For those of you that care, Mario Kart for the Wii is soon to be released (in the States). Included in the package will be a little white, faux-steering wheel dock that will presumably make steering a wii-mote feel a bit more car-driving-esque. The problem is that if your friends want to play with you, want their own wii-wheels but don't own Mario Kart Wii... they'll have to buy the wii-wheel seperate for $14.99. The guys over at 1Up have decided that price isn't exactly cost effective and have challenged their community to generate their own cutom wii-wheels.

As I was reading the article I asked that all important question "What Would Ted Do?" The answer is simple, he'd go so far over the top that the idea of what he was doing would be completely lost. But, at the same time, the answer would be pretty freakin' cool from a very hardcore gamer perspective.

On a side note, this was the first strip to be streamed live while I worked. Hawk from Applegeeks stopped in. And a few people from GU and AG dropped in to watch me toil. A few even stuck around after to ask questions. All in all it was enjoyable. I intend to make a habit of it.

The live feed will be available here: http://www.gucomics.com/live/
I will be using Twitter to announce when the feed goes live:

I've been playing it for a week now. A friend of mine even 2 weeks. You're not telling me this game was released in Europe earlier right?

It was pretty cool getting to watch you in action last night.

The wheel works very well, and I'd always choose it over the GC controller.
Hope you guys can enjoy it soon!

*Cough, unlike we do with brawl, cough*

I just hope that the wheel isn't required for some functionality or control mechanism in the game, that could have been just as easily implimented without it. Nintendo has a nasty habit of taking a great multi-player games and designing them to require you to buy or already have extra hardware (on top of the extra controllers) to enjoy it fully. See - Zelda: Four Swords....four game boy advances, and four $15 link cables to actually be able to play the game with Four (as in the name of the silly game) Swords.

I was interested in watching you work (fan for a couple years now), but every time I popped in, it was just chatting on an intellectual level far above my own >.>
Here's hoping for better luck watching it the next time.

I actually don't mind bonus content that can be unlocked by owning other games by the same developer/publisher/what have you. Because...it's bonus content. My issue is with significant portions of the game being limited to those have have purchased the required extra hardware, when they could have designed the game to not require said hardware without decreasing the fun factor or playability. :-)

Evilshawn, you can get it. But you need to do hellofalot more.

Oh, and the wheel is just something to help you hold the wiimote, and/or get the feeling you're in the game.. more.
It's not required.
