One of the achievements tossed into WoW with Wrath of the Lich King is a coin collection time burner that tasks you with collecting far too many copper, silver, and gold coins by fishing them out of a fountain in Dalaran. Now, depending on what time of day you go, there could be one other person casting with you, or a fishing rod weilding army.

That's what it was like when I got my gold coin achievement last night. There were people shoulder to shoulder around the tiny, coin-laden elipse. There was even the obligatory DK, tossing his damn gate in the middle of the pool and summoning an undead army to run over the top of the water making it difficult to see our bobbers. Asshat.

One thing to note, where it's hard enough to fish up the coins you need, most of the time you end up reeling in a fountain goldfish. I pulled in literally hundreds of the things in my quest to attain a stupid coin you can flip once every 10 seconds. It took me so long to fish up the last gold coin I figured the fountain goldfish were plotting against me. Thus the comic.

They're not mobs. You can't target, or even SEE them in the fountain. They are just loot items. So how do I qualify this comic... the object's perspective?

Well random loot doesn't do much, so why not let them talk once in a while?

I haven't spent much time looking at the achievements, so I wondered why I always saw people around that fountain fishing. Guess since I hit 80 this weekend I'll have to start looking at all the stuff I can earn to fend off that elite boss called Boredom.

And speaking of the goldfish... what would hundreds of them say all jammed into your pack? And would you put the goldfish in the same pack that has your nightcrawlers and expect the bait to be there in the morning?

You need a 10 year old daughter (lucky like mine)

For example :-

Sewer Rat - I spent 2hrs plus one night fishing for it...no rat
Sewer Rat - She spent 15 min (if that) caught me the rat

Coin Achievement - I spent the best part of the day
Coin Achievement - She spent the best part of 1 hour

It is very upsetting that my 10 year old daughter 'snorts' with disgust at my BG key mashing and asks me to leave when tell her 'look out for' or to 'click that'.

Well I finished the coin and the rat also got Old Iron Jaw and the otherone (forgot the name) and my wife is still short 5 coins and both fish and hasnt even gone after the rat so you can amagine the name calling that went on in my house 8) (all in good fun)

both fish >600 casts
all the coins Aprox 6 hours
and the rat 10 casts

I got pretty lucky too, but I did witness a night elf pull the fish out of Orgrimmar and about 5 casts later get the 25 fish achievment I think that has to be a record or something.............about 150 casts l8r I got mine 8) oh well

LOL I always find it funny going past that fountain and seeing that. I fish it during the day and it's usually just me. I like to read the wishes on the coins, very interesting.

I'm trying to fish up that giant rat in the underbelly too! Haven't seen him yet.

I think they're trying to drive us achievement junkies over the edge with the addition of 75 companions. Argh! I now have factions I didn't care about just for a pet. I thought I was good at 51. LOL

Ok, I admit, I have never played WoW (or any other Blizzard game for that matter) and my only adventure into MMOs was The Matrix Online, so um, what does DK mean? >_> Still I like the idea of goldfish plotting against people, I'm sure that's what the ones downstairs do when we leave the room.

I'm the same way with the stupid pets. I'm at 52, and there is literally no mundane noncombat pets left that I don't have, and some of the rares. I already have peddlefeet, the squashling, all the christmas pets, one of the dragon whelps, and a bunch of the faction ones. Now I'm going to have to spend the better part of every day farming the other stupid whelps, the firefly etc.

I did do this coin achievement in one day though. Took about 4 hours. I fished for the stupid rat in underbelly for well over a week before he finally turned up. I need to work on getting Mr. Pinchy but haven't bothered just yet. I did manage to get the Dark Herring rare fish kind of by accident while I was fishing for pygmy sucker fish in Howling Fjord. Since I'm a priest, I made a rogue friend of mine very happy when I gave him a wrapped up fish as a present lol. "Herring seeks your life"

Re the obligatory DK: you people with the huge mounts? Stop standing on the mailbox and banker pretty pretty please. With sugar on top. And the possibility of me lowering my auction prices a hair, out of sheer gratitude.

I really need to start leveling my fishing skill. I can be a bit of a completionist when it comes to games, but I've always been really lazy about getting my Cooking/Fishing up on any of my toons.

Awesome 'Loot Perspective' Comic?

Haven't seen a DK pulling that stoopid zombie-pet trick in the fountain...

My personal favorate for 'clever and special' is when some fliers engaged in "corpse drop" (as opposed to a "corpse run") on the fountain. Start outside of the city and fly in, then click off your mount and try to fall into the fountain. Bonus points if you completely cover the fountain with your bones.
