Yeah, I stopped listening. (1/6)
Viking Punter and avid gamer Chris Kluwe joked about changing his name to Chris "World of Warcraft" Kluwe after Bengals receiver Chad Johnson temporarily changed his name to Ocho Cinco. Kluwe is easily the best punter in team history and has no qualms about professing his love of video games. He even admits to only kicking for 45 minutes per day while playing video games 5 to 6 hours per day.
Source: Kotaku [ more info ] You know, I appreciate it when pro athletes embrace video games. And you have to admit, even thought it's a joke, it's a good idea. If this guy changed his last name to Warcraft his Jersey's would fly off the shelves. I'm pretty sure he'd be the ONLY punter in NFL history to have successful Jersey sales. Or, you know, ANY Jersey sales. ____________________ Today's Pimpage: Ted is wearing an "I Told You Not To Play With Matches" shirt from Threadless.Com. |

not sure if you saw it or not but the NFL would not let Chad Johnson put "Ocho Cinco" on the back of his jersey. it was because they had a large inventory of jerseys that still said Johnson and he was contractually obligated to keep his name as Johnson, untill the jerseys sold out...
in regards to the punter, i doubt there would be a problem with an overstock, or any stock, for a kickers jersey so he might just be able to get away with it. btw that was a good comic, at least it made me laugh ![]() |

Yes. I saw. So he made the velcro tearaway patches. Well, at least for one week he did. So he came out of the tunnel as Ocho Cinco (which I think is damn dumb) and had his teammates tear the patch away to reveal "Chad Johnson".

The only reason they wouldn't let him change it is because the NFL had already contracted 100,000 Chad Johnson jersey's and had them in stock. They told him he could change his jersey name, but would have to buy out the entire stock which would have been about $4 million dollars. Now a player who had very limited stock on their Jersey probally wouldn't have as much problem.
I'm sure after the 100,000 Chad Johnson jersey's are sold, then the NFL will probally let him change the name on his |

I love this story, I am actually from Minnesota and this all started on a morning radio show. They have sports figures from local teams come into the studio. Kluwe came in one time and it came out that he is a HUGE WoW gamer. He even mentioned that when he played in Seattle last year members of his guild came out to the game to cheer him on. I laugh every time he tries to explain the intricacy's of the game to the hard rock luvin' radio hosts.
Great story, keep up the great work! |

Man, I have so many responses for this it's not funny. I watched the Vikings play all this season, which is hard to miss since I live in Vikings territory, and the worst performance from Kluwe was the New Orleans game when he was told NOT to punt to returner Reggie Bush and what does he do? PUNTS RIGHT TO HIM! Sorry Woody, but that ruined all crediblity as a good punter right there. Another thing would be to see him on a WoW commercial..."Hi I'm Chris Kluwe....and I'm a Gnome punter".
