It's the question that matters. (2/6)

Why isn't Blizzard going to be at E3?

Activision Blizzard backed out of last years trimmed down E3. And now that E3 is returning to it's "bigger, better" roots, Activision is back on the list. Blizzard Entertainment, however, has decided not to participate.

Sure there's BlizzCon. Sure they'll probably have their own offsite event. But why not come back to the event itself? Are they tired of fighting NCSoft for "loudest booth" honors? I just don't know. And quite frankly they don't need GU anymore so they don't talk to me or answer emails like they used to.

Ahhhh waning relevance, how I loathe thee.
(Please don't respond to that, it's a joke.)

Well, if it's any consolation, I am jealous of the fact that you can draw and I cannot!

I have not been to an E3 in a couple years =( My desire for gaming is at an all time low.

I'm sorry to say it Woody, but you have to face the reality like the rest of us.

Blizzard have become too big and too self [insert random negative word here] to care about public relations and custommers.

For an example, there have been major lag on wow (europe, dunno about US) the last coupple of months, especially in raid instances (tones down later in the evening though). Now, the lag outside instances was due to the new Wintergrasp PvP area, but Wintergrasp shouldn't affect instances as instances are on a different server than Wintergrasp (which is on the main server).

So, basically, Blizzard seems to have a server capacity problem but they simply deny it. They are giving statements such as "we are working to solve the problem, and the sollution should come in next patch". Nevertheless, they fail to do so (last patch changed nothing). That said, the server lag have become more manageable the last coupple of weeks, but that's mostly due to guilds that have stopped raiding

That said, I actually think that Blizzard is delivering worse service than the puplic hospitals here in Denmark that, after 7 months, still have failed to find time to just look at my knee (got a knee damage after getting a tad too drunk 10 monts ago ><).

Call me cynical but I would guess they may not be attending because the projects they are currently working on have not made any significant developments, If that were the case I could see them not wanting to seem like they have stalled on any highly anticipated games. By the way Woody your relevance isn't fading, Blizzard may not currently think you invaluable, however as new games come into the mainstream they are going to want you to promote those new games to your reader base, even though we know ted is morally ambiguous, you tend to be very solid on the advice you offer. So at some point I'm sure the tables will turn for you.

Was wondering about the mystery lag, I could not understand why years of smooth sailing came to a halt. Just flying from Dalaran to anywhere causes the screen to jerk, 10 second game freezes as it's switching zones.

I have never been to an E3, was invited once many years ago by fellow board moderators, but I shrugged my shoulders as what ever I can see at E3 will end up coming to the SD comic-con in full force (complete with NCsoft megaphone wielding employees / reps)

Are we sure they're not going to be represented at the Activision booth?

To be honest, I think a lot of companies are not going to look at E3 like they used to. I havent been to an E3 since they changed the whole format, and for me it was cool because I was able to see a lot of my old friends. Also with the recent layoffs in the industry, a lot of folks are not making any big effort to go this year.

Well, that's strange. I was at E3 last year and it sucked. But, what I'm thinking is Blizzard is putting a lot of work into Diablo 3, or Starcraft 2. Personally, I hope they put it in Starcraft. But I could understand Blizzard not wanting to go to E3. They probably don't care about another convention, and they want to show their games in Blizzcon.
