That's small town vernacular for "Civic Center" (10/27)
In the face of the "real" E3's return [more info], IDG has stated that E for All will not return in 2009. IDG will instead shift their focus back to E3. Source: 1up.Com [ more info ]
Just like the comic, I've not been to either of the E for All expos. But when has that ever stopped me from taking jabs at the event? In any case, I'll accept the reason IDG gave for why they're bowing out of the race rather than roll my eyes and dismiss it as a timely excuse. E for All was basically designed to take over where E3 left off and let in the public in to boot. Thing is, PAX had already kinda been doing that for three years. E3's downsizing just opened the door for more corporate foothold in Penny Arcade's community-centric event. E for All never managed to capitalize on E3's relative absense. So what am I saying with the comic? Well I grew up in a small town called Chester, SC. Population: 6000. The "Old Armory" was a big empty building used for large community events. But even the Old Armory's biggest events wouldn't bring the entire town in. Read that however you like. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Bluetooth Headset guy is wearing "The Great Escape" shirt and Big Diamond Earrings guy is wearing an "Eat Shirt and Die" shirt both from Threadless.Com. |

Nice comic woody. I did hear (mainly from here) that the E for All event was a lil bit dire. Good riddance i say, it may have had its good points but E3 is where its at and thank the gods its back.

I think they made a movie about your small town Woody, "Footloose". Did Kevin Bacon portray you in the movie?

They didn't make a movie about Chester, but they did make a tv-miniseries IN Chester. It's called "Chiefs". [more info]
At the town's center is a large hill. The production company swooped in, slapped a facade on some of the buildings, revitalized others, covered the roads in dirt and hay. It was extraordinary. They let we locales walk around the set because it was so complete we couldn't really screw it up. |

I don't get the article about the "Real" E3's return. It looks like it still a non-public show.

E3 , well before that recent change, was an over the top expo for in-house game companys to show off the latest in gaming tech to all gaming related companies. it was often louder, brighter and more crowded than Las Vegas, madness for a weekend. The last few years E3 had turned away from the crazy money, ceiling high displays and neon lights for a more drab, conventional Expo format. no one liked it, hence the IDG's try at E for everyone which was supposed to in theory bring back the madness that was E3 and open to tbe public, but fail on all counts.
yes both versions of E3 were never open to the public. But that never really stopped anyone willing to try and get in, I got in with some help, my friend simply bought his way in with his sorta computer fixing company, which seem to show up overnight...think of it like SEMA, thats not open to the public either, and it has crazy money thrown at it in the form of those specialty cars |

Like Jep'ray was saying E3 was never public, so why would the return of the "real" E3 make it a public event?
