I'm sure she doesn't really mean it. (12/1)

The Kid loves watching me play World of Warcraft. Which lead me to think about playing WoW with family members. So without a good idea for the comic I asked myself some whatifs. Initiallly the idea was that, having not seen him for a few days, I finally bump into a haggard Ted. My assumption that he had gone to spend the holidays with his parents failing in the revelation that he'd been in his room hitting the level cap. But the "uber" that is Ted means he would have hit 80 a day or two after the expansion dropped leaving me to ponder the origins of Ted's uberness. I decided it was his mom.

Whew that was a mash of marginally cogent text. Well that's what happens in my brain when I can't find something to make a comic out of. **shrugs**

Any of you play any particular games with your family members?

I would love to play WoW with Mom..but I'm pretty sure she would never grasp it considering she has a hard time with the computer now. I'm really the only gamer in the family. Well..actually..now that I think about it..I did find out one of my sisters play WoW just on another server.

My mom loves Rock Band, and we usually (sometimes against his will) drag my brother into playing bass. =)

I got my mom into playing. She lives 7 hours away so it gives us a chance to hang out together. Unfortunately, she got hooked on alliance (/cry) so I ended up having to lvl a few alliance 70s (well, 1 is 80) to play with her. Makes for some interesting vent convos:

"Hey, we actualyl do have 2 ladies in the guild, you two sound kinda the same, sisters? Twins?"
"She's my momma!/She's my baby girl"
"Oh cool. Wait... what?"
lol

husband also plays, and the 5 year old son is getting obsessed with the game too, he has a lvl 1 rogue that chases wolves around in the starter area >.<

My brother and I played together a lot through Everquest until about Summer of 2007 when he got really busy with work and I kind of lost interest in Everquest. Then we got WOW and we were back together again through the winter but he once again got busy over the summer.

No one else in my family I know plays either EQ or WOW so it's mostly just my brother.

Lets see. I play with my husband and son. We have three computers in the same room and are all in the same guild. My husband's two uncles and two cousins play as well. One on our server, and the rest are on the server we were on before. We also have four best friends that play. Its pretty neat to have family play. Its a great way for us to keep in touch since they live all over the country.

I think the most fun is that now that my son is 13, I get to play more WITH him, then just watching him to make sure he doesn't do anything stupid. I started him out on everquest when he was like four doing fishing for me ;p It kept him quiet near me when I was studying for college. I was also teaching him the things he was allowed and not allowed to do in these kinds of games. Things like not saying his age, or name, or where he lives. Also taught him mmorpg manners, like no killstealing ;p

I think the thing about these games that drives me nuts the most, is when I find a kid that got one of these mmorpg's for a present from his parents. The parents then let him play without any instruction, without watching him, and they let the kid have his computer in his room with his password. Then they get surprised that their 12 year old is playing it at 3am, and telling everyone who he is and where he lives. Mmorpgs can be a great source for parents. They can teach the child the safe way to play or chat online. They can teach the child sharing, cooperation, planning, and how to lead or follow. There are so many things a person can learn from these games, although the most important lesson is....moderation ;p

Our 6 year old has characters made on our accounts for every game we play (except AoC, we wouldnt let him play that one lol) His favorites are SWG, WoW, & EQ2, he especially enjoys following around my husbands toons cackling and yelling "I see you dad!" and doing assorted emotes.

Our 8 year old messed around with a couple of them but would rather play the Mars mission Lego games at Lego.com heh...
