Holy Crap! My bias slip is showing. (1/12)
In an interview with a newspaper from his home town of Great Falls Montana, Neversoft President, Joel Jewet, spoke about his lingering connections to the state, the town's impact on his work ethic, and the fact that his company would be letting the successful Tony Hawk series of games go to another developer. Neversoft will presumably be focussing on adding titles to the Guitar Hero franchise. Including Guitar Hero: Metallica which is slated for release later this quarter.
Source: Great Falls Tribune [ more info ] You know, I can't pinpoint when the luster of Guitar Hero started to fade for me. I remember it being shaky before Rocks the 80's hit. Then Rt80s was absolute crap. (opinion) I held on for Guitar Hero III. But with the shift to Neversoft as the developer, the characters got transformed into silly putty blobs and I was done. So yeah, this comic is a bit negative. And if Mr. Jewet emails me I'll apologize for being mean. But, I won't apologize for being critical his company's handling of Guitar Hero. If you guys disagree... that's completely cool. Feel free to express your love for the Neversoft headed GH titles. There's nothing wrong with supporting a game company that made a game you dig! Please Note: I did NOT make up that mustache or the camo hat. But, I did put a Neversoft logo on there to make it more relevant. |

To be honest I never really saw the appeal to Guitar Hero, especiallly after the first one not like they can change it up a whole lot.

Well, I can tell you honestly, having played all most all of the releases now, they're not alike. Within the plastic guitar genre, GH3 is not like GH and Rock Band is better than them all. (opinion)

Just like the Zapper.... you bring a good point about "where GH faded for you"
We need a "Jump the Shark" website for video games that have multitude of sequels... |

I can't bash on guitar hero myself. It led me to pick up a real bass guitar and learn it. At first i wanted to learn guitar, but after playing with 1 for a while i decided that bass guitar was more my style.
After learning a real guitar, playing with the Fisher Price Super Rock Star Guitar that comes packed with every guitar hero game feels kinda silly. |

I started playing the GH series at GH3 and really liked it.
My friends got GH:Aerosmith and I was really disappointed with it. Metallica looks the same with songs that most people have never heard of and really not the best ones. We got GH:World Tour for Christmas and I loved the idea of drums and then was a bit disappointed (typing that word a lot today) with the amount of "One hand" drumming. (red, orange, red, orange, red, orange, red orange, nothing to do with the actual drum line) Then we brought Rock Band 2.... Totally blown away by the difference. A game that is large, with good songs, downloadable content that makes sense, actual character generation and customisation. And best of all for me... you actually feel like the drums are doing something. Didn't mean this post to be a RB2 plug, it just kinda turned out that way. |

I think the whole franchise got better when the whole band aspect came around (GH and RB). I always felt kinda dumb sitting in my dorm room playing a plastic guitar by myself, and I definitely wouldn't be seen rocking out with it, but when there are four people playing plastic instruments, I find it to be a lot more entertaining and less about skill... I think the games have gotten better (except for GH Aerosmith)

Ahh, Guitar Hero...
After moving to Texas and losing pretty much all my games, I missed the releases of Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band - now, I'm a bit better off and with a 360.. I went out and got myself... Guitar Hero 2. ...again. I researched it a lot online, and it really looks like Neversoft isn't holding the series up to the standards I would have liked.. Now, if I get myself a bit more scratch, I figure the best thing I can purchase in this so-called "plastic guitar genre" would be Rock Band 2. But for now, let me try again to get the buckethead achievement. One of these days... ![]() |
