Because apparently he's Spiderman. (12/18)
In a 6 page page interview with Crispy Gamer, Gears of War creator Cliff Bleszinski let it be know that when it comes to name recognition amongst game creators, "with great power comes great responsibility".
Source: Crispy Gamer [ more info ] After rolling my eyes, closing the tab, and promptly vowing to make a comic about the whole thing, I remembered... I don't actually have anything against CliffyB. I was entirely influenced by the subtitle of the piece and thus blame the entirety of my ire on wanton sheepitude. See apparently despite wishing Bleszinski would "shut the f*** up during E3" the interviewer conducted a 6 page interview with the man and decided he had "some insights worth hearing". I'm suddenly embarassed that I didn't burn anyone for unintentional irony. Ah well, this was just an excuse to get Santa back into the comic anyway. P.S. I didn't see much insight, just a lot of predictable responses to typical questions. But, I'm jaded and riddled with sheepitude. |

I don't know. I think CliffyB does have valuable insight, but nothing any more important than any other well known dev might have to say, so I'd say your swelled head comment is right on the money.

The guy made GoW... and off course GoW 2... until I read this I didnt even know his name and may forget it tomorow.
The guy is not close to a Hideo Kojima or Shigeru Miyamoto, not even a John D. Carmack. I'm not saying the guy is bad, but he is far from being a member of The Legends |

He joined EPIC at 17 and made Jazz Jackrabbit, then made Unreal and Unreal Tournament. Those are the ones that made him famous. GoW? pfft...

The coolest thing that I got out of that article was stumbling upon the Terry Tate "Office Linebacker" commercials. I somehow missed those.

While I will admit I have never played GoW in it's entirety I found what bit of story I was given to be rather dull. Any difficulty below insane or whatever it's called is a cakewalk. In the end I can't say I'm a big fan of GoW. The only thing that I did find that was freaking amazing was the lancer. I mean a gun with a chain-saw = pure genius.

All I can say about name recognition is that until recently I thought of Call of Duty whenever I heard Gears of War. So if by responsbility they mean an ability to distinguish one's own name from the names of other vaguely similar and far more established names, I agree.
