I assume); queue times are now down to 45 minutes for horde. Near instant for Alliance.

That said, people still find ways to complain, even when we're winning 500/200, they still gripe and moan about no defense, and no heals, albeit not as much as other battlegroups (there's normally only 1 or 2 complainers per AV, and you can just spam report them and live blissfully unaware of their presence for the rest of the battleground)

StinkyQueue works for letting a whole raid enter AV still. Its hard enough to get folks to work together then you see an entire team from the same server and morale just drops below the floor.

I try to do like you Woody and either blow off the comments or pipe something back. Personally I find I have to go for a while with no pvp so I dont get to jaded with the folks playing there.

I have a horde toon on a pvp server and an ally on a pve. In my experience both sides will have bad games and there will be the same type of whiners on each side. But I have had better luck on my horde guy with random groups really working well together. I know its not side specific, so just appreciate those moments when you get them.

I personally enjoy the comments of "no one ever heals" (to support your point about "no one"), then the game ends, and [usually] I'm at least double or more of what the 2nd place person did on Healing Done (for anyone who looks at those, of course).

However, I've come to the realization that those wanting heals, typically seem to be out in the middle of nowhere for no particular and/or valid reason, too.

My battlegroup, Stormstrike, still has the 2 hour doom queues for AV Hordeside. I have both Horde and Alliance on that BG, and playing AV as the Alliance there is like being in a train wreck in slow motion. I am really am glad about them moving the Horde tunnel back towards Drek. It is a good step.

As for the people in Battlegrounds chat, I know exactly what you mean... because I have been one of them. PvP gets me frustrated in ways I never otherwise get, and after a few games I will often find myself taking it out in BG chat (though I tend to do so more intelligently than some).

The problem, it least for me, is that I don't really LIKE PvP. But I do love the gear. So I play to win, which is bad bad bad. 'Cause when we don't, I let myself get all frustrated over it. These days I force myself to do it less so I don't get so wound up, heheh.
